View Full Version : Just picked up a NES store display – is it complete?

Hey everyone,

I picked up a “World of Nintendo” store display unit in my home city of Ottawa yesterday. I’m trying to determine if I have all the parts for it. The lady I got it from told me that she received all the parts for it when she picked it up from Zellers in the early 90’s. She had no idea how to put it together so she kept all the hooks, glass panels and shelves in storage (thank god !!) As you can see, she was just using it for storage:

Anyway, when I picked it up and received the following parts:
3 metal shelves
9 metal hooks to hold the shelves.
2 glass side panels
2 front glass doors (1 with rollers on the bottom and one without!)
2 bottom glass doors
1 black wooden lower shelf

After 6 hours of cleaning I finished adding the unit to my gaming room:

As you can see from the picture, one of the glass front doors could not be placed on as it was about 2 cm too short and could not stay on the track. I know it’s a part of the unit as it has one of those Mario maintenance stickers on it. For those of you out there who have one of these - Do both front sliding panels have rollers on them?. Am I missing something?

I’ve also recall seeing one of these units that had rods attached to the back peg board. These rods would be used to hold sealed NES games using those plastic hang tabs. I don't have any of these rods. Did these units come with any of these??

I would really appreciate it if someone out there can tell me if i'm missing any parts.

I don't recall ever seeing one of these sell on ebay. Any idea on how much one of these would fetch?

Thanks

Yeah, could you rehost them on www.imageshack.us , please?

This sounds good. I won't be able to answer your questions, though, I'm just interested in seeing what it is.

congrats on your display center. any chance you can call/write nintendo and ask them if it's complete or not? i know it may be a long shot, as most may have not been around back then.

I doubt they would actually tell you anything, because I called Nintendo asking about Signs/Displays from the NES era, and wondering if I had them all, and they told me they didn't have any information on it. They said each specific maker or each sign would have the info, but they didn't have any themselves.
It never hurts to try though.

Ya, glass cabinets are great cause they keep the dust off the systems. I need to figure out how to get the second pane of glass on the NES cabinet i picked up!

Finally found something good at the local SA:

SNES:
Aladdin
Championship Pool
Lion King
Midway Presents: Arcade's Greatest Hits: Atari Collection
Speedy Gonzales
(all loose)

Then at a pawn shop got:

Genesis:
Contra Hard Corps (cart & manual)
Dragon's Revenge (boxed)
Mutant League Football (loose)
Thunder Force III (boxed)

Last stop was a couple of yard sales. Didn't find anything at the first one but then got this Panasonic stereo cabinet (minus the stereo itself) for $2. It's got a front glass door and the top is also glass. It will make a great little side cabinet for some of my extra consoles.

My apoligies didn't mean to thread jack. I had several DP windows open and "thought" I was in the weekend finds.

We now take you back to your regulary scheduled thread.

Thanks for all the complements! I was ecstatic when I found it and even more excited when the lady who owned it said she would not go any lower than $50 @_@

The fact that I was so eager to pick it up (I cut work early to get it) and I paid the full price made her husband suspicious. I think he realized that the unit was worth way more than $50.

I just want to figure out that front pane of glass. If I have to get it extended or something (so it will fit the cabinet) It may end up costing me more than the unit. I'm sure it just needs a roller bracket (like on the other window pane) along the bottom.

50 bucks is a steal bro. You could get a few hundred on eBay easily. Personally, I wouldn't want to. It looks great.

Just to let you know... the canadian maker of this unit was a small company in Markham Ontario. I'm sure they don't exist anymore. Anyway, i can't get the exact name and address as the lable is on the back and i'm not about to move it LOL

Other information - The official NES model number is NES99X

i reckon youre missing a roller bracket thing.
also, if the back is just regular peg board, you should be able to pick up those hooks from a department store or something, they wont be for sale, but if you ask mangement, theyre sure to have some spare/old ones. thing is, they usually come in chrome.. so if you want them black youll need to paint them. also, hardware stores might have something similar..

Just fixed up that small gap in the wood on the lower shlef. The person I bought this from even kept the small wood chunck that came of when they were moving it to their house from Zeller's. I was able to glue it on :) I've been spending way too much time with my new baby ever since I got it. I should spend the rest of the night with my girlfriend x_x
