hello all,
went out to a friends today and low and behold he had some stuff (video game wise) to sell me.

anyway, i'm having trouble identifying this atari i bought from him. he's totally not the type of guy to rip me off, and he wouldn't know that much about video games to change the sticker underneath the unit.

i first believed it was an original heavy sixer, when both the box and sticker underneath the unit read 'made in sunnyvale CA, USA' but the thing that has me going is that the side panels on the unit aren't thick as others i've seen (like the unit displayed on the original box).

without crapping on, i've taken pics but can't show them. if somebody can host them for me, i'd appreciate it. please either PM me or email me at jriddell15@hotmail.com

if somebody knows straight up, please lmk. it's not like i spent the earth on it, but would like to know. i also live in australia, so the system would be PAL if that helps any.

any help appreciated...

Take a look at the pictures over here (http://www.atariage.com/2600/archives/consoles.html). The main thing to notice is the front corners. On the Heavy Sixer, the corner is much more curved, and nothing covers the woodgain. On a regular 6-switch, the corner is not curved, and there's a lip that covers the very edge of the woodgrain.

Another way to tell, which is not obvious by the pictures at AtariAge, is also by looking at the front woodgrain. On the Heavy Sixer, the bottom of the woodgrain has a slight curve to it (hold the system almost sideways and it's easy to see), while the regular 6-switch overlaps part of the woodgrain so it appears to be straight at the bottom.

Huh... that's odd... The system itself definitely isn't a Heavy Sixer. I guess not all Sunnyvale models are Heavy Sixer's after all.

thanks for the heads-up, Zero. and niku-sama -- thank you so much for hosting the pics. it says in that atari-age article that MOST of the 2nd release woody 6ers were made in HK...not all of them. would this make my example a variant of some note?

i've looked on the box for the matching serial number...where is it found usually?

Correct. And, despite what most people say, not all Heavy Sixers were made in Sunnyvale! (Some were made in Hong Kong.)

My experience has been that most collectors only care about Sunnyvale Heavy Sixers. I guess if you were hardcore into collecting console variations it would be of interest.

The serial number was printed on a sticker. Maybe it fell off?
