yeah, most of you probably weighed these heavy contenders from the 16bit days of squaresoft glory..but which is in fact the most liked of the two? i'll flick a few stats out from each:
FF6 Pros:
larger playable cast
more memoriable final boss
better plot twists (in my opinon)
larger overall locations
CT Pros:
animated enemies/heroes
more replay value (including the endings)
sharper graphics
interactive characters in battle (umaro kicking people doesn't count)
more minigames
i can't remember all that i was going to add. please post any additions or complaints.

Both are great, but Chrono Trigger takes the best of Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior and combines them.

That is an really hard poll, i mean I have no idea,
but I leaned towards chrono trigger but I still don't know they are both great games, and I love them both
easily two of my favorite games of all time.

No contest; Final Fantasy 3 simply blows Chrono Trigger out of the water. I mean.. I love both games and hold them in the highest regards as some of the greatest RPGs ever made.. But Final Fantasy 3. That game is without a doubt the RPG. It simply has everything go going for it: Story, Gameplay, Music, ect.. it's the best.

I can't decide. They're both too good.
Graphics:
CT
Music:
CT
Character Depth:
FF6
Story:
Draw-both are cliche (not knocking them, of course)
Replay:
CT
So to me, Chrono Trigger wins on paper, but....the Opera House, the Ghost Train, Shadow's dreams....man, FF3 is so good...

FFIII. I never really got into Chrono Trigger, it didn't have that something (whatever it is that keeps a person coming back) that maintained my interest for too long. FFIII had that something.
FFIII.

Final Fantasy III for me without a doubt. I love all of the characters in the game. They're all so much more memorable to me and much more interesting. I loved the villan in ffiii as well unlike CT's which was kinda crap if you ask me. I love CT to death, but FFIII wins my vote.

FF3 was better. CT was missing something but was also a great game. I played CT once but FF3 at least 4 times way back when. FF3 had a better story.

Chrono. This is in spite of the fact I don't believe in real life time travel. Too crazy for me.

This is such a hard decision...both are, as people have already said, such amazing, amazing games.
My vote goes to Chrono Trigger, by a hair. With two games so rich in epic storytelling and great moments, I think CT does those things just a bit better.

Yes, one from the hardest Polls I ever see. I played both games and loved both games much. Chrono Trigger has 10 different endings, which I have play all at last one time.
But I think I must vote for Final Fantasy III, because its from my favourites game series ever. I have begin with Final Fantasy as first RPG I think.
But its near the same with Chrono Trigger, so hard voteing for me.

That’s interesting. I voted FFVI (III) without hesitation. For some reason I really never like the engine Square used in either Secret of Mana or Chrono trigger. I found them both annoying at times. Sure, I played both (Secret of Mana in more detail) but for me, nothing beats Final fantasy III. The depth, the polished graphics, the music, the story, it’s all there and in abundance.

Final Fantasy VI has Locke Cole. Final Fantasy VI wins.
Okay, besides that the soundtrack is probably the greatest work of music EVER (not just in a video game), there's PLENTY more to do in FFVI (don't let Chrono's multiple endings fool you into thinking there's more meat to that game.. cool as that aspect is), not to mention the protagonist in FFVI is a central part of the game as opposed to being merely mentioned in CT.
I love Chrono Trigger.. LOVE it, but this is a non-contest in my opinion.

I voted for Chrono Trigger. I am usually not a RPG fan and I can't stand ANY Final Fantasy game but something about Chrono Trigger pulled me in and is one of my favorite games. :)

As a genre, I don't care for RPG's, so you'd think my vote would go to Chrono Trigger with its active battling and better controls. But it doesn't. FFVI's unforgettable music tipped the scale.
Oh yeah, this is a good question, by the way.

Chrono Trigger is one of the best (and hardest... for me) RPG's ever made... Final Fantasy 6 doesn't stand a chance against it.

CT ripped off my idea for an RPG (though time travel has always been a cliche, I wanted to make the first time travelling RPG made for Square, of course that could never happen) and I still haven't gotten over it to this day (though I love the game's soundtrack and graphics - I even played through the game a few times).
I loved everything about FF6, so it gets my vote.

Hmm. Can I say that CT is less intimidating?

Saga III aka Final Fantasy Legend III was Square's first time travel RPG, released about 90-91.. a few years before Chrono Trigger.

As much as I love both games, the depth of the battle system with FFVI along with the wonderful soundtrack and storyline make it a no brainer for me. Even though these two games are easily in my top 5 favorite RPGs ever, I have to put FFVI ahead.

Let me put it this way. When I finished FFVI I was like, "okay, that was great, now I can finally play FFVII", (I have a thing about playing things in order.) and that's what I did.
When I finished Chrono Trigger I said, "hey, look - New Game+" and I played it again and again and again.
Love 'em both, but obviously love Chrono Trigger more.

These are both my favorite rpg's ever so i'm a fan of both of them. However, I prefer Chrono Trigger. For the most part it was an improvement on FF6. Better graphics, better battle system and more replay value. I'm not sure about the music. They both have excellent soundtracks.

CT is the only RPG soundtrack I own. It is the best music I've ever heard in a video game.

RPG's were always hard for me to get into UNTIL I ran into Chrono Trigger and Earthbound. I can't remember the amount of times I've tried to start FFVI only to restart again weeks later. Its awesome and definitely epic, but I couldn't get into it like I could Chrono Trigger. Now having said this, I MUST give FFVI a chance and WILL do so. I can't wait, because I know it's an RPG that is loved by many.
