Hey guys. Those blasted tv game switches are so hard to find nowadays, how do you guys find the cheapest/easiest way to hook the 2600 up to a modern tv?
I have at my disposal:
Patience
For a Few Dollars More w/ The Man with No Name
And a Few Dollar Stores

If you have a RadioShack nearby...they still sell tv game switches for $10 each.

Here ya go buddy: check this post out (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=57360&highlight=atari+2600)
You just have to go to radio shack and buy the adapter to plug to the two loose wires into and then plug it into the back of your TV.

..or you can go the Geek route and buy a S-Video/Stereo mod board for your 2600, 5200, and 7800.

98pacecar has the CyberTech board and it is nice playing a 4 switcher on a HDTV threw S-Video; $1000's of dollars of sound system blaring BLEEP. It is constantly not available so you have to go 8bit or homebrew mod atm. I've never seen the other mods in action.

For rather simple needs, would a dollar store Female to Male RCA adaptor work?

I guess my question is that will the normal rca to co-ax adapter in a dollar store work fine? Or does it need to be a specific type.
I know it sounds cheap but I hate dealing with online stores.

The 2600 output is RF modulated only on USA ch. 3 or 4. Most TV's only take RF threw the Coax in so the formula would be RCA->COAX for any cheap adapter.

so any RCA to coax would be fine.

You betcha! Nothing like using 4400 watts of power to make that irritating pac man sound even worse!! ;)
It's a great mod and definately the way to go if you have a system to mod (doesn't require any permanent mods). It's more expensive than the RS adaptor, but the quality is well worth it!

just mod the atari for a/v output
its only 3 resistors and an a/v cord
total cost is pretty much $0 since everyone has a/v cords laying around
