Okay, here's what we know:

Sega planning to recreate a classic Sega franchise for XB360 and PS3 (IGN article) (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/631/631632p1.html)

Newly-filed application for "Outrun Coast 2 Coast" trademark (USPTO site) (http://tarr.uspto.gov/servlet/tarr?regser=serial&entry=78678431)

Now while this would seem like an open-and-shut case, Sega does have a history of over-hyping announcements (Matrix Online). Anybody got any more info?

I was hoping we'd see Outrun 2 SP ported to the Xbox. :(

Ditto. That would be a fucking crime if the greatest arcade racer ever didn't get a home console port.

Well now it looks like I'm getting a PS3 or Xbox 360. Probably the latter, since I doubt I'll have any first born to trade by the time PS3 launches.

They need to include Radmobile as an unlockable.

That game was the SHIT.

Double ditto. I'm fortunate that a local arcade has 8 of these things. There's always one available. :D

Well, if its only for PS3 and 360, it won't be Nights or anything, as that just seems more of a Revolution thing.

I dont think it will be another Outrun game. I think it might be something older and less sequal-ed. I hope.

(Damn Petes for getting rid of their Outrun 2 machines. Never played an SP version)

You're actually not too far off the mark there. ;-) It was announced and demoed about a year ago at TGS, so hopefully it doesn't stagnate into vaporware.

Outun 2 was ace so I'll welcome another with open arms. Hopefully it does make it to more than one system as I'm thinking of dropping the Xbox line of hardware soon.

Fun fact, my friend, after playing Outrun 2 at petes, came back 2 weeks later with 20 bucks in quarters solely for the game.

Guess what wasn't there anymore.

That figures. Pete's is always getting rid of stuff or having things break down. I wonder if maybe it got moved to the Lansing location...

In any case, at least Gameworks has the game. And they claim they'll be getting SP this fall. Someone let me know when that happens.

Okay, rumors are starting to fly that this is indeed an XBox 360 port of Outrun 2 SP. I'm not 100% convinced yet, but the Outrun 2 board on GameFAQs does have some inside sources posting there.

However it makes sense if you consider the details. The subtitle, "Coast 2 Coast", specifically emphasizes the "2", suggesting it's part of the Outrun 2 base. And there are claims that this was done in order to avoid confusion. Casual gamers might not be immediately aware of the fact that Outrun 2 and Outrun 2 SP are in fact different games - the addition of two letters just isn't obvious enough.

So I'm crossing my fingers that this is just SP with a Westernized name.

Makes sense, especially seeing the poor sales Outrun 2 had.

While looking over IGN's Xbox 360 game list... I did notice "Afterburner" listed, and being published by SEGA.

Well, i did see some demo/promotional footage of Sega showing off a new Afterburner game.

Even if the footage was bootleg quality, the sense of speed in that game was jaw-dropping.

They also showed "Sonic" and "House of the Dead" but...ehh..."Afterburner" wowed my jaded eyes the most.

Now it appears that Coast 2 Coast is an arcade release, and it will be for the new "Lindbergh" arcade hardware, whatever that is.

BUT, it also sounds like SP might still be in the works for either XBox or 360. Hopefully the original XBox, so I don't have to buy a 360 and a new wheel too. Heh.

Acording to the employees, one of the outrun 2 machines wasn't working with the others, so they replaced it, that one didn't work either, and then the owner said fuck it and sent the whole thing back.

HMM...

Note that Darthsol (the guy that actually works for Sumo Digital) keeps dropping hints about March, and has done so again in this particular thread. The EB listings claim a march release.

Let's just say I'm as moist as a 16 year old girl at a... oh who the devil do these kids like these days... Humphrey Bogart picture.

Thats all i needed to see.

So what is the difference between the regular "Outrun 2" and "Coast to Coast"?

XBOX... :D

So what is the difference between the regular "Outrun 2" and "Coast to Coast"?

Well, if the rumors and insider info are to be believed, then Coast 2 Coast is a home version of Outrun 2 SP. So that means...

15 all new stages
Drafting in Outrun mode
Reworked collision physics
New cars
Improved arcade time attack mode, with ghosts saved for every individual stage along the way
Turbo Outrun music (WHOO)
New 15 Stage mode, where you race all 15 stages one after another
New Heart Attack scoring and goals

Plus whatever awesome things get thrown in the home version. For Outrun 2, that was the tracks from Daytona 2 and SCUD Race/Super GT, a dozen or so new songs, reverse courses, mission mode, the original Outrun, etc.

In other words, this has potential to be total Sega AM2 sex on a DVD.
