ok, i have a question about the Donkey Kong land games. OK, I had a Donkey Kong Land cartridge for Gameboy a while back but lost it. So, i decide to download the rom for it alogn with 2 and 3. Now Im confused with what I downloaded. I remember playing the cartridge and it had Donkey and Diddy. but what i downloaded is a gameboy version of Diddys Kong Quest (under the label "Donkey Kong Land"). Basically what im saying is DKL 1 AND 2 are the same exact thing (Diddy's Kong Quest) but have different title screens. DKL3 is Dixes Kong Trouble.
So could anyone tell me whats wrong. Were the games different in Japan or something?

Ok I figured this would happen. My post would get pushed down. Someone's gotta know.

I wouldn't think theyd get special versions... it's probably just a homebrew / hack rom. Only DKC port I know of was Donkey Kong Country's official release. DK Land games were just watered down portable versions of their Super Nintendo counterparts (like Mario Land before it...)

Donkey Kong LAND for Game Boy and the Donkey Kong Country ports for GBA are different games. Maybe they are mixing the GBA and GB ports.

Sounds like someone just misnamed the ROM. Try GoodGBx and it'll rename it to its proper name.
The Donkey Kong Land games were interpretations of the SNES Country series (i.e. DKL1=DKC1, DKL2=DKC2...blah blah). Donkey Kong Country was rereleased for both the GB Color and Advance. DKC 2&3 have also been rerelased for the GBA.

Not yet, but it was slated for a 4th quarter release in the US.

Actually, while Donkey Kong Land 2 and 3 are fairly direct ports of Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3, respectively, the first Donkey Kong Land is almost entirely different from Donkey Kong Country.
I sort of get the feeling that DKL was almost a tech demo thrown together from leftovers that weren't used in DKC. Some of the concepts are pretty cool, though, like the final City world.

You downloaded the Jap version. The first DK Land was called "Super Donkey Konga GB" in Japan, while DKL2 was titled "Donkey Kong Land". Yeah, it's confusing.
On a side note, looking back, the first DKL really sucked. The controls were really sloppy, the hit detection was bad, and everything was so overdetailed it all blurred together.

I actually thought it wasn't too bad. Maybe it was the music I liked. This mighta been just me but I liked to listen to the music on the first world map or whatever you wanna call it. I just thought that tune was great. I think they use an updated version of it on DKL3 title screen.

While we're on the subject of Donkey Kong games for Gameboy, does anyone know what Donkey Kong 5 is? It's obviously a pirate but does anyone have info on it. I downloaded a rom of it out of curiousity but the rom doesnt work and Im dying to see what it is. Ive downloaded a Donkey Kong Country 4 rom for NES which was just a DKC port for NES so Im wondering if maybe DK5 is a port of some other DK game.

I think DK5 is on one of my X-in-1 GB games. It had a level from the first DKL, from what I remember...
