I tried to boot up my front loding Sega CD after a few months of hibernation and ran into some trouble. It powers on OK, but when a CD is inserted, it spits it right back out. The access light keeps flashing as if it's accessing a disc at all times once it's turned on. Any ideas anyone?

The two questions that spring to mind are is the disc clean and is the lazer clean?

Also, how about the contacts on the Genesis to Sega CD part?

I'd try cleaning everything really well and see if that helps.

If the Sega CD spash screen shows up, I'm sure the connector isn't the problem. It's more likely the CD part is the problem.

If cleaning the laser doesn't work, can you tell if the disc is spinning at all? Can it play any audio CD?

I've cleaned contacts. Discs are clean , but it doesn't seem if they start spinning at all. I've taken the cover off to take a look, but I couldn't see anything wrong. It would start with any discs at all.

As long as you're looking at the gut, check every single cable and make sure none are loose or has corroded contact. m Clean and reseat all ribbon cables.

When you have the cover off, you may need to hold down the lid down sense switch to trick it into playing but don't look directly at the laser at all! If the motor spins, the laser diode moves up and moves back and forth along the track, then it's something else. A burned out laser is one possibility.

I've determined that it has to be a burnt out laser. Thanks everyone for your help. Any have a Sega CD for sale or trade?
