Which HOTD is your favorite?

HOTD - The first time you saw the dead walking and could not believe your eyes. Then you got the gun and began shooting.

HOTD 2 - The second time you saw more dead people walking, but with better graphics, but sucky voice acting.

HOTD 3 - Even better graphics, but on Xbox.

HOTD 4 - Can't wait. I know this one will be my favorite?

Graphicly, 4 looks like a major step back... but I guess it's still early, but youd also think these games would evolve beyond the need to use the exact same model for every zombie on screen

Anyways, the first is still my favorite, folowed by the third, and second.

Typing of the Dead is my favorite in the series! It not only has the great graphics from HotD2 but it's hilarious... and educational!

I forgot to post that one. I love that game as well. I can't seem to conquer it though.

I've had this one since the begining. Sometimes I feel like Cmtz and sometimes I feel like CanX. Actually this question has been answered already on another thread. Don't remember which one, but I know you asked the question. All I remember was a party afterwards and lots of women.

I need to get TOTD. Maybe that should be my next mini-goal. I guess I'll need the keyboard, too.

As for the others, I have to say HOTD2. It's a fun game and the voice acting, while horrible, somehow makes the game better. I couldn't play it all the way through since the gun wasn't mine. Can't play HOTD3 beause my Xbox is a piece of crap.

But I do play Pinball of the Dead quite a bit, so maybe that's my fave.

I'll always love the original House of the Dead best.

The Saturn version, specifically.

I looked all over the place for it and finally found it by calling half of North America (this was before Ebay got big)

There was nothing like slapping that CD in the Saturn and fishing out that big-ass orange gun and blowing away some blocky-ass zombies. Awful graphics, great gameplay.

Then I discovered the secrets menu... red blood and huge bullets!

I don't think anyones gonna vote for HotD4. Hell, I didn't even know Sega had announced it yet!

I vote Typing, but out of the list - HotD 2.

I voted for HOTD3, not because it was my favorite, but because you can access an arcade perfect port of HOTD2 on it. The shotgun thing just changed things too much for me. It made HOTD3 one of the easiest games. And the branching paths changed. But hey, all of HOTD2 was there too.

I've actually been playing a ton of HOTD3 lately. Well, HOTD2 on the HOTD3 disc ;)

I liked HOTD2 a lot too. Played the hell out of it on Dreamcast, to the where I could clear the game without losing a life... plus it had all the weird extra weapons like fishing lures. The voice acting is uttercrap but that somehow added to the game.

BTW, there's a level of Zombie Revenge that takes place in the mansion from the first House of the Dead, but I'm not sure if that game is an offical spinoff since the story/acting is once again crap.

Yep, it's all about The Typing of the Dead.

Given the game's popularity (there were two or three updates to the PC version released in Japan, and a PS2 port was announced not so long ago), I'm still suprised that House of the Dead 3 has not also gotten the typing treatment. It is available for PC now, after all.

Oh, and you forgot Pinball of the Dead.

i still wish HotD3 was cel-shaded as it had originally been. it wasn't cartoony enough to ruin the mood, and felt better at home then the generic graphics they ended up using.

House of the Dead 2 is awesome. I have it for Dreamcast and I have the gun. God, my brother and I would always play that game. I remember the horrible voice acting that we'd always make fun of. "No, G!" LOL

I would also have to say The Typing of the Dead. As far as the shooter versions go however... I'd have to go with House of the Dead 2 on Dreamcast (which I still have yet to get around to buying along with a gun). I have House of the Dead 3 for Xbox (and use the Silent Scope gun) and, yeah, it's really great. But 2 is still EASILY my favorite!

I've only played TOTD so far, so it's got to be my favorite ;) I don't have guns for the other systems, so I won't be getting the other regular HOTDs anytime soon.

In the arcade my favorite is the original, the one, the onlyRCM The House of the Dead.

At home (or on the road), The Pinball of the Dead is my most-reached-for zombie fix.

Ha! This is awesome. I've never seen one board with so many people that like Typing of the Dead. It's definitely my favorite out of them. It's so much fun to play two-player, as well. Me and my buddy did really well one time and we were getting all the best/coolest routes. Very fun game.

What other games did Sega release in that style? I know Typing Space Harrier exists, but I never managed to find the demo.

I was actually fortunate enough to play Lupin the Typing recently. It's somewhat less coherent than TOTD, but there's also some more variety in the gameplay. I was finished when I had to start identifying katanana (Mission 6 or 7, I think).

Amen to that. Insanely clever spinoff of the core lightgun game design (it seems so obvious now how both genre's share similar elements). Best zombie themed typing tutor ever. ;P

Hey...where is Pinball of the Dead? :D

I voted for HotD2.

The first time I played it in the arcade, I put like a $ in it & my game ended in less than 30 seconds! :embarrassed: :( So I knew I had to hone my skills on the home version. As soon as I got a Dreamcast, I got the game.

The first time my preteen niece saw/played this, she started screaming & didnt stop. Not sure if she was "acting" or actually scared, but I probably shouldnt have done that...(this is the same girl who whipped her brother & my @$$ on a DC UFC game!)

HotD2 is very playable & great fun w/ your right trigger to shoot & the left trigg to reload.

by far HOTD 2 is my favorite, though I will admit I haven't really played HOTD 3

but TOTD is a close second, which reminds me I need to get a copy of the game again.

The original, as it was much more new back then. It felt really great back then and I loved it more then Resident Evil. So much good memories on that game. Also for home-use I prefer a (Black) Stunner above the DC-Gun, but that's just my taste.

Part 2 was also got never played the third one with a gun, and with no arcade anymore around I never had time to check it out.[/i]

I thought it already was. And even if it isn't, Sega made an actual PC port of it.

I've still not played TOTD =( I really want to. Might improve my typing skillz somewhat.

I voted for the first one. I've put the most time into it and the first time I saw it it had the biggest "wow!" factor.
