This had me laughing for a bit. A programmer names Mike Zornek has created an amusing application for the Macintosh called The Megaman effect. To quote his site:

The MegaManEffect is a application that emulates an effect seen in the classic NES game Mega Man 2.
When you launch an OS X application, the screen goes dark, stars sweep the night sky and your application’s icon is presented in a blue letter box bar with a cheesy 8-bit music introduction.

Here's a shot of me launching Micosoft Word:

Darn, I wish they had this for XP, that would be awesome to have. If not annoying after a while.

That is too funny. I put it on my Mac right away. It does slow down the load of a program quite a bit, but its easy to turn on and off.

Uh oh, once Cauterize finds this out, he'll rush out and buy a Mac...

That's really an excellent idea.

I wonder if he included something where the stars turn to little fish if you hold shift when you load the program...

LOL

just mount the .dmg (double click on it)
the application should run automatically - you see a window that says "Turn on the Mega Man Effect" and Mega Man's head will apear in the dock

leave it open, then start opening up applications

the animation is a tad choppy though

We have some smart coder people here, right? Someone crank out a Windows version. And make it work in 98, please.

That's awesome. I'm using my MAC right now. I would definetly have that, then have my desktop have the complete Mega Man theme to it. :)

That is sweet! I would port it to Windows, but it'd probably be easier to just completely rewrite for windows. If I get bored at work this or next week, maybe I'll crack open the source code and see if there's something I'm missing... it doesn't seem like it'd be that complex to create, probably just a lot of stuff I've never done before (like monitoring what applications get run, then grabbing and displaying that icon, along with delaying the application start until after the intro). It might be a good learning experience though, and it'd look like I was actually busy at work ;) .

Knowing me, there would be a point at 3 in the morning where I got so annoyed of this animation that i would punch a hole through my monitor, or turn off the program in the taskbar.
