I went looking for a game show games thread, but alas, I really didn't want to sift through all 2500+ threads. But I don't remember it being posted before, so I think I might be starting something new.
I love game show video games, as chances are I'll never be a contestant on an actual game show. Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy!, Win, Lose or Draw!... I love them all. Especially when they have a video game made for them.
What are your favorite game show video games?
I love Jeopardy! on the NES, Wheel of Fortune on ANY platform, and even - gasp! - Hollywood Squares for the NES.

Twisted for 3DO is by far my favorite, followed by the You Don't Know Jack series on PS1. That being said, I really don't care for ports of actual TV gameshows.
You don't know Jack is the only one I've ever cared for. The rest are just too boring.

My friends and I would play You Don't Know Jack on someone's laptop in the cafeteria before classes in college.
Guess Smash TV doesn't count. :P

I used to love playing an old PC version of Wheel of Fortune. That's the only tv game show I feel has worked when computerized.
Twisted and Station Invasion for the 3DO are the best original ones I've played.

Double Dare was a cool game..but then again it was based on a cool game show.I regret that I sold it:(
My cousin actually beat the obstacle course...of course he used the NES Advantage with the slow-mo option

You Don't Know Jack! I can't believe I forgot about that one, I have about nine volumes of the series!
Thanks for the responses so far, anyone else care to chime in?

I thought Double Dare was a pretty shitty game considering that the show was so good.
"Remote Control" for the NES, based on the old MTV game show is pretty good. I agree about the Jeopardy games. Wheel of fortune was good too. Family Feud is OK as well. I'm only talking about NES games because I dont think I own game show-based games for any other systems.

I played the heck out of Monopoly for the NES. The way you had to auction unwanted property when you landed on it really sped the game up. Plus when one player went down you didnt have to do any math to split things up.

Monopoly and MTV's Remote Control are both good games for NES. Monopoly is 8-player by the way ... you have to pass the controller though. It's compatible with a 4-player adaptor and I've always wondered if with three 4-player adaptors could a person make the NES 8-player for Monopoly.

Regarding Monopoly, that's a board game, not a game show.
Anyways, I've enjoyed various Jeopardy! games, Wheel Of Fortune games, You Don't Know Jack!, and the Remote Control game on the NES. And I agree that the NES version of Double Dare sucked.

It is a board game, but they also turned it into a game show.

I also love You Don't Know Jack which was great fun...I have 10 computer versions plus both PS1 releases. Strangely enough, when they finally made it into an actual TV show, it was quite lame. I have two releases (many years apart) of Jeopardy...you need to play it on a computer, though, because entering in the answer, a letter at a time, on a game controller is a pain. I also like the PS1 version of The Weakest Link and the PC version of Millionaire isn't too bad.

If you have a 3DO and like Twisted, I highly recommend tracking down Zhagnost: The Peoples Party! It is my favorite game show type game and a 3DO hidden gem :)

I like the Jeopardy games (I have one of the SNES editions, and one of the PSX editions). And I could become a contestant if I actually went back into practice (12 years since retiring from génies en herbe/reach for the top has made me rather rusted). I was once selected for a test in Boston, but logistics (taking the day off, etc.) kept me from going. :(

Classic Con-cen-tration!
I loved the show, but only like the game.
Not enough puzzles.
Still, pretty decent for a NES game.

I've got both PlayStation Jeopardy games and have had a lot of fun with them. Get a multitap and go at it with three players just like the TV show! It's also more accessible to people who wouldn't necessarily appreciate fighting or shooting games (my usual versus favorites). Especially if they fancy themselves to be smarter than you are! LOL
I've also bought The Weakest Link for PlayStation, which I imagine would be an adequate substitute for Jeopardy, but I haven't had a chance to break it out for multiplayer versus play yet.

Chef's Luv Shack 8-) Ohhh yeah, suck on dem chocolate salty balls baby!
Yet honestly, my all time favorite, will have to be "CLUE" on Genesis and SNES.
I wish they made an upgrade to that

Man, you just hit on one of my warm & fuzzy spots. I love game show video games. All the Sharedata titles on the C64 (Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune, and Classic Concentration especially). Box Office Software made a nice High Rollers game as well.
I wish someone would have made a port of the Monopoly game show, it did play slightly differently from the TV show.
The You Don't Know Jack games are great, I still need 5th Dementia and the YDKJ 6 they sell on their site for the complete collection.

Heh. I did a review on that game in my blog. I thought it was horrible. lol I played the hell out of it, but... :embarrassed: yeah.
And I wish that some company could've made the live You Don't Know Jack! on a channel like Comedy Central, where they REALLY could've played the hell out of it. The show was really overly censored and dumbed down on prime-time, which just killed it.

Though someone here mentioned it (I must've missed it), I didn't find out until yesterday that there was another edition called You Don't Know Jack 6: The Lost Gold. I guess this came out in 2004. Apparently, you can only find it at Jellyvision's own website so I ordered my copy this morning. I even found a YDKJ message board last night and it was mentioned there that all the games there (at least the solo games) are 7-question ones. No more 21-question games? I always played the longer version. Oh well, I guess 7-question YDKJ is better than none at all.

The 21 question games went the way of the dodo I believe with #4: The Ride.
YDKJ 5 has 15 question games IIRC, I like playing the 7 question games (aka tournament length) more anyway. I need to get 6 eventually.

Fatal Rewind - aka The Killing Game Show - was awesome. Not really a game show in terms of gameplay, but a great action game nonetheless.
Strangely, I enjoyed Who Wants to Beat Up a Millionaire.

Double Dare was good but it was really hard to master some of the controls you had to use for the minigames

Until last night, I hadn't tried playing any of my old You Don't Know Jack games on my newer computer (which I got about a year ago). So I installed the "Movies" edition last night, had fun with it and so decided to install the rest of them today (including Headrush, kind of a YDKJ for younger people). I had trouble with two editions...one was 5th Dementia but I found a YDKJ message board which gave me the way to correct that problem. The one I still can't play, though, is the "Sports" edition. I guess it has issues with Windows XP. I could probably get a more recent copy which was corrected to work with WXP...but I don't think I like the game enough to buy it again, especially not for $28.
It's not really a classic game and isn't based on a real gameshow, but the Buzz titles are quie amusing when playing them with some friends.

I haven't tried PlayStation's Family Feud yet, but I'm amazed at how well it's held it's value.

Has anybody mentioned The Weakest Link? That was made for the PS1 and for the PC...I have the PS1 version and have enjoyed that. It features some live bits of Anne Robinson and her voice though she doesn't read the questions...you have to do that yourself.

I received my copy of You Don't Know Jack 6: The Lost Gold today. As I'd heard, it has a few changes including only 7 questions a game (the last question always being the "Jack Attack" speed round). Also, it says it has "over 300 ALL NEW questions"...well, that's not all that many questions considering that some editions have 800 or more. I wonder how long it'll be before I start getting questions I've answered before...
Has there been a Family Feud game for the PC? And will we ever see a Price Is Right game?

Although I think its only a Pal release Buzz: The Big Quizz
and Buzz: The Music quizz for the PS2 is the ultimate quizz
show game, Sony had a real winner here, its a must check out IMO.

One thing I've wondered off and on...can my computer here in the U.S. play a British CD-Rom? I've thought of getting one of the foreign versions of You Don't Know Jack. It wouldn't do me any good to get the German versions, for instance, because of the language but could a UK version work on my system?

Not based on a real game show but Bart vs The Juggernauts for GB was probably my favorite Simpsons title. Aside from that, Remote Control for NES and Wheel of Fortune for Tiger's Game.Com (honestly, the perfect type of game for that portable).
