for those of you who collect for the sake of $$$, you might understand where i'm coming from. i'm sure the guys who collect stamps don't mail letters anymore than they normally would because of their item's usage. i know some of you no longer have the time/patience to play what you own, but do any of the dp members dislike gaming and only find to resell?

I've still not convinced videogames are a good speculative investement. Short of finding Air Raid in the wild, I just don't see how someone could make big money in this hobby.

At this time, anyway.

a good way for videogame investment is keeping RPG's sealed, especialy atlus and square enix ones.

Pay $50, and it turns into $300

I wouldn't say that I'm into video games for money, but if you know where to look, and have the ability to fix them, arcade games can definately be a decent money making Hobby. I'm not so sure about making it a whole business, but I can't say that I've never gone to an auction and bought an extra game or two because I still had room in the truck and it was cheap and I knew that I could resell it and make enough money off it to pay for the truck rental and gas, and sometimes even more ;) .

I mean, just last week I sold a Mortal Kombat 2 machine for $860! That was in a lot that I paid $700 for 8 games, one being Ms. Pac, another was Q*Bert, then some other mediocre games. They were all pretty much non-working when I got them, but none of them were especially hard fixes, I just fixed them, did a little bit of cleanup/maintenence, played them for a while, then sold off a few when I got bored of them.

That's the thing about arcade collecting though... I hate selling the games, but eventually I run out of room and need to sell them so I can bring in more games, and when I sell them, I usually make some money. I think I have more fun fixing the broken games than playing them anyway though :P .

Wha??
Who is collecting games for the sake of $$$. More like, people aren't collecting games because they don't have any $$$. Or am I missing something big on the Dow?

Wha?? x2
I'm completely stymied here. Sty. Mied.

Wha??x4
I have plenty of title to play what I own. Plenty.
I also dislike finding and resell only to game.

Some collect and don't play too often. Reasons vary by person.

or some simply collect and play, like me :) I collect games. I mean if I see a really shitty game for $20 that is an R8 eventhough I will never play it, I will buy it for rarity sake. Yet I still buy games I intend on playing, even if they are an R1.

Im actually one who likes to collect more than play, but I highly enjoy gaming. While I do get more entertainment from hunting around than sitting down and playing something, that doesn't really make me hate gaming. Since I'm really into collecting pc games which are generally worthless, that just says it all right there.

Well.....let's put it in a different light. I don't think that you'll find many here that hate gaming. After all, DP is a gaming forum that attracts gamers. But.....I find that there are ever-increasing ELEMENTS of modern gaming that I don't care for. I'm sure that I'm not alone.

I don't care for tons of flash in a game in order to mask a short gameplay time. I don't care for the way that the industry latches onto certain genres and saturates the market with "me too" cookie cutter clones. You get too many shitty games out there that are hollow in content. FPS aren't my favorite genre and I've had to endure oceans of them while waiting for a decent turn-based RPG to show itself again. I don't want offline gameplay to suffer in order to deliver online components. In this regard, Halo 2 was one of the biggest pieces of shit that I can remember with it's incredibly weak offline segment. Bungie pretty much said "fuck anyone that isn't on live" LOL

I find myself spending less on modern games as I find less that appeal enough to warrant paying full pop for them.

I don't 'hate' games, but I would say that I dislike them more than the average person on this forum. I like playing games, but I only truly enjoy playing a small number of them. I don't collect for money purposes, but I collect for collecting purposes... and the fact that I do like playing some games.

This is a really fucking stupid thing to ask.

1. If people COLLECTED games for profit, why would they collect them instead of immediately reselling them?

2. People normally don't tend to get into the buisness of buying and reselling specific things they have absolutely no interest in. You don't see little old women selling porn at the flea markets do you?

3. There are PLENTY of other things to sell that bring in much better money than video games.

4. If they were just in it for profit and didn't like gaming....WHY would they post here? If I buy a couple of antique dolls to slap on eBay I'm not gonna sign up for an Antique Doll forum.

While yes, you can make money buying and reselling games, but in the end you can make more with other things. The profit margin is very small on games unless you buy dirt cheap and sell in massive amounts.

No one here does this. no one. We all love gaming.

No

I am a Gamer I play games, games that I think are fun.
Yes I Wish I could have walls lined with games and I respect the people that do but me personally I own less than 350 games and that is danm near enough for me.
Someday I hope to be able to have the time and money for a collection but not for profit.

I love Video Games I don't care how many I have or don't have as Cmosfm said we all love gaming. I mean we all have to at least appreciate it enough to post about it

If you dislike gaming, and collect, please just stop. Go collect cans of soda, or stamps.

You're just ruining the chances of us finding a game we REALLY want to PLAY.
