Hey ya'll I'm just getting into the scene and found out about CGE. Looks like it could be fun. I saw the list of people ya'll have come and speak and that's a pretty good list. Any chance I'll ever see Nolan Bushnell at one of the shows? That would be DA BOMB!!!!! :D

Um, I found out that Nolan Bushnell was supposed to go to CGE back in '99 but that ended up not happening. Just was curious doing a little research on whether or not I missed a good show with Bushnell when I came upon this bit on Google

"Due to questionable actions on the part of one of the organizers of "Classic Gaming Expo 99," Nolan Bushnell will no longer be participating in, nor endorsing this year's event (scheduled to take place August 14th and 15th at the Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas)."

What the hell happened there??? X_x

It's a story too long to tell in a forum! Also I wasn't involved with organizing the show in '99 (my rookie season was 2k).

Also, moving this to the CGE Forum.

Before I go on my rant about this I ask that you continue your search for information on Google, specifically search the rec.games.video.classic group from from May 99 to Aug 99.

It's all there if you look, read everything carefully, then come to your own conclusions. If I just told the story to you (and it's a long one) it would have less credibility. I'm one of the few people that know the true story and it will eventually end up in a book I write :)

If after doing your homework you need some info or clarifications, check back.

I never know that kind of thing happend in '99 ( i enter the classic scene in the early 2K).

Anyway, i read some post on Google on this and it's still very confusing, it's look like a big "CGE99 Gate" to me, with Bushnell, Atari Socity (C.Vendel ?), the CGE Staff, and some other people on RCVG :/

Some quotes:

"doubts about the ability of the CGE team to produce a quality event"
"questionable actions"
"when situations arrise such as this"
"due to some issues surrounding it"
"Bushnell will no longer be participating in, nor endorsing"
"AHS and dozens of its members are no longer attending or endorsing the CGE"
"Namco was a sponsor and they are gone now"
"general disgust with a few members of the classic gameing community"
"Classic Gamers will never really know the 'real' story"

Outch !!! X_x

Anyway, it seem that during the summer of 99, the newsgroups was in a "highway to hell" mode with this huge flame war.... x_x

Hi Jerry,

I took some time to read some of the things I found on Google about whatever it was that took place between Nolan Bushnell and the CGE organizers. I have my own conclusion and I will keep that conclusion to myself. I understand your point about not wanting to tell the story to me because you want me to come to my own conclusions, but how is your TELLING me the story and losing credibility and your SELLING me the story in a book any different???? :| That sort of contradicts what you just said. Your selling a book later that tells the "true story" would still make you lose credibility, only you make money while doing so. ????? :|

I think Jerry's book is probably going to be about his time with Atari and cool stories surrounding that, not just about CGE99.

I don't think Jerry wants to bring up anymore crap on this public message board, when this is all clearly discussed in the past. We have enough people fighting today in this hobby, no need to add any more fuels to the fire.
