View Full Version : What's up with all the mass suicides in Halo 2 lately?

I don't get it. I've never experienced this problem in Halo 2 on Live before until this Sunday. Now, about 50-60% of the games I play have my teammates or players on the other team intentionally killing themselves. It's driving me apeshit too because my rank keeps going down because I'm stuck on the same team with these assholes.

What's going on? Are people doing this for a reason other to be annoying? I could understand if it happened just once in a while but like I said, more than half the games I've been playing have been like this.

Alot of losers on Leveling themselfs down.
2 reason I can think of.
1. They are former cheating bastards, modders, hackers, etc.. and now they can't get a win playing against legitimit higher level players.
2. There just losers that think it will be more fun to be a level 2 so they can get over 20 kills in a match and then talk shit about it during the game and in the post gae lobby.

I wish they would hide the levels so you can't see them, then maybe people would just play for fun.

A lot of people create multiple accounts because they have 2 month free trial cards. So they usually have one gamertag they use to annoy people. Waste of time if you ask me. This is why I never go into matchmaking without a party.

Yeah, that's gotta be it. Last week the new update was introduced, now this week all these people are killing themselves. Probably former moders. It makes sense.

Fairly unrelated, but I've noticed (though I haven't played much lately) that Team Preview is the new team training, which is both good and bad. It's good in the fact that you can play that instead and not have to worry about quitters as much as Team Training (very rare to make it all the way through without a quitter). It's bad, though, because you can't really play a serious unranked game anymore since people treat it as the new training.

I'm not sure why but I've found players like that a big problem in halo 2, drives me crazy.

I know on SOCOM people will set off many explosives at once in an attempt to lag up the server and boot everyone out of the room.

I wonder what would happen if people started to act like they do on the internet?

World War 3? Mass genocide?

though I play on Live all the time. whenever we (me and my wife) have a match with the more the common asshole. I love to turn to my wife after the match is over and say "Live is just a Breeding ground for retards" while the grifer is still on :)

then I leave them matching feedback and yell SPOOON!! real loud if they still happen to be in the post game room and talking mess.

I swear some people really are as trashy in R/L as they are on Live.

now don't get me wrong a Good match is a good match I'll be the first one to say good game when I lose. When I win I complament the players skill at cetain points of the game. But some people are not happy with that and just feel they need to be a complete Fu^^ tard. Makes for more the an annyoning match at times.

I don't play Halo 2 online unless it's with people on my friends list, because most people are just too idiotic.

Probably not for the most part. A lot of the worst offenders are probably people who have never been in a real fight and are sponging off mommy and daddy.

I've noticed that the number of players online (at least on my list) has dropped dramatically over the summer. I wonder if people have had enough of H2.

I'm beginning to wonder if I have as well. :/

Halo 2 is a perfect example of why you should play an online game early.....and then get out while the experience still holds some integrity. Why are you still wasting time by playing Halo 2? The game's gone to shit. Don't put yourself through it. Move on and let the 12 year olds have their realm.

I still have'nt gotten the game yet. I planned to when I can pick up a copy for $20 or under. And then I'll be wanting to try Live since everyone is talking about it. ;) I hope SOME good players are left by then. LOL

BTW, that 'online game rule' does'nt seem to apply to BF 2. Still very good matches in that one.

Yes, I think I have had enough.

I love Halo multiplayer and could not wait for the chance to play online, which is the main reason I got Live. At first(early in the year) it seemed to be pretty awesome and 70% of the players were cool. But by this summer it seems like everyone is a jackass! LOL

So I'd rather just play multiplayer with some friends in real life I think.

I'm starting to have enough and I play all the damn time. The suicides are so annoying its not even funny. I think its time to move on to something else, maybe all those RPGs i've been neglecting. :/

People that are mass suiciding are either people who want their rank down for a few reasons:

1. They realized its just a number and doesn't determine skill in the least.

2. They figured out Matchmaking sucks, which it does.

3. They are just dumb.

I really don't play matchmaking too much anymore, and if I do its only with my team (D3ADBOX), or with people on my F/L. Basically if you are sick of playing matchmaking and getting matched up with retards, play MLG.

MLG = Custom games where you start out with a Battle Rifle, and there is no radar.

Example, 4vs4 TS on Lockout. 4 people on red, 4 on blue. BR start, no radar. That = Fun

I think we should give bungie credit for at least trying to fix the problem. They've gone to great lengths to eliminate modders and hopefully they'll do better in the next round.

Hopefully the across the board feedback and player ratings that will becoming to live with the 360 will make a difference. Otherwise it's just gonna be the same old story again and again and again.

Yeah I noticed that. Thats why I hardly play anymore. Too many Tards playing these days.

If you're talking about a new copy, don't hold your breath. Remember how long it took them to drop the original Halo to Platinum Hits. Halo is one of Xbox's new cash cows, and MS is going to milk every penny they can out of it.

One very simple thing that I'm surprised Bungie didn't do that I've seen in just about every other online FPS is give the host the ability to boot people, have an option where people can vote to boot people, or have the ability to block certain people outright.

It seems like most online games really have to build in a lot of protection or the games/servers will just be awful after awhile. Like someone else said, get in on it early before the cheaters/hackers/kids take it over.

I only play Counter-Strike online and it's only fun if you get on the right server (low ping, friendly fire off, voting system to kick people). Initially friendly fire was always on so most servers were awful since the teammates would just kill each other at spawn. Without the update to turn it off from Valve I would never play. Looks like Microsoft needs to make some adjustments to halo 2 online.

I just finished playing a game of Team Slayer online and sure enough, there was some dickface on my team that was trying to kill himself on purpose. He kept on saying "Kill me, kill me". Sounded like he was 14-15 yo. I tried reasoning with him and asked why he was doing it. He said that this was his "Level Down" account and he had a separate account for serious playing. When I asked why he had a 2nd account, he said "you have allot to learn about Halo".

Apparently, allot of players use their main account to play with friends for serious play (this kid said he's a Level 30), and a "Level Down" account to practice on Live against strangers like me. x_x

Anyway, I talked him out of killing himself and we ended up winning 50-49. Still pisses me off though that there are people on Live like this that gotta ruin it for others.

Well, they have it set to ban modders, and they've fixed most all of the game-breaking glitches...there's just not much one can do with people fucking around other than leave bad feedback to the Xbox Live team, and play in teams of friends.

I don't play halo 2, but why would you have a level down account? If I'm understanding this correctly, they want a lower level so they can play easier players, kill them easy (have fun), but then after a bunch of kills they level up to harder players (better skilled, not so fun), so then they want to go back down again to the newbies. Is this right?

So true. I have to really be in the mood to play Halo 2 if none of my Clanmates are online. It irritates me to know end to wind up playing with some foul mouthed kid who spends the entire round talking trash and talking about how he "owns." It's even worse when they suck at the game and they lose repeatedly. Reminds of one time I was stuck in a sniping round and I killed this kid using the pistol because I had snuck up on him and he started whining and saying he was going to report me for cheating. @_@

thank god I quit this game when I did. I couldent stand having to play with your evel range in match making to begin with. Why cant it be like all other online games and let you just choose what rooms u wanna go into...sigh...

I just talked to one of these offenders. I dont play Halo 2 so I didnt know WTF he was saying but it has something to do with having two accounts, matching a high level character with a low level one, leveling up and...yeah. maybe one of you can figure it out from there. @_@

Here you go...
"We do it to derank our second accounts. Then in turn you use your second accounts to 'boost' your friends first accounts. After your second accounts get too high level you then ALL log on to them and just let your opponents win so you can derank your account."

That explains it why most of the players who do this are in groups of 2 or 3. It all makes sense now.

Fuck this. I'm just playing in the Rumble Pit for now on. There, you just fight for yourself and don't have to worry about teammates screwing your rank.

Yeah, basically the way Halo 2 works is that only people within a certain rank (I think it's 5 plus or minus) can play with each other.

So, if my hypothesis is correct, what these guys are doing is purposely making a low-level gamertag so they can play with their friends on their teams as a ringer.

Which is lame -- I've been playing a lot of Burnout 3, and not only will the high level guys let you play with them, they're usually pretty cool about telling where the good spots to use boost or get takedowns are. I'm at about 1600-2600 and even people that are ranked in the top 10 have been pretty cool... though it probably helps that I usually only play online very late at night (like 2-3 AM) so the kiddies have gone to bed already.

Halo gives you the option to boot someone, if there on your team and they kill you.
So if its a smaller map with confined areas (hallways) I try to run over to the guy leveling down right away and hope he takes me out with him. Then the nice blue message pops up on the screen Hold X to boot so and so.
It works sometimes, and sometimes you can convince the people your leveling down also and have them shoot you, then boot them even sooner.

Gemini-Phoenix
08-04-2005, 02:45 AM
I would have also said that these people are cheaters too. Sounds like a common cheat if a lot of people seem to be doing it. Either that, or it's a duff cheat which actually causes the user to suicide rather than, say, become invincible...

Only other reason I can think of is that there are clans who are intent on bringing high level players down a few levels on purpose. Knowing that their level will be reduced if they all play badly...
