This game got very little love when it was released in 1998.
Playing this game is sort of like playing a combination of
Stun Runner mixed with Starfox. Basically your mission is
to fly through a magical psychedelic cave which infinatly
loops, killing insects while listening to almost the entire
crystal method "vegas" cd, one of the greatest
techno/trance albums of all time. The music just continues
on and on seemlessly and it totally fits the mood.

I wanted to take a moment just to let any of my DP
buddies who HAVEN'T played this yet know that for 10-15$
you can own a truly unique gaming experience. If you are a
shooter fan and haven't tried this yet GET IT NOW I
promise you won't be sorry.

I most certainly agree with most everything stated.

This is a GREAT game and VERY underrated. I disagree with the price. The game is so underrated and overlooked that it is DIRT CHEAP almost everywhere. I snagged mine at EB for a whopping $2, and it is definitely worth every penny and then some.

N20 was it? The way you make it out gameplay wise, it reminds me of another game in that vein of rail shooter.

Space Debris.

The soundtrack still kicksass, I remember during summer of 99', me and my cousin in Austin, played that game to death. Very solid title and certainly a lost treasure/underdog

This is my favorite PSX game of all time. SMall correction though - the entire Vegas album is not included. A couple tracks are missing, and 3-4 are remixes rather than the album versions.

I was aware of that I just was being kind of brisk in my explaination. Still, the music simply rocks and should be be blasted as you shoot insects!!!!

Refresh my memory...was this one of the few games that supported the "custom soundtrack?"

eg load game, swap game disc with music cd of your choice

I vaguely remember hearing something about that, but never tried it myself.

Agreed, this was one of the best PlayStation games ever released although I'm probably one of the few people that bought it at release. (although I remember paying only $30 for it the day after it came out) The comparison to S.T.U.N. Runner is dead on, it's like S.T.U.N. Runner meets Tempest with a very unique art style. Presentation alone is reason to check out this game. From the ONE loading screen, to the menus, to the level intros and pop-up in-game tutorials - Nitrous Oxide is one of the most beautiful PS games from start to finish.

It's tempest with trippy graphics and Crystal Method.

Fun to watch, but gets really repetitive. I bought it for $3 at Gamestop, it's worth that at least.

And you can listen to the cd by itself!

I picked it up a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't really like it. I'm not a fan of psychedelic colours I guess ^^ Only played it once so far though. Reminds me a lot of Tempest 2000, which I liked better :)

The programmer was one Tony Crowther... a familiar name to C64 fans in the 80s with such titles as Wanted: Monty Mole, Loco, Kettle, Trap and William Wobbler.

He was also friends with Jeff Minter, which probably explains some of the graphical pyrotechnics.

An EXCELLENT choice, N2O is one of my favorite PSX games as well. Think "Atari Tempest meets Crystal Method". The visuals are nice and trippy and you can pop the CD out of your PlayStation and directly into your CD player and hear Crystal Method's best album, "Vegas".

Clearly underrated, I'm glad to see someone call this game out.
