So, I have a boxed copy of Mario's Tennis for the Virtual Boy, but it appears to be a display box. My little brother read in "some game magazine" that the only way to get a boxed copy was to by Mario's Tennis from Blockbuster, and get a display box from them. I checked around, and www.virtual-boy.org/mtdisplaybox.htm seems to confirm this. They call a boxed copy "uncommon."

The DP guide says a complete copy is $5. I know Mario's Tennis is a pretty common game, but is this DP price taking into account the rarity of the box? I don't know a lot about Virtual Boy, so maybe someone with a bit more knowledge could tell me some more about this? Thanks

I've seen the NFR box for Mario Tennis before. I would guess it isn't all that rare. Especially considering how Blockbuster was the primary outlet for VB in the beginning. They probably had a lot of these boxes floating around.

Nintendo manufactured the boxes for Blockbuster (and possibly other rental stores) so they would have a display box to rent the game out with. When the Virtual Boy died, a good chunk of the boxes were probably thrown out, so it's definately not easy to find, as the remainder of the boxes were most likely quickly snatched up by collectors.

They are uncommon, but they aren't that rare. Complete copies of Mario's Tennis with the box usually sell for $20 on Ebay. I've even found 2 in the wild over the past couple years.

I actually never knew they existed until now... Dang.
Now I have to go out and find a box for Mario's Tennis to make my Virtual Boy Collection CIB.
I was using a Japanese Mario Tennis box as a subsititute until now. :frustrated:
