2 of my fav. sports games of all time are baseball stars, and final lap twin. Baseball stars has actually gotten more playtime on my DS than all of my ds games put together.

Are there any other decent sports RPG games? Other than Gran Turismo, which was great, and gets successively WORSE as each game comes out.

Mario Golf on the GBC I believe was a sports RPG. And I love that game, but I'm not sure if anyone shares my love for this game. It might be the most played game I own. But, it was a great sport RPG.

Well, if you like Tennis there's Virtua Tennis and Tennis 2K2 for the Dreamcast, as well as Top Spin for the XBOX. All have World Circuit modes with character creation. You can participate in singles and doubles matches in various tournaments. You win cash that can be used for buying new equipment, or additional players.

The Knockout Kings/Fight Night series has a career mode with a ranking system where the player faces several opponents of higher and lower ranks where you eventually earn a shot at the championship. There are six different weight classes to choose from with different unlockable bonuses attached to each class (mostly boxing attire). As you continue to win fights, you'll earn more money, higher ranks, and the opportunity to ring walk to more elaborate pyrotechnic productions.

If you want old school, Evander Holyfield Real Deal Boxing on the Genny also had a career option with a ranking tree.

Seems like the "Superstar" mode in the new Madden would be the most RPG-like sports game around.

I mean signing endorsement deals, doing movies and commercials? Hell, next year it'll be like The Sims and you'll have to wipe your butt before practice or something!

Tecmo Soccer for the NES is one of the best sports RPG's around. World Court Tennis for TG-16 is great too.

final lap twin.

Well.. I've always had a huge place in my heart for the career mode in Super Monaco GP on the Genesis. It doesn't have the overhead walking RPG part in Final Lap Twin (which I also loved), but the team rivalries (and joining them) and upgrading of your car is pretty much the same kind of feel/thing. You can have some pretty intense races in that game once you get used to it.

Does Hit the Ice (http://www.lostlevels.org/200405/200405-hti.shtml) count?

I should have said - non liscened/serious/career mode type. I thought of it after I posted, obviously any serious sports game is going to have some sort of career or league mode.

But final lap twin had the obvious powerups, overhead walking/random battles, etc.... Hell, swap in some sword snad you wouldn't even know it was really a racing game ;)

Baseball stars, you could name all of your players, and completely control every single stat. Baseball stars probly doesn't qualify for what I'm looking for, but it doesn't FEEL like it's set up like a real sports game. Not professional at all. I want something more along the lines of brutal sports football seriousness :)

Yes. If you like soccer, the Captain Tsubasa series is great.

If you can read japanese, you can try to find battle golfer yui for the mega drive (It plays on my nomad fine without a convertor so any pass through cart will work to play it on the genesis).

You might get a kick out of ChoroQ HG2 and HG4 for PS2

HG2 was released as Road Trip and HG4 was released as just ChoroQ...I'm addicted to HG4 at the moment and am having an absolute blast with it.
