I'm actually considering it, but I'm not too sure, since I already own the Collector's Edition (GameStop Exclusive) for the GameCube.

Damn it Capcom. Why oh why do you have to add extra stuff in games titles that were previously released for different systems?

According to GameStop, the PS2 version of Resident Evil 4 will have the following features:

"Premium Edition"*

* I'm not sure whether or not this is exclusive to GameStop or if it will be available at other retail chain stores like EB Games, Game Crazy, Target, Circuit City, Sears, etc.

Check it out here:

http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=281381

Contents -

* Resident Evil 4 for the PS2

* Limited Edition Art Cell (laser etched) featuring Ada Wong

* Making of Resident Evil 4 DVD (Speculation on this DVD is that it might be the same DVD that was available to customers who pre-ordered Resident Evil 4 at EB Games, although nothing has been confirmed)

* Resident Evil 4 Prologue Book by Brady Games (This might be the same book that was included in the GameStop Exclusive Collector's Edition Metal Box Set, although nothing has been confirmed)

From what it sounds like, it will probably come bundled neatly in some kind of special outer packaging, so these items can all be held together in one neat package. Hopefully it's another metal tin or even an embossed cardboard sleeve or something similar.

As for the new features in the game, they're as follows:

* New Exclusive Weapons for the PS2 version - PRL412 Laser Cannon (Plagas Removal Laser), Chainsaw and Gunpowder Bow Gun (similar to the weapon in Resident Evil: Code Veronica)

* New Unlockable Costume for Leon and Ashley

* New Mission Set for Ada Wong, titled "Seperate Ways"

Aside from the game being released for the PS2, the infamous "Chainsaw Controller" by Hori (manufactured stateside by the Nuby Corporation) will also be making it's way to the PS2 this coming Fall.

Check it out here:

Apparently, when you use the Chainsaw Controller in conjunction with a character (probably Leon) who is wielding a Chainsaw in-game, you can physically peform some simple chainsaw swinging movements which the in-game character will then mimic.

Personally, I'm torn.

I'm probably going to break down and buy it, simply because I enjoyed the GameCube version so much.

At least now though, I'll also probably buy the Chainsaw Controller, just because I love quirky, exclusive, game peripherals.

I am not a huge RE fanatic, but if I ever get the itching to play it I will just buy it on GC used for like $15 in like a year.

Everyone has been attacking this, and everyone is cutting it down because of all the problems...yet I haven't seen a final cut...or a hands on experience with the PS2 verison yet...

Perhaps, PS2 can pull a miracle out of it's butt, just like they did with Viewtiful Joe. (I'm sorry people, but imho I like the PS2 and Cube verison, regardless of their differences, since I had the same amount of enjoyment from both)

Lately, for a hardware that's supposely claimed "outdated"...it's been really pulling some tricks out of it's sleeves and I'm not complaining, I'm honestly impressed how it can still manage

Nope. The Cube version was more than enough for me.

I was waiting to see if the differences in the PS2 Vs. the Game Cube version were that great.

Nope, so I'll stick with my been there, done that attitude.

I heard so much goodness about the GC version, I'm going to buy this. Personally, not having a GC is the only reason I'm going for it, because if I had one it would already be beaten. And, if the release day is correct on the site (10/25) then I can get someone to buy it as my birthday present :D
(Wow, I'll be 17. "Offically" able to buy an M rated game)

Hell yeah im picking this one up ASAP ;)

The recent vids and pix have suprised me so far it looks to be a very competent port of what is probably the most visually impressive GC game so far.

While I luv the GC I sold mine a few months ago it was collecting too much dust but I will probably pick up a used one later on just for Zelda.

Other than that I have been real happy with my PS2 for the last 6 months and a good port of RE4 with the extras is just the icing on the cake.

I don't own a ps2 so no, I finished the Cube version and loved it, but have too many other games to finish.

Problem is it wont be a good port. the ps2 just cna not do what the game cube can... sorry sony fan boys :D

I also can't see the PS2 duplicating what the little powerhouse Cube can put out. The machine may be cute and tiny and the game library perceived (yet again) as "kiddie"...but the console has some SERIOUS balls. The only reason to buy it on PS2 would be if you don't have a Cube. And if you don't have a Cube.....they're going cheap now. Get one and play the RE games and Eternal Darkness Sanity's Requiem on it.

Maybe.
My brother will probably buy it so that would save me from buying it. I don't really like spending my money on newer era games. Seems like a waste :)

Fucking Capcom!

First i bought the normal edition.
Then i bought the gamestop limited edition off of ebay.
Now i'm gonna have to buy the fucking thing again to complete my collection. God Damn it. And i know it's gonna have harsh load times too.

I've got the GameCube version. I have the GameCube chainsaw. I want the PS2 chainsaw because it looks cool. I will most probably get the PS2 version too just for the sheer hell of it. It's only going to stay sealed anyway, so what the hell.

I bought the Gamestop LE edition and then decided not to open it and wait for the regular version to come down in price. Now that the PS2 version is coming out.........I'm still gonna play it on GC. So the answer is no :)

Eh. Already beat it into the ground on the Cube. Why would I buy it again? I'm with jdc, Buy a Cube, play it on the Cube, then play Eternal Darkness :)

I won't be picking it up but that's only because I already have the Gamecube version.

I don't understand though why everyone's saying the PS2 version is going to suck. I agree that it won't be as visualy impressive as the Gamecube version since the Gamecube has more power but I also don't think that Capcom will release a version of this game for the PS2 that sucks either.

Don't be Jealous Cubebot, 1.The PS2 version doesn't LOOK that bad. and 2.Yeah the Cube is more powerful, but PS2 has the better games. So.... :P

Anyway yeah I probably will be getting the PS2 version of RE4, because I didn't end up getting the GC one and extra features are cool!

Also note, since the Cube followers are probably after me now, *runs!!*

Most likely no. I quit playing the RE series after part 3. I tried Code veronica, but couldnt get into it. I guess those RE games dont excite me like they used too.

While I think Capcom is pretty bastardish for giving the PS2 more weapons, I'm still sticking with my beloved Gamecube version. I can settle for the fully upgraded handcannon for a little zombie blasting aggression ;D.

I am not sure, I said yes but I might not because I have the gamecube version and love it :)

Now that's one hell of a weird mental image.

For me, well, it depends. A good game's a good game, but...are there crate puzzles, or lots of finding Key A to unlock Door B?

I will buy it. Not on release day.

I've got the limited edition GC version. However, the collector in me wants every version that rears its ugly head (I've got 9 or 10 diff versions of RE 2 alone).

I'll wait until it goes on sale. And hope that it doesn't make it to a GH. Otherwise I'll probably get that too.

A quick update: progress of the port of Resident Evil 4 from IGN.com

The build we played looked visually polished and had the German language implemented into it, so we suspect it's a newer version. Those that played the GameCube version earlier this year would be surprised to see how close the graphics are by comparison. There's some changes, too. The villagers don't disappear anymore, bubbling away into acid, but instead stay lying on the ground. We were unable to determine how many villagers there are compared to the original, but the amounts seemed similar. One possible difference we picked up on that may be related to the graphics engine was the behavior and reaction of shooting villagers. Perhaps it was their slightly less detailed models, some missing animations, or something more subtle that we haven't knowingly picked up on yet, but the shooting (and villagers' reactions to it) seemed slightly less refined.

Likewise, the controls seem a bit stiffer than the GCN version. The title isn't final, so we can't be sure how it will end up, but the turning and aiming could use some tightening up. In a game that's all about honing in on what limb or extremity you want to fire a bullet into, it's important Capcom gets all the tweaks just right.

Having said all this, however, the translation of RE4 to PlayStation 2 seems to be going extremely well. The visuals are better than what some skeptics predicted and the overall experience seems very true to original form; the AI behaves right, the environments are interactive, and weapon collisions feel good, to name a few major elements.

If Capcom can make the fine-tuned adjustments for the final version, PS2 owners should be in for a treat come Halloween time.
from IGN

This is Capcom were talking about so Im sure it will be a great port maybe even better than most expect even those of us like me that expect it to be one of the best looking PS2 games ever ;)

What matters more to me is that Capcom equals the great gameplay found in the GC version if they get that right everything else will fall into place.

I am going to be picking up a copy, even though I have it for Gamecube as well, RE is my favorite game series.

I'll most likely be getting it, as I never got around to picking it up for the GameCube.

I never get around to picking anything up for my 'Cube.
