For about 8 years now I always thought that Sony was on top, but then I started thinking. Sony might have the best selling system, but Nintendo has the Nintendo DS ( best selling system now), the GBSP (very good seller) and the GameCube (not too bad of a seller unlike Xbox). I figure that with all these systems Nintendo should still be on top of Japans Video Game Market.

While I was there, although I did see a good amount of shelving dedicated to their handhelds, there wasn't much for the Cube, ESPECIALLY compared to the PS2.

PS2 would get like, over 2 aisles, and the Cube would be lucky to get one column of shelves.

DS and GBA tended to get a row of shelving together. And the less said about the XBox, DC, and PSP, the better.

I was in Japan about a month ago... and as far as I could tell the PSP is pretty damn big there. The average space devoted to the NDS (imho) was bigger, but only by a few hairs.

I barely saw any XBox games at all (not very suprising...), but I did see a TON of friggin' DC games (I even bought a few... heehee).

For Japan, methinks:
PS2 + PSP > GCN + GBA + NDS

Keep in mind, however, that I am not working off any formal statistics, just my observations.

And just because I miss Japan so much:

Well, I went in May, and about all I ever saw for PSP was UMD movies. A few games here and there, but not a whole lot compared to the inordinate space I'd find for DS.

Nintendo does not own Japan. I got a snipe bid in during the last 7 seconds and won the auction.

I am willing to entertain trade offers though. Just be warned that I'm going to mark the price up because shipping was a bitch.

I'd like to hear Yamazaki weigh in on this. I think he's the only member of this board who actually lives in Japan and would be most qualified to fill us in on the Japanese zeitgeist towards the big N.

Hellooooo, Yamazaki?...

Is that true? I don't see that as being a world dominance issue...they're supporting their local economy. Actually theyre supporting their local economy twice. For obvious reasons in Washington but also since Japan has a love affair with the Mariners.
