I know this was expected but I didn't know it was going to happen so soon.

It's a price drop for the DS that's not a package unit.

The bundle sets are still going to be 149.99

The news really isn't about a price drop, as retailers would have had to done this anyway, considering no one is going to py 149.99 for a device that's barebones, when they can get Mario 64 or Metroid : Hunters with it for the same price.

EDIT : But paying 159.99 for a Nintendo DS and Nintendogs together, is definitely worth the possibility. I'm actually hopinh to find a place that still has barebones DS' so that I can make use of this. Hopefully Overstock.com will put the price drop into affect, and forget about the 17 Dollars off they have going on the NDS this month >.<

I really hope the will drop the price in Europe aswell. The PSP launch is on September 1st here. If they would drop the price of the DS here aswell, if would be great for Nintendo. I would probably buy a DS including Nanostray.

Bound to happen. Its been out for a while, and I think stores are realizing that nobody wants to pay the launch price for a console that came out 9 months ago.

Yeah i agree, it's about time for it's drop. While the console has still sold well, this current generation of handleds is still getting a lot of flack for not offering many unique titles. A price drop in combination with the launch of Nintendogs (and the strong fall lineup) should help considerably boost sales.

Anything to make up for that horrible Zelda delay.

Oh, man, just after my buddy bought the system less than two weeks ago. He'll have to check the receipt to see if he can get the price matched and get his $20 back.

Perfect time, especially with such a group of great games that have made it out recently. Not a huge drop, but it should influence people on the fence.

If they really want to fuck with Sony they should have dropped it to $99. If they did that the handheld war could very well take another interesting turn. That doesn't mean that they would have to drop it worldwide. As of the first week in August the DS is the #1 selling system in Japan for 2005. I'm shocked.

Nintendo DS: 43,665 (Annual: 1,278,945)
PlayStation 2: 34,057 (Annual: 1,252,348)
PlayStation Portable: 20,571 (Annual: 1,101,131)
Game Boy Advance SP: 12,107 (Annual: 446,657)
GameCube: 4,445 (Annual: 140,586)
Game Boy Advance: 419 (Annual: 15,689)
Xbox: 228 (Annual: 9,382)

I'll disagree. Having worked in retail, when people see a huge price difference between two competing products they generally wonder "well, what's wrong with it?" Not that there's anything at all wrong with it, but it gives off that first impression. Look at the Gamecube for instance: I've seen a lot of people look at them and wonder why they're so cheap and end up going with something else based on that impression alone.

Regardless, I'm happy, I've been wanting a DS for a short while now and it looks like this is my time to jump on in (when I get paid) with incredible and original titles like Lost in Blue and Phoenix Wright on the way and stellar stuff like Meteos, Kirby and Pac Pix already on the shelves. Nintendo's dedication to "gaming-only" has certainly paid off (in my opinion) in regards to the handhelds. I already have an mp3 player, a portable dvd player is a better option than a PSP for movies (though I don't see myself using either in the near future), so for gaming the DS seems to be a better choice. Again, just my opinion, unwad your panties.

Every single month, I am surprised to see how many PS2's are still being sold in the world. Doesn't everyone have one yet? It's unbelievable. Even if most of the purchases are "replacement" PS2's, it stll means the owners cared enough to get another one. heh....

"Cared" or had a huge collection the wanted to play and were therefore forced to buy a replacement?
