On my lunch break on Thursday I decide to stop at my local Goodwill on a hunch that there might be something good in. I was in the store no less then 15 seconds when they jumped out at me. Games. NES Games. A whole stack of them with a big price tag on the table saying "ALL GAMES $1.00 EACH." All of this right in the front of the store.

Jackpot. The first title my eyes lead to is Dragon Warrior II. Inside the dust jacket are the instructions and map. Practically mint. I scan the other games and start shoveling games into my basket as already there are people noticing me looking through them. Here's what I ended up with. Everything was a buck each:

Dragon Warrior 2
Zelda 2
Crystalis
Soltice
Tetris
Where's Waldo
Dragon Warrior
Demon Sword
Star Tropics 2
Dragon Spirit
Super Mario Duck Hunt
A zapper gun
2 NES controllers in the box

13 bucks for the lot. Not bad, right? Damn, I figured this was a hell of a day already. But no! I decide to stop at a weekly estate auction after dinner. Lo and behold what do I see on the second aisle? A freakin' toploader with a dogbone controller.

So I sat there and waited 30 minutes for the auctioneer to make his way down the aisle and finally I got the toploader for 6 bucks.

Sweet! So for $19.00 here was the haul for the day:

^^^^niiiiiiiice. (woops, the one above that with the toploader)

Sorry if this post seems a waste of space but some people were complaining they weren't being acknowledged for good finds.

Hit a rummage on the way to the store...found a few common SNES games for $1 each, and an unusual handheld set in a baggie for $1.

http://img303.imageshack.us/img303/9767/dsc010557kz.jpg

The unit is about the size of an Ipod, with 10 different snap in LCD game/screens that all have nearly identical gameplay (if you can call it that). With only left and right control buttons, all games are variations on the theme of "avoid the crap slowly coming down the screen." Still for a buck, hard to go wrong. Anyone know anything about this thing?...no names or dates on any of the pieces.

Some good finds already.. I would be happy with any of those, a PAL Flintstones CIB.. NICE!! A Dragon Warrior II at a thrift store.. WOW! And those handhelds, if they are vintage, that's a great deal you got! And yes, those pictures definately made your hauls look great!! :)

As for me, I haven't gone game hunting in a few weeks but I hope to go tomorrow and be able to find some good stuff. I am negotiating with a local collector about a 1000 dollar deal, but who knows how far we will get with that.

Heh, I think I was at that exact same garage sale, because I remember seeing those exact games for those prices. You live on Long island, right? Did that same sale have a buncha PS1 games (scooby-doo, hello kitty, etc) and a copy of PS2 rygar? That's cool...guess I got a rival in my area!

Anyways, at that sale I got a copy of Malice for PS2 and Threads of Fate for PS1, both complete, $7 total.

Went to EB Games today (Trying to get s-video cables for my SNES and N64) and got:

Midway's Greatest Hits (GBA) for $7.99 (loose)
Crazy Taxi 2 (DC) for $9.99 (has instructions but no back cover)
Ecco The Dolphin: Defender Of The Future (DC) for $7.99 (just disc)
R.C. Pro Am (NES) for free (would have been $5.99 but took advantage of their buy 3 pre played get one free sale...also knock off 10% off the prices for having my edge card)

Not a really impressive find like some of the others have found already but considering the Dreamcast games have been two items I've been hoping to find for a while...I'm happy.

Flea Market find. Sega Cd system $2.

Videogamerdaryll
08-13-2005, 01:50 PM
What I spent:..
$30.00 Cabinet
$5.00 Cooler/for track
$25.00 for all the Gameboy stuff from diifernt vendors Black Gameboy in that Pic.
Flintstones NES cart. $7.00
SNES Wario Woods $1.00
Namco Mrs. Pac Man TV Plug and Play Game $5.00

Edit: Forgot about the two Coca Cola Light sets I bought my wife for $5.00 each.
And when I went to throw out all the plastic bags from the stuff today I found another GBC Rugrat Game in the bag(Rugrats in Paris The movie)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/Chris1/2005_0813_143328AA.jpg

I got home from the flea market around 11am....I went early..I actually bought a really nice(new) cabinet for my kitchen there..Exactly the piece I've been looking for..(A first for me at a Flea Market)$30.00

Bought my Wife a Giant Coca Cola Cooler Shaped like a Can....$5.00 :D

Today was a Gameboy day as that's all I really got in gaming besides a Flintstones NES cart.(The Flintstones Rescue Of Dino And Happy.)at $7.00 as I don't own it...It was amongst a ton of other $8.00 NES carts....There was lots to buy but the prices were to high..and today was the hottest day yet, plus I didn't sleep all night so that took a toll on me.. x_x .$40.00 for loose SNES systems,$50.00 for trashed boxed N64 system. :eek 2: @_@ .I think the heat got to there peoples heads today..
There wasn't as many vendors as there usually is due to the heat and some were packing up early at 10:30
I missed out but actually didn't miss out on a large $335.00 Yellow Pocket Bike as I don't know what to call the big versions with the lights and mirrors..It was twice if not three times the size of my Pocket Bike.
I cannot ride this at the track so it does me no good and it's really to big to do anything with..It's just to big for my likings..The tires were big, wide, all season..
As I got there I was buying some Coca cola lights from this vendor I know who lives not far from me..He went across to the first isle and bought the bike for $95.00..A steal if it runs,as he did not try it yet..The Flaring was all in a big box and may have been cracked up though the bike looked fine with it all off.
I watched as he brings it back to his stuff, table in a SCORE!! Scurry....He bought it for someone in his family(kid) but was willing to sell it to me(knows me) for what he paid..I passed though a steal as I can't do anything with it..
Even if I sold it on Ebay it would be murder to ship..And If I would of found it first I would of passed.
I didn't even suggest my dad buy it as it would do no good for either of us..If it was my bikes size I would of bought it in a Flash..
My goal today was to buy another Pocket Bike hoping to find one at the flea Market today..I called the Vendor who sells them at 7:30 Am and they weren't going to the flea Market today,so that was out unless I found someone else with them..I didn't even go into the new stuff isles as It was to hot.

I came home in an itch to ride and took out my Pocket Bike and today for around half an hour.. :)
It's fast,I just have to get the idle down a little but I fixed the throttle last night to give me more turn..
It's just totally dead around here today..
..Man was it fun,but I had my fill..I'm going next week to the track but for a lesser romp then I had planned as it's too(...) hot to wear all the equipment..I'm going to go take a ride on the track, pack up and go to the flea market..I'll go to ride more during the colder times..Say Late Sept/Nov,Jan....If I had the coat and helmet on today I'd have a heat stroke..It's way to hot around here.. :(

I don't usually post my finds, but I was pretty jazzed about this one.

I got a minty original Game Boy, the link cable, the original headphones, and the folloing games all loose but minty in their clamshell cases:

Tetris
Super Mario Land
Baseball
Tennis
Golf
Championship pool
Double Drible 5 on 5
4 in 1 Fun Pak volume 1 with ins.

All in an official carrying case

All for $5

I thought it was pretty sweet. I don't have an original Game Boy at the moment. Someone wanted to trade me straight up for my old one, for a minty complete copy of Dragon Warrior 7. That's kindof a no-brainer I would say.

I was in a game store and got an NES Honyu Explorer-I in its original box. It was on top of the shelves, about 9 feet in the air.. so I went to jump and grab it in excitement and it fell on my head because it weighed a lot more than I anticipated.. As soon as I got out to my car I immeadietly ripped the box open to see what the hell weighed so much and to my delight there was another Explorer-I stuffed inside.. I got 2 Explorer-I's and a box for $5.00 and a bruise on my forehead!!! Not a bad deal!

Well, with what little cash I had left in my wallet I headed to a few places today. I've basically not found anything worthwhile on the console at my local places in ages, so I've started collecting pc games. At Saver's I had one of the best finds I've had in some time:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20/hellvin/80130021.jpg

Lucasarts Adventure Collection

This comes with absolutely everything. The large journal guide / instruction book, an individual hint guide for each game, a couple of phamphlets and all of the diskettes. I was really happy to find this since my old copy which was the 5 1/4 version, was missing the first disk...not to mention I don't want to install a 5 1/4 drive in the pc.

The hot girl at the counter only rung it up for 1.50, so that was quite excellent ;D.

And at Bookman's:

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20/hellvin/80130011.jpg

PC - Arcanum - 8
PC - Longest Journey - 8

Longest Journey is supposed to be REALLY good so that will be fun to try out.

I've played a rom of the megadrive one. If that's anything to go by, it's just like the books where you look for different things.

We've had some really good finds this weekend.

Not me though. I just picked up Harvest Moon (GCN) for £12 then when I got home found out it takes up 47 blocks on the memory card. I only had 46 blocks free. So I went rounds my friend's house and bought a 59 bock memory card for £5. He's trying to sell all his Gamecube stuff but he won't sell me XIII which is a good game. Well the local shop had it for £5 on gamecube and £4 on PS2, so I think I'll go get one when I've got a bit more money.

The other day I traded some stuff in and got some megadrive games, all complete.

- 2 Atari 2600s, one was the "promotional use only" variety
along with about 50 games - $10

- Mint Final Fantasy Tactics (GH version) and Vs. (An R5 I think) - $10

And this is why I love working at Blockbuster:

- a mispriced Xbox Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 - $16
- PSX Ogre Battle Limited Edition - $5

I almost felt bad because I don't even own an Xbox. Then I remembered that Blockbuster is - most of the time - the devil incarnate. To Ebay it goes!
The woman who traded Ogre Battle in also tried to trade a Genesis with NES hookups. It made me not feel to bad to only give her one dollar for Ogre Battle. Also, anyone know how much rarer the "promotional use only" 2600 is than an original?

Decent weekend. First, got a package from fellow DPer Kitsune Sniper that had a few original Gameboy games in it:

Batman: the Animated Series
Dr. Franken
Riddick Bowe Boxing
Top Rank Tennis

Went on Saturday to E.B. Games and they're having a buy 3 get 1 free sale on some of their games (not sure if it's all of them or just for certain systems or purely used games). Anyway, ended up picking up 8 sports games for the N64 for $9.23 (2 games free plus 10% off with EB Edge card).

Finally, was at Walmart today (grocery shopping) and noticed these little cheesy handheld games made by a company called Techno Source. There were six different games (racing, soccer, tennis, football, basketball, & skateboarding). I wouldn't have picked them up except for the fact that they were only $1/each. Too cheap to pass up.

Cauterize: hopefully some of those are in good shape despite being rubber banded. If you don't collect them, weed out the good stuff and sell it. Some Pokemon collectors have deep pockets... heh. I know better than most since I was one of them.

Excellent finds, everyone... they put my cheap ass Last Blade 2 to shame...

Lunar 2 shirts. :-P gonna trade one?

Hey Cauterize, let me know if you find any good Pokemon cards you're willing to part with in that box. You know I'd be more than interested. :D

Anyway, onto my finds... I actually did very well today, after about a month of a dry spell and despite it being a Sunday... I decided to check out the local dirt mall and see what I could scrounge up. It was actually pretty decent today...
http://www.rydia.net/joshnickerson/dp/wke0814a.jpg

Dr. Mario 64 - $10
Mario Tennis 64 - $7
Megaman X - $5
Gauntlet - $2

Then I decided to check out another dirt mall I had discovered about half an hour away. At first I thought it was rather lame, but I quickly discovered it was a hotbed of gaming goodness, with about a dozen stalls dedicated to old games. Sadly, most of it was overpriced (I'm sorry, I refuse to fork over $15 for a loose copy of Donkey Kong for the NES), but I did find some rather good deals.
http://www.rydia.net/joshnickerson/dp/wke0814b.jpg

Bomberman 64 - $7
Ice Climber - $3
Duck Tales - $3
Gyromite (complete!) - $8
Zero the Kamikazi Squirrel (R7!!!!!!) sans manual - $15

The last three I found at what is quite possibly the greatest dirt mall game shop I'd ever visited. Hell, they even had import Super Famicom stuff! I even saw a ROB unit, which I had never seen in person before, but upon asking for the price, the clerk (an uber cute gamer girl) said it was hers and not for sale. I guess it was the store mascot or something. I'll be going back there for sure (and not just for the games ;) )

Cauterize: hopefully some of those are in good shape despite being rubber banded. If you don't collect them, weed out the good stuff and sell it. Some Pokemon collectors have deep pockets... heh. I know better than most since I was one of them.

Sure is an Investment, hopefully a great one!
All in all im pretty sure there are a few thousand cards in here, however there was about 10 rares (the guy told me he took them out anyways)
The rubber band has hardly affected them and all in all there in great condition

"Why buy them without rares" i hear you scream at me as if im thick as wood... hear me out here!

Within here are what i am gonna call "Starter bundles"...
Basically all the Commons and Uncommons for various sets...

For example, i went through the Fossil ones, and i have about 5 sets of all the common and uncommons bundled together, 12 sets of all the commons bundled, and a nice big wad of random ones...

I was gonna sell the common + Uncommon bundles for £3-4
The common bundles for £1
and the huge stack of randoms for something reasonable...

So if my plan works, i will make £30+ for just the fossil bundles!

Therefore i can easily get my money back (well i hope so!)

Also, yeah i do collect slightly, i used to be mad on them as a kid, now i just wanna finish the collections i started back then, which i managed to do a few weeks ago!
Now what i cant decide is to collect more sets further on, as i have all the commons and uncommons for them now.. jsut rares to go (But there is just too many sets out now!)

Also hidden inside were some Yugioh (Cant spell it) cards, which totally arent my thing, so ill just 'Bay them!

Hey Cauterize, let me know if you find any good Pokemon cards you're willing to part with in that box. You know I'd be more than interested. :D

As mentioned above... Nothing grand in here, purely a BIG Investment

However, lol, there are these 2 fake ones a "Grass Alakazam" and a "Mew" (Grass Alakazam!?!? god knows why)
These two are powerful as helll, lol the Mew has 1500hp, as apposed to the usual 30hp...

And uber congrats on gettin Zero for Snes!

Flight Of The Amazon Queen is absolutely amazing IMO, one of the best Point n Clicks i ever played...
One with an actual cheat mode in too, you can warp to rooms and so on (IIRC i did this once and ended up in a room you couldnt get out off....!)

And Full Throttle, hell yeah! Those 2 copies i got today are actually both for resale as i already own it!
Another great Point n Click, however IMO tiem forgot this one and its not too well know, definately worth checking out!

Thanks for the comments guys! Seems like weve all had a great weekend!

How is Flight of the Amazon Queen? I've never tried it before.

I'm an adventure fan, and I thought it was quite good. Not as good as Legend of Kyrandia II (my favorite), though.

Anyway, I didn't go shopping this week, but I've finally tried all the NES games I bought last week (remember that?). Out of the 68 games that I added to my collection (including two doubles, d'oh), there are a few rarer titles, including:

Formula One: Built to Win (R5)
Palamedes (R5)
Videomation (R5)

The Adventures of Rad Gravity (R4)
Burai Fighter (R4)
Capcom's Gold Medal Challenge '92 (R4)
F-15 City War (R4)
Kabuki Quantum Fighter (R4)
Kick Master (R4)
Klash Ball (R4)
Rock 'n Ball (R4)
Skull & Crossbones (R4)
Stanley: The Search For Dr. Livingston (R4)

I discovered a few games that I recommend to all of you: Formula One: Built to Win (see my quasi-review from last week), Kabuki Quantum Fighter, Kick Master, Shatterhand, Zanac.

Shatterhand is especially good, and should be mentioned among the likes of Ninja Gaiden. Perhaps the awful cover art scared people away from trying it...

First off Flea Market
Bag of 25 TI-99/4A games Thursday night $5
In the box there was an R8 TYPO II, and then 4 R6, and

The TYPO II i must have priced too cheap as someone BIN'd

I sold the other 5 games for a total of $85, so $135 for
6 games with 2 more still on ebay. I am keeping the other
17 games and have a system coming in the mail to play
them.

At same flea market 6 r3-r5 atari games for $3, sold for $15

Bah, slow weekend for meh. Hit the thrift in the city that my parents live in and picked up 2600 Fast Food cart for .25 cents. Funny thing is, this is the same thrift I picked up like 60 2600 games about a year ago for .25 cents each. When I originally bought the 60, I left the ones with really rough labels there. Well, they were STILL there when I went back there on Saturday. I guess I missed the Fast Food one on the first trip...

$350 for Mr. Gimmick, most I ever payed for 1 single game hehe. But I know it have gone for over $500 on ebay before so thats why I bought it for that price. So if I decide to sell it I get what I payed back and maybe even more.

Complete Flintstones 2 was only like $25 :)

At Goodwill, picked up Lost Vikings for Genesis CIB as well as a Dragon Ball Z: Buyuu Retsuden JP import for the Mega Drive.

I can't find anything out about the DBZ game, DP only lists it as not available in the US. I can't imagine anything with that licence is too rare, but for a bone fiddy it was a decent pick up. :)

Also found, at the same store, 2 Get Fuzzy collections and a couple of hardcover humour titles (by Ellen Degeneres and Dave Barry).

The guides were $1 each. There are two more sega cd games in there, even though I do not own a sega cd >_< I gotta stop doing that.

The N64 system and games, as well as the PSones system and games were part of a birthday present from my friends who no longer play them. They also gave me a tall stack of NES games a while back and took me thrifting all day to find the stuff on this table. Best present evar.
