One of my friends in Arlington, TX has claimed they have been selling "Metal Slug" T-Shirts that say "ROLL OUT"
and also, Capcom Vs. SNK 2 action figures are sold there as well.

Fuck you very much SNK, or whatever's left of you. Fuck you very much for selling out to corporate alternativism. Fuck you very much for selling out to the emos and the goths. Fuck you oh so very much.

Great! Now maybe I can get the rest of the MS MVS carts I need dirt cheap!
Can they start loving on Cave shmups too? I'd love to pick up a few PCBs, but they're out of my price range. ;)

I'm really surprised to hear that Metal Slug has shirts now, but Hot Topic is hardly the trendy place it used to be. I never see their recent game shirts on anybody, and the only ones that were ever so overdone that they werent cool were the Mario+mushroom=supermario, and the "dont make me go zelda on you" shirts.
Oh yeah, and they have had sonic shirts for a while...and I have seen a whole lot more Sonic shirts in department stores (I think Macy's).
Oh, and in case you couldn't tell, I buy video game shirts from Hot Topic (Even though I hate the rest of the store), but it is mainly because I collect game shirts and that is a good source for them. Of my 42 game related shirts, I think around 15 are from HT.

I think my love for metal slug out weighs the Unclean feeling I would get from going into a hot topic and buying some Metal Slug Tee Goodness.
BTW why the heck does it say roll out? is it refering to when the charecter jumps out his slug/camel/harrier?

Capcom figures I've seen there a few times, Metal Slug's new to me, should least see if the shirts look decent enough.

I really don't understand this "if it's popular, it sucks" attitude. It's with everything from music to movies to games. They're out to make money. If they're doing that and making games you love, why do you care?

I don't understand some of you guys.
You love SNK games because they are underrated and do not get enough attention and yet as soon as Metal Slug get SOME of the respect it deserves. Everyones saying "BUT OH NOES $NK ARE SELL OUTS!!! OMG!!!" You must understand that liscensing fees for SNK = profit for company = more money for game development. If you honestly care about SNK as a game manufacturer and developer than you should welcome this.
Also at least they are not selling Halo/GTA shirts.

The hardest of the hardcore will rarely ever turn a profit, don't you know that? It's like how the greatest people in history never died of old age, same concept. LOL
I'm frusterated at Hot Topic, not because they carry gaming t-shirts, but because so many of the people who wear them don't even know what they're from. I had a buddy who had what he thought was a Space Invaders shirt, and HE tried to convince ME it was from SI.
Him: "Dude, it's Space Invaders!"
Me: "Dude, it's ATARI FOOTBALL, you moron."
Him: -silence-
It offends me that so many people wear t-shirts symbolizing games from "back in the day" that they never played. Or heard of. Or seen in a real, physical form. And then they call people like me posers because I don't have those shirts. Most of my gaming shirts I got from CGE, and they call me a poser.
So I laugh. And curse them behind their backs.

Hot Topic had to have gotten the liscensing or else they would not quote "Metal Slug - Super Vehicle 001". Hot Topic is not that stupid they know the lawsuits that would follow. Well the typical liscensing for a shirt is around $2-3 per shirt. So for every 100,000 dumbass EMOs that wander into Hot Topic saying "OMG, That's totally making fun of Ludacris" and pull out mommy or daddy's credit card to buy that Metal slug shirt that's $200-300k for SNKPlaymore to survive and develop MORE AMAZING SNK GAMES FOR YOU.

You lose that bet.

BUZZ! Nope, Hot Topic has nothing to do with licensing. Hot Topic is a retailer. All they do is send their buyers around to different manufacturers who produce shirts and other crap. The manufacturers of the shirts are the ones who buy the license.
Well the typical liscensing for a shirt is around $2-3 per shirt.
You made that up, didn't you. LOL Licenseing isn't a "per item" fee, it's a flat fee, up front, usually with a percentage of all sales on the back end.
My seven zenny.
And to echo the sentiments of others who already posted the same thing... come on. You bought the games, but you're too good to buy the shirt? The games weren't free, why get your panties in a bunch when they try to make a few extra bucks off of other non-game related items. And if you don't like the shirts, don't buy 'em. Sweet jeebus.@_@

Maybe I should have explained my self more. Hot Topic can NOT sell unlisensed shirts in the store without facing serious lawsuits. They must buy product from liscense given manufacturers.
You made that up, didn't you. Laughing Licenseing isn't a "per item" fee, it's a flat fee, up front, usually with a percentage of all sales on the back end.
Well, actually my parents way back in the day owned a t-shirt screen printing and heat transfer buisness and usually liscensed shirts cost about $2-3 more to make. They never had game shirts but they did have music and sports. Thats where I got the number, although inflation may affect it a bit. I also understand that manufacturers and retailers work out percentage deals. I never had intentions of presenting my numbers as facts... but instead as estimates to prove a point.

Regardless of where it's being sold, how much the licensing costs, and how cool or uncool it may be for someone to make a few bucks off a Metal Slug shirt marketed to some emo/trendy punk kids - the real issue here is how bad that shirt looks. :puke:

I'd love to pick up a GTA3 t-shirt. Hell, even something subtle and "cool" like a Uniracers or Lemmings shirt would be nice to show some round-about support for ol' Rockstar North.
I don't care how popular thier games have become, I'll always love them for churning out a mountain of awesomeness over the years.

Hot Topic is fake alternative retro that tries to be cool. I don't think SNK is selling out because of these shirts. SNK sold out because they partnered with Hot Topic, a flaming pile of shit.

OMFG!
Quick question, how many of you getting your knickers in a twist about "SNK SOLD OUT!!!1!!!" actually own Metal Slug games? Not "I've got the ROM" but you actually have the fucking cart?
Man, I love it when videogame collectors try to get all snobby and ellitist. Sheesh! This hobby is nerdy enough as it is. There's just something about all that that seems even nerdier.
Also, unless Hot Topix is actually making the shirts (which I don't think they do, do they?) everybody is looking really silly whining about how SNK "partnered" with or "sold-out" to Hot Topix. I'm guessing someone licensed the design and a buyer for HT saw the shirts and bought them.
AND SO FUCKING WHAT????
Maybe it's an age thing, as I'm assuming all y'all getting upset are younger than me, but I just don't care about shit like this anymore. I think it's great that SNK, who always seem to be teetering on the brink of economic disaster, gets to put some easy money in their pocket. I never got into gaming to be different or hip or whatever it is that makes the idea of these shirts being at a chain store so disturbing to you people. I love these games, and anything that raises their visibility is a plus in my eyes.
And I'm dead serious. If it's all ruined for you now, PM me and I'll take any of those nasty old MVS carts off people's hands. Because we all know the goth and emo kids are going to rush right out and buy Neo Geos now, so you might as well get out while you can.

Wha??
Hot Topic is a retail store that buys merchandise from wholesalers and then resells it with a markup for profit.
Also, as I mentioned earlier, SNK didn't partner with Hot Topic. They worked out a licensing deal with an apparel company. The apparel company then sold their shirts to Hot Topic. That's not a partnership either, they sold shirts to a retail store.
@ the haters: if you hate Hot Topic, so be it. It doesn't make sense to me that you hate them because they're "fake" (??!!) though. I could understand you disliking Hot Topic because of their shitty customer service, or the horrible smell in the store, or bad lighting and loud music, but just because they sell a Metal Slug shirt? Whassup with that? @_@ I guess it was better two weeks ago when you were the only people on the planet that ever heard of and/or played Metal Slug.
PS - what is this Metal Slug? :P

This is a crying shame....and I blame myself for sharing this now...I wanted to share something interesting that was found....yet it turned into a battle....I don't care about Hot Topic...all I cared about was the fact that there is a Metal Slug related item out there...if it was action figures...yeah I would state it...Yet it's a crazy world we are living in, and I just can't understand this twist of what a treasure can turn the hate of people sometimes...I'm sick and tired of the fights, but that's the way people handle things, so there's really nothing we can do, everyone has a good opinion. You give them a prize and something is wrong instantly it seems though.
Over what? Over Hot Topic...a company owned by "GAP Inc" btw. If they sold this at Kohl's...would it be different then perhaps? Would it ease the pain and frustration?
Who can tell what is the right way, and Im just giving my love to this forum and I simply wanted to share. Yet after this, I don't know what to think of some of you guys. I'm not gonna blame you at all or get upset, just honestly disappointed by some of your reactions. Quite shocking to be honest :(

Not that i condone anyones reactions....but you'd think that Nintendo shirts being sold at places like Target would far more detrimental to your beloved hobby than a Metal Slug shirt.
So, by being anti-antitrendy, I can be cooler than the antitrendy kids wearing emo glasses AND the trendy kids with the faux hawks? Or is antitrendy the new trendy? What happens when it becomes cool to be anti-antitrendy? Do I have to become anti-antiantiitrendy to keep up? Am I not tru and authentic anymore, if I change just to sneer at the cool kids? What if I like wearing glasses with thick frames and black shirts because they look good on me?
