I have a question about the differences in the Japanese and American releases of this game.
I know that in Japan, there was SFIII Scenario 1, 2, and 3. But here in the U.S. there was just SFIII.
Was the U.S. release all three scenarios in one? Or was it just Scenario 1 and we didn't get the other two? Thanks for your help! :)

Sadly, it was just the first scenerio. Apparently if you've played the US version and are familiar with the menu setups and whatnot then the second and third scenerios aren't that difficult to get into, despite the language barrier. There's translations out for all of the text, too..
...hopefully someone will get around to actually patching the games, especially since Saturn emulation is at such an awesomely playable state now.

On a related note: Playing Shining the Holy Ark before SF III makes the story more complete. It's very cool how they're both related.

Also the ending to the US version has been changed, giving you little to no indication that there are 2 other scenarios

Hmm... apparently the US version is somewhat hard to find? And it looks like Scenario 2 is rather expensive as well. Though Scenario 1 and 3 seem relatively cheap.

There's also a premium disk that goes with the set, it has character models extra battles etc. I've also heard that the ending was changed in the US version to make it sound more finished (I can't tell you for sure because my ability to read kanji isn't good enough to read the ending), also I've heard that you can't kill the collosus in the English version but you can in the Japanese (I haven't tried that myself). If you haven't played SF3 and you can't read Japanese, I'd recomend buying the US release of SF3. If it turns out you like it, and want to play the rest of the series, the Japanese scenerios will accept the US data so you're not out anything and it's a lot easier than reading a printed copy. Even though they're somewhat expensive, it's a great game that is completely possible to play in English in it's entirety thanks to the translations that have been done. It's too bad Sega didn't give us the rest of the series, I miss SF.

Yes there are 3 different scenarios and the Englsih versions are just one with an alternative ending. The premium disc was for everybody who bought all three games and send in the spinecards for the Premium Disc. The Premium disc was even available for non-Japanese fans of Shining Force by sending in the two spinecards and by cutting out your UPS-code from the box and sending it to Sega.
I think it's sad the other scenerios were not released in the West, on the other hand and with the minor market share Sega hd back then I think it was the best way to go for them, also it's a praise to them that they understood back then that a lot of people bought the other parts as import and also offered these gamers the Permium disc.
I hope one day Sega will release a collection of all the Shining Force games for a next gen system.

Somewhat, yes. But nothing too scarce where you gotta worry about getting a copy ASAP.
Its going rate is around 70-80
