Just happened to flip to G4 and see that they must be getting close to G-Phoria x_x
I remember the first year of G-Phoria, I was actually somewhat looking forward to it, and tried to put an act on with my wife like it was in the same league as the Oscars, etc. LOL
Anyway that show completely blew, G4 went from bad to worse, and you know the rest.
Oops, looks like it actually is on right now. They just went through their list of "hot celebrity guest appearances" and I must not be cool enough, because I've never heard of most of them. Good thing that they mentioned that Kevin Pereira guy from Attack of the Show as a guest host though, because I'm a big fan! x_x O_O
If the powers that be over at G4 had any intelligence, they might notice that there BIG SHOW doesn't even register a blip on a website dedicated to the most die-hard of gamers in the world. Something's wrong there.

Not a blip indeed. I just had the misfortune of noticing it is on too. I couldn't stand the promotions for gphoria never mind the silly banter involved with the actual show. It all reeked of too much... nonsense. Nothing to do with anything that gaming people really care about (at least not this one). There were a few decent commercials, aside from that... nothing. The whole deal is like an unexpected dentist visit. I'mk not as full of venom as some are for g4, but in this respect have to say (quoting The Critic) "It stinks!" Seriously. Not doing the general hate thing, I do check out some g4 stuff (some electric playground, judgement day and yes x-play, as well as limited exposure to other offerings). Gphoria... gives me a gphoria, gphobia.

I'm with you. I really wanted to like G4 years ago, but in my mind at least, it's gone from an extremely low-budget super geeky network in the early days to the psuedo-hip, MTV/gangsta style that they're trying to shovel now. Needless to say, neither of these styles particularly suits me or anyone else that I know over the age of about 12.
I've always had a soft spot for Judgement Day though, and I hoped they'd make those guys a bigger part of the network, but are they even on anymore? Whenever I do flip to it these days it's almost always x-play.[/i]

Its no wonder that the video game industry has a hard time being taken seriously when G4 is their spokesman. If Gphoria is the closest thing games have to the oscars, its no wonder the establishment still thinks only kids play video games.

G-Phoria - Who's fired up for this?!?!?!?
Nobody with a soul, hopefully.
Even if I weren't pissed over the dissolution of TechTV because of G4, I would still hate G4. And not that I'm trying to be pretentious, but I hope most people see through their terrible programming.
Just because it's a tv channel dedicated to video games does not mean it's some kind of haven for video game fans. Rather the opposite, the channel insults real fans on a regular basis. It's bad enough you get the constant corporate ****-sucking by Victor Lucas and Tommy Tallarico who sold their souls to Electronic Arts and Electronics Boutique long ago. It's bad enough we have to sit through countless reruns, and lowest-production cost shallow-concept crap shows like Cinematech, Arena, and Filter. They're also talking less and less about video games by the month. I can't can't quite grasp how stupid Street Fury is, and I don't know how a "serious" oriented show about drift racing even got the greenlight on a video game channel geared toward 12-year olds.
They're too busy trying to look hip and like a cheap MTV knock off that even they don't know what they're doing anymore. X-Play can keep the channel afloat for only so long before it all collapses in on itself and I will thank the GODS ALMIGHTY.
Oh, and Geoff Keighley is without a doubt, the absolute stupidest, most braindead, vapid media whore to ever appear on a television. Ever.

Wow snapple, you listed the only shows WORTH WATCHING on G4....
Cinematech, Judgment day, Electric Playground, Filter
Admittedly, I haven't watched filter in over a year, and it wasn't that great, it was a decent show. I only miss the EVERY techtv show that has been cancelled. Ahh well.
I watched it and was actually suprised to see Ralph Baer receive the Gaming Legend award. They did a brief history of his life and then brought him out on stage to say a few words.
That was probably my favorite part of the show. The only other part I really enjoyed was the "Best Online Gamer" category where they showed the chocolate milk kid, sleeping Halo 2 guy and Leeeroy Jenkins. LOL

This makes it sound like it was almost decent, actually.....

No, it really sucked. Those 2 parts combined took up maybe 10 minutes of the entire show. They didn't even have people that made the games come up and accept the awards, they did stupid skits instead. Lame.

Whats the exact opposite of Fired Up?
PS Tommy Tallarico is too busy worshipping himself to get any common sense. He has the gall to badmouth Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana for having "horrible SNES area graphics" while wearing a Galaga T-shirt. What?

Filter ran out of video game ideas shortly after you stopped watching.
Now, they fill a half hour with some schlub showing new gadgets to hicks to get funny responses of what they might do and countdowns like "What's the best thing about summer."
I still watch X-Play and Icons, which seemingly hasn't had a new episode in a year.

They did an Icons about Frank Miller (Sin City), which they probably got money from the studio to do. I think the Ralph Baer one was also new.

Icons sold out harder than anyone.
They come out with a new episode everytime G4 decides to latch onto the latest overhyped game and then does a show about it. Like "Icons: Tim Schaeffer" which coincidentally came out nearly the exact same time as Psychonauts, and "Icons: That guy who made God of War." Who, truly deserves to be called an Icon alongside Ralph Baer and Nolan Bushnell I'm sure.
The Frank Miller episode just confused me. It seems more and more like G4 in general is just pandering to certain new, hip games/trends/movies to such an extent that I have to believe they're getting some kind of payoff just to shill this hard.
davepesc is right about Filter. They barely even mention video games anymore.
Even though I'm disgusted by the channel as a whole, I still watch X-Play and Attack of the Show. X-Play I've always loved, as at least they have the balls to slam a bad game and talk about actual things in the game that would turn someone on or off about it. Unlike Judgment Day, which tries to be as inoffensive as possible and so gives 90% of the games they review a 7 out of 10 or higher, then reviews in a kind of bulleted list format of categories that I don't care about.
AotS I watch only occasionally, because it can be funny or wacky from time to time. But I would much, much rather see the good old Screensavers instead, the show that was actually about tech stuff and not whatever direction they're going in this week.
Just to show how hip they're trying to be, G4 also bought the rights to the completely braindead action-loaded FOX dud "Fastlane" so they can show it every week. What does it have to do with video games? Nothing. They've also got a new late-night lineup coming up with a couple new shows called "Barbed Wire Biscuit" and "Brainiac." The only thing I know about either show is that Brainiac did some kind of piece about real and fake boobs, that is sure to stimulate the intellectual in all of us.

I can't believe anybody actually likes ANYTHING on that station...ESPECIALLY X-Play. How can you guys actually stand those two human dildos that host the show? I still feel we may never get a "real" gamer's show...

Would you believe that Fastlane has been running on Court TV? To be honest, I never saw the show, but it was quickly cancelled. It doesn't deserve that kind of rerun abuse.
Brainiac looks somewhat interesting. It seems to be a British science show where they do experiments and whatnot. Another clip they showed had them putting steel wool and liquid oxygen in a microwave to see what would happen. But this seems like something that would have fit better on a TechTV late-night lineup.

Judgment Day and the Electric Playground are the only two shows on G4 I give a damn about.Sadly,G4 seems to be slowly but surely eliminating these shows.Hopefully, should that ever happen, maybe Victor Lucas`production company can make a deal with another, more succsessful U.S. network and keep those shows going here in the states.
Also, someone here mentioned that Tommy and Victor tend to kiss EA`s asses.Actually, they did crititize EA when they bought the NFL license, and also, in a review of MVP Baseball, they mentioned EA losing the MLB license to Take Two,with Tommy saying"You reap what you sow,EA"
