Some photos from my Megaman 1 cardridge. I got this game 1997. The difference is 2 enemies are missing from the 3. Wilystage.
I`m not sure, if this a real prototype or just a testcardridge for a magazin.

Cool.
Are those the only differences? Just two enemies missing.
Can you play through the whole game?

Looks like a Prototype for me. Same sticker on the Case then mine Willow Prototype. And a EPROM on the Board.
And Testcartridges for magazin can be Prototypes too, when I not wrong. Most its the same.
But there exist too Test Cartridges, to test the NES. These are different and most no games, just to see which button you press. I know only that The Legend of Zelda was used as Test cartridge. This has a yellow Case and a normal Lable when I not wrong.

Dump the ROMs and back them up on some secure means of storage so that the images don't get lost due to bit rot. Even if you don't want to release the dump into the wild, at least make backups for yourself, and keep them in multiple places and medias so as to prevent lossing that prototype forever due to fire, a hard drive crash, a scratched CDR, or a decaying EPROM.

Moosman, that is a PROTOTYPE. A "test" cart is only a yellow or gray cart that tests Nintendo systems for wear and tear, fucntionality; etc.

Weird change. Does anyone know of a list of the differences between the Japanese and American releases of the game?

I think what he means by "test cart" is a press sample for reviews, etc.
Being German, too, I can see where the translation comes from. Plus, he wrote "test cartridge for a magazin". ;)

If you have a proto, and a "test cart sent to magazines" side by side, you can't tell which is which unless one says something like "to: GamePro" on the label.
