Maybe if you're blind, or missing a thumb or something. But for being "not a fun game", I sure have played through it a lot of times.

I bought a sealed copy a while back, last year sometime, with every intention of keeping it sealed.

But the overwhelming hype made me open it and play it.

What a fucking bad idea that was, I played for 30 minutes, and I couldn't stand it. Same think as Panzer Dragoon, except worse, and much more boring. I don't see where everyone gets the idea that this game has great music either...blah.

I want my sealed copy back, thanks guys. :/

If you paid $100+ for it, I can understand your high expectations. I personally don't think its worth that amount of money either.

But for I think its a steal at 19.90. Especially when no other games come close to it.

I wish I can play this on a large plasma screen + sound system.

Maybe I'd see why it was so great if I a) actually liked rail shooters and b) actually liked electronica/techo style music.

I just found it a complete and utter bore, then again, I don't much care for Panzer Dragoon either (Saga is good), but at least Panzer Dragoon is pretty. :P

You nay-sayers have got to get into the mood to play this game, and you won't get it if you don't have the right equipment to play it. You also won't enjoy it if you can't dance, you rhythm-less bastards! LOL

The first time I played it (Dreamcast version, here) I didn't get into it, either. I thought it was a weird game that was entertaining for for a few minutes then lost its appeal. I was playing on my shitty old TV with not the best sound ever. I was also tired after a long day.

The second time I played it was a different story. I was fully awake and I had two cups of coffee. I had a new TV and a home theater system. I also had a bouncy couch.

There's nothing like Rez turned up LOUD on a good system whist on a caffeine buzz and bouncing up and down on a springy couch.

Some people have the ability to recognize Rez's greatness. Others do not. It's a music and rhythm thing, folks. You can love music and dancing and still hate Rez, but you're weird if you love club/trance music and don't like Rez when played correctly.

I agree with the sandwich. Rez was designed to be an experience, and if you don't take advantage of its features you're going to miss out on that experience.

Playing Rez without an adequate sound system would be like playing Steel Battalion on a 13" TV set.

Excuse me for the stupid question, but PS2s aren't region free are they? Do all you guys have Japanese systems or are they modded?

I'd like to get this, but there's no point if I have to import a console to do it.

There are boot discs that you can use with a PS2 or PStwo that will defeat regional lockouts. I believe that they require either minor modifications to the disc tray or else installation of a flip-top lid (replacing the upper part of the PS2's shell). I'm not sure what modifications, if any, are required to use a boot disc with a PStwo.

I haven't started importing for the PlayStation 2 yet, but I probably will once the PlayStation 3 comes out and PS2 import game prices start to fall.

I wouldn't recommend the swap discs for PS2, they're a pain in the ass to use. They don't just work like on the Dreamcast (insert disc, boot, open lid, boot import). You have to either use the slide tool to open the disc tray or use the flip-top, which is slightly more convenient but doesn't work all the time. Also, depending on what version of the swap discs you have, some games don't work. I really recommend getting the console modded properly, costs lest than importing a new one anyway.

I don't think "having rhythm" and liking dance music has anything to do with it, because I do have rhythm, and the rhythm/dance/action genre of games are my favorite and I'm oretty damn good at them too.

I just "don't get it" and I don't think me getting a Anthony1 style TV setup is going to make me like it anymore...hasn't with any other game, won't with this one.

I have a question: how does Rez and IS: Internal Section compare? I love IS, and had Rez (sealed) but I had to sell it, and never had a chance to play it.

If Internal Section is a trippy techno Tempest (not that Tempest wasn't trippy), then Rez is a trippy techno Panzer Dragoon. I'd say that they're pretty close to each other in the trippy factor and techno quotient.

Interestingly, while IS took a vector game (Tempest) and made a raster update, Rez takes a raster game (PD) and makes it (in large part) vector, at least in appearance. Actually, the levels start rather sparse and vector looking, but then fill in with more detail as you progress through the level. At the same time, the music starts off with simple beeps and beats but becomes more complex as you shoot down enemies.

All in all it's pretty interesting, but as you can see from the replies in the thread, it's not everybody's cup of tea. If you hated Panzer Dragoon / Panzer Dragoon Zwei / Panzer Dragoon Orta, then you may not enjoy playing Rez (despite the cool trippy stuff), as the gameplay mechanic is essentially the same.
