I finally bought a PlayStation(the first one) today. I went ahead and selled out 40$ bucks for it and 3 games(yeah, I know I ripped myself off, but I've been wanting one for awhile) Now I need to know what some good cheap games(like 8$ and under) are. My favorite games are fighters(mainly 2D), puzzle and racing games. I like action/platfomer games too. So what are some good cheap games that I would like?
P.S.-Is their any Metal Slug(or something like MS) games for this?
Thanks in advance!

Is it expensive and hard to find?

Well, I thought Destruction Derby was a blast to play, and it should be relatively cheap.
It's a racing game, but you'll score better if you concentrate on inflicting as much damage to others as possible, and relegate the task of winning the race to a secondary concern.
In other words, yeah, you are rewarded for winning the races, but you're rewarded much, much, more for taking other cars out.
So, if you like action games, and you like racing games, you may like this one. I did. A lot.

Fairly, last time I've seen a few, they go for $25-30 a piece

Any Tomb Raider game will be a very enjoyable, immersive and deep action/platformer. As a bonus, they are very commone, and dirt cheap on the PSX. Really fun games, and if you haven't played them, I'm jealous!

Yeah, Metal Slug X came out towards the end of the systems shelf life, which makes it kind of hard to find.
For racing titles, the first one I think of are Gran Turismo 1 & 2, R4 (ridgeracer 4), and Need For Speed 3. All are dirt cheap and should entertain for a while.
2-D fighters that I like are Darkstalkers 3, Street Fighter Collection, and Street Fighter Alpha 1 2 3.
If you like quirky platformers try Silouette Mirage, Tail Concerto, and the Oddworld games.
Hope this helps and have fun!

Thanks so far for the replys guys. And actually one of the games I bought was Destruction Derby 2, and it's fun.
And 25-30$ seems a little to much for a PS game, especially since the system only cost 20$, but hopefully I can find me a copy at GameStop or Eb for cheap.

Here are a few fun titles that should be cheap and easy to find:
Racing:
-Gran Turismo 2 (the first one is good too, but if you can only get one, this is the one to go with)
-Destruction Derby
-Sled Storm (not to be confused with the PS2 title of the same name)
-Rage Racer
-RC de GO! (I imagine that if RC Pro-AM had seen a 32-bit update, it would have been similar to this)
Puzzlers:
-Cleopatra's Fortune
-Turnabout
-Sheep
Other:
-Qix Neo
-Gekioh: Shooting King (fun vertical shooter)
-Hot Shots Golf
-Driver
-Rayman
-Grand Theft Auto 2 (best of the 2D GTAs imo)
-Ape Escape

Twisted Metal 2 is great. That'd be one of my first buys if I had a PS.

What the hell? Nobody has mentioned Castlevania yet?!
If you like platform/adventures.. it doesn't get much better than Symphony of the Night. The Greatest Hits version can still be found if you have a lot of Gamestops around you. Probably Top 5 of all Playstation 1 games.
Klonoa is also pretty damn good platformer with a damn good story to go with it.
Mega Man 8 is okay. Mega Man X 4 is too. Avoid all others.
For "other" try Parappa the Rapper and ESPECIALLY Um Jammer Lammy, they're both quirky little rhythm games with insanely excellent humors. Lammy is the better title and can be found for about $3.

Cheap racers? Can't go wrong with the Wipeout series and I think all of the PS1 Wipeouts are around $5 or less. There are piles of good PS1 games for less than $10. Just troll through an EB and don't be afraid to try something you've never heard of.

You can't go wrong checking the forum's compiled Top 50 PlayStation Games list:

As far as great puzzlers go, I recommend Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo. It may still go for around $20+, though. If you have a Saturn, you ought to be able to get it for around $10. But how can you go wrong? A puzzle game featuring Capcom fighters? Whoah.
And I'll second the recommendation for the Oddworld games, which should fall in your "less than $8" requirement. Great action/puzzle/platform games. And pretty, too.
Yep, the PSX is still a great "retro" system and the games are highly playable. Try these.....
Tomba or Tomba 2. INCREDIBLE platform/puzzlers.
The Italian Job. You SHOULD still be able to get it new.
Silent Hill. This was the creepiest one, due in part to the limited graphic capabilities of the machine. Lots of fog and bleary light to mask limited draw distance capability. Make ABSOLUTELY sure that you get this game.
Jarrett And Labonte Stock Car Racing. (Codemasters) It's NOT NASCAR oval tracks. Huge road courses (Laguna Seca type stuff). You play a career and race all kinds of cars during it. Damage model is awesome and the AI is relentless.
The two Colin McRae Rally games.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 is an amazing fighting game. I'm not sure if you can find it for that cheap, though. However, I personally think it is worth every single penny, as it's replay value is the most I've ever played in a fighting game.

I really enjoyed the Vigilante-8 series. And Rouge Trip. Also Einhander and Omega Boost.
All really great games. :D

Yes, Ace Combat 2 is nice [especially music wise] but 3 is my preferred choice. Huge GFX overhaul, many secrets, and even a story too [J only].
If I ever find the J version, I'd get it in a heartbeat.

If you can find it, I recommend Front Mission 3. I love this series.
