View Full Version : Nam-1975 censorship - let's get to the bottom of this
OK, on nearly half of the boxes of this first generation Neo-Geo game, the girl has her cleavage and top leg blacked off by marker. And it's not like she's nude or anything. She has on a skirt, and a tank top. Not skimpy at all. Here's two examples:

Copies sold or intended for sale in certain European countries were marked up to avoid any problems with local authorities. Telegames seemed to have a lot of them and recently dumped them on Ebay and by selling them to Neo-Geo.com among other sites. I agree it seems like overkill, but remember this game came out over a decade ago, long before the GTAs and other mature titles.

He it's a SNK product, and the never controlled anything before, look to the spellingmistakes in games and even on labels and covers. Do you think they thought about a new cover. On the other hand it wouldn't surprise me if some distributor did this, maybe they came from the middle-east or something?.

Censoring the leg seems crazy to you, but consider that censoring breasts seems crazy to many European countries.
To many puritanical countries where fundamentalist Islamic ideals dictate the ways of the land, to NOT censor a woman's face - much less her arm or leg - is downright outrageous.

Which Euro countries censored it? Usually, those countries are far more liberal in regards to sex then the US, and it wasn't censored here at all.

I heard Germany's sensorship laws got Castlevania Bloodlines and the Contra series sensored, but I've never heard of any sensoring of legs or cleavage.

Game Play
You can pick up more powerful weapons like machine guns and flame throwers. If you run while pressing down, you will do a sommersault and be invincible for a second. Enemies and scenery give up point icons and grenades. You cannot continue while fighting the last boss. The bosses are not the same every play.

Umm...what was the point of that? I think we all know what NAM 1975 is about. That's not at issue here.
