Sometimes I wonder why I don't play new games very often, and it occured to me that many of them have too damn much walking. When I play any of these 3D games where the camera is behind the guy's back, most of the time I play is spent on walking from one area to the next, or just walking around trying to find something, or walking because I can't figure out what else to do. I played some Tenchu game, and spent all kinds of time just walking around trying to find some door. Whenever I watch anyone play GTA III+. they're either walking, walking, walking, or driving down the road not doing anything perticularly constructive. Recently I got the hankering for an RPG, so I bought Morrowind after reading about it being the Best Roleplaying Game In the World Ever- and that game bored the living crap out of me, mostly because of endless WALKING. -_-

Now, do these modern games really have too much walking around or do I just have a really short attention sp

*goes off to play Street Fighter 2*

<3 Morrowind.

Oh, and I guessed it was a morrowind thread by the title, for the record. ;D

(Seriously, find yourself some boots of blinding speed. Makes it much more bearable)

Funny, I can't recall a game where you do a lot of walking.

RUNNING, now that's a different story.

Hmm, maybe it is just me.

Nah, it's not just you. It cracks me up as well! Even in action games like Halo 2 if you play a wide open map it can feel like an eternity to get from one end to the other! However, I can think of a few old style RPGs (ie/ LTTP etc) in which I remember walking around for hours trying to work out what to do!

My advice: play driving games!! :P

Actually, I MISS walking and walking and walking. Dragon warrior series anyone?

Yeah, LOTS of walking in Morrowind. Do get the blinding speed boots, though. It makes the rest so less painful.

My only problem with Morrowind is that I just goofed off with sidequests for several weeks, and by the time I was ready to return to the game I couldn't remember what to do. Still a lot of fun, though.

Yeah, but it was a different scale. It didn't take all weekend to go from tantagel to Hawksness.

Morrowind's a bad example, most new games don't have anywhere near as much walking as that one. It's like saying new games have too much sailing because you found Windwaker dull. Besides as many have told you, it's a fixable complaint with Morrwind, you can get the boots almost as soon as you load up a new game. And the game uses four seperate methods of instant teleportation. It doesn't have to take days to cross the continant.

Holy crap you're right. I'm playing Dragon Warrior II for the first time ever, and I leveled myself up to Level 8 just walking and walking and walking around looking for Prince John before I found him SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER at the inn at Leftwynne SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER. Unbelievable. Apparently I suck at RPGs. I was this close to looking at a filthy walkthrough.

That was a lot of walking.
