The GTA code thread reminded me of this...

Could anyone pull off the Ikari Warriors stage select code? At the title screen, before Paul and Vince stop shooting, press

Up, Down, A, A, B, Left, Right, A, B, Up, A, Down, Right, Right, Left, B, Up, Left, A, Right, B, Left, Right, A, Left, Up, A, Down, A, Right, Left, B, start.

I did it ONCE. I had the code written in front of me, and I'd go through several tries without any luck and give up. Except that one time.

Did you ever do it?

Nope, but I don't even think I ever even tried to attempt it in my younger days. Just looking at it now makes my head spin.

But I did beat all four hours of it using the ABBA code with a friend, on a sunny summer day 18 YEARS AGO!?! Wow, time flies!

That one took me forever, but I did manage to do it a couple of times...I do remember going through the entire game though, god that took forever!

While we're on the subject, is this the longest game to finish in gaming history? Anyone wanna write a thread on this?

I guess this one's good enough.

I think Ikari Warriors was the first game I was progressing in (ABBA) and actually quit playng just because I got sick of it. But I did eventually finish it via cheating. I remember the ending was "Disappointing if I'd played it honestly".

P.O.W was another game that took too damn long.

NES Rampage would qualify as "games that take way too long to complete"

as well as a nomination for "most unsatisfying ending evar"

Bah. Guerilla War owns this game. :P

Well... I think I may have pulled off the code, but it took me a crapload of tries to do so. I wanted to see what the last level looked like, because I often became trapped due to the shitty level design. If you wandered down the wrong avenue in stage 3, you'd be imprisoned between a dead end and stupid-ass scrolling that doesn't allow you to backtrack. And even if I did get to the end, I could never figure out (until recently) what to do with that rotting corpse that's somehow three times as big as Paul and Vince. The arcade version is better, but not by much...

... I kinda digressed there, eh?

Funny story. I think I practiced for 3 years to get this code right back in the day...I never could figure out which of the two title screens to do it on. I had the code memorized, and I just couldn't get it. Also, I didn't know I had to wait for the plane to crash to get the stage select screen to appear.

Anyway, I got one of those old videos on how to play Nintendo games back in the day, with US National Video Game Team members such as Don Nauert in it. HILFUCKINGLARIOUS videos, btw. The cheese does not get any better. I don't care if you are watching Martian Space Whore Piglets From Hell. It just doesn't. Period.

Anyway, they showed how to do the code in that video. They made it look so damn easy, and I was pissed. And they did it with a shitty joystick too.

So I went and tried it. After three years, I got it on first try. I could do it almost every time after that too. Maybe I just needed to see it...I dunno.

I used to have trouble with the Ghosts and Goblins cheat too, iirc.

Donn Neuert! I haven't heard that name in a while! What ever happened to him? One of the greatest gamers ever, he just disappeared from the sceen. BTW, I think he was not onlt a member of the USNVGT, but also the Captain. He was great in EGM too...

Ha! Yeah, I saw this one vid with Don Nauert playing games, and he kept dying on some part of a game (thinking Metal Gear, but I can't honestly remember). The company didn't even edit out those parts... ha! That made for some funny footage.
