I collected video gaming magazines like mad back when I first heard about the Genesis. I still have the first 3 or 4 years of Electronic Gaming Monthly stored away in a box somewhere.

I threw out all my old Gamepros during a cleaning binge about ten years ago. I came across one in an old magazine store recently and got all nostolgic. The first year or two they had those weird painted covers that didn't actually depict any specific game, just random ninjas, barbarians, and football players.

Anyone know of any places online that carry a few old video game mag back issues? Most of the places I've found stick to stuff like Time and National Geographic.

Ebay is the obvious place...I'd like to know of any more myself, having recently gotten a bit of a collecting bug for these mags too. Sometimes I can fing some back issues at used book stores, but they are usually recent. Ebay is the only place I've had a lot of luck, but shipping costs on numerous issues can get large. You can often get lost dirt cheap though, not too many people trolling for magazine back issues (you can't good deals on magazine subscriptions as well).

General rule of thumb is that the older the mag the more you'll need to pay. Some mags like Dreamcast and Next sell for more than their original cover price.

If you find a place that sells older issues of EGM that doesn't have "E" or "bay" in its name then let me know.

I got in the habit of saying VIDEO GAME MAGA ZINEEEE

Because my uncle was always "YOU READ GAY MAGAZINES?!?! Whenever I said "Game magazine"

Prick.

BYW I could take him easily now.

Prick.

Sadly I've found plenty of places online that sell back issues of old gay magazines. Maybe I just need to steer my collecting bug in a different direction.

All I ever see on eBay is subscriptions to EGM...never any issues or anything from even the first 5 years.

It sucks...I saw issue 1 all over the fucking place when I was younger...If I only knew then how rare it is...

I just threw away a dead hooker's weight worth of magazines about 2 weeks ago. Nothing that old in the stack, but they weren't doing me any good laying around. I've got another little stack of EGM/Gamepro/Nintendo Powers I'm about to toss too.

I have bought many back issues on ebay.

Infact I have won auctions where it costs the seller money to send me the package, since they start the mags out at .99 and might underprice shipping, and Im the only one who bids.

U can get them really cheap on ebay.

I have been looking for the first 10 issues of EGM and Gamepro, if anyone has them (mostly the first 3). :-)

Shit, I wish.

Try looking at some GameFan auctions.

There is a pretty large demand for old GameFan's, EGM's, GamePro's and Video Games & Computer Entertainment.

Sometimes the really early issues for these mags can go for some big bucks, especially if they are in really good cond.

The secret is out on classic game mags from the very late 80's and early 90's. When they show up, people are all over them now. The bid wars can get kinda outta hand, and sometimes the shipping is way high.

For awhile I got caught up in buying old mags on Ebay, and sometimes I got caught up in a bidding war, and then said, "Damn, why the hell did I spend that much money on some old video game mag".

But I tell you what....... For my Die Hard GameFan's, and my Next-Generations, it was worth it to pay some money to get a nice collection.

I have a complete collection of Next-Generation (everything but that one e3 issue with the gold N64 Zelda cart on the cover), and I have a large collection of GameFan. Still missing about 13 issues of GameFan.

Has anyone scanned any old video game mags just for pure reading enjoyment (i.e. the whole "digital comic book" revolution)? I can't imagine there are any rights issues or anything since many of those mags and publishers have gone out of business.

I have a whole batch of ELECTRONIC GAMES from the early '80s still in decent shape -- they're a ton of fun to yank out and read from time to time :)

Thats when you post about them in the Buying & Selling Forum. Never know when people like me will be interested in them.

if you shop around on ebay you can get some good NP prices

i picked up 90 that i needed for $10 with local pickup.....much better than the people that sell 1 issue for $3 + $6 shipping
