i've been tempted to grab a copy of the first game and see if anyone would be willing to trade it for a copy of the sequel. not sure how uncommon either are, so would my idea be wise to attempt or a waste of money?

The games got bashed by reviewers, but I found the first one highly enjoyable (haven't played the second one). It's got an opened-ended story with multiple paths to take, and by accomplishing goals and killing enemies you can collect different swords, all with different attributes. You should be able to find it used for ~$20 or less. It gets the thumbs up from me.
The second one started with a price point of $40 so it should be just about as easy to find with a $20 bill.
