I just got back from Fun.. err.. Gamestop. Not only are all Genesis games "buy 2 get 1 free", but it looks like they may have lowered their prices again.

Today I got the following for $2.99 each:

Faerytale Adventure
Marble Madness
Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure

With sale price and 10% discount card the total was only $5.65. That's less than $2 each! Better than most fleas and thrifts! The selection is still good at stores across the country so better get shopping. Last week I got Toe Jam & Earl for under $7.

Next time I'm bringing a list of all my empty boxes so I can fill those babies up!

Wait... didn't I say I was trying to thin my collection? Damn!

Time to go to GameStop.... :o 8-)

That's a good deal if they had the boxes, otherwise unless they're really rare games they're worthless to me. It's all about the boxes when it comes to Genesis games...

I stopped buying Genesis at Gamestop the same day they got the e-mail memo telling them to trash the boxes for more shelf space.

A box as well designed and thought out as a Genesis box shouldn't be thrown away ever. And with a system like Genesis, with boxes that are not only easy to display, but easy to get a cart out of without damaging the box, you really can't go any other way.

The books and manuals are part of the game- the artwork helps to sell the game to the customer besides a well-known name or franchise.

Yup. It seems like the Funcos out here are real hit or miss when it comes to this. There's one store specifically where I think someone who is hip to the classics keeps the games boxed if they're actually desirable. I got a boxed Herzog Zwei and Gunstar (mismarked to $1.99, no less) at that store.

Fine. You people keep looking for complete Genesis games. Meanwhile I'll be in the Orphanage grabbing all the boxes that no one seems to want!

I do that too. Everytime I go to the flea market I ask the guy if he has any empty boxes and he'll usually hand me a stack of about 20 for free (some with instructions). I've got about 40 empty boxes looking for carts right now.

Funny - I had the same thought last weekend as well. I picked up six carts for under ten bucks.. several nifty Rennovation ones, etc. I'm going back this coming weekend, too ; )

It's about time my Genesis got more love, but I sure don't need another system to actively collect for.

Yeah that's just wrong. Sega Genesis boxes (with the exception of the cardboard ones) are just so well made.. how could you throw them away? :?

Even I, a notorious box thrower STILL have all my Genesis and SMS boxes for all my games since they were just such handy cases. I can't say the same thing about any other system I own.

Last Wednesday I stopped by Gamestop and bought some of the Genesis games they had. I might go back there this week to get more.

Eh, I still don't have any desire to have boxes for my games...

And I've just unloaded a bunch of my manuals...so I don't seem to care about those either...

Just gimme the games :)

YES!

Now is the time, now is the time. Do it now, before they disappear. Where to? Maybe the garbage, maybe a warehouse, but regardless, hurry!

If you want boxes, you can try what I've been saying for months. Ask them to toss em in a garbage bag for you instead of throwing them away. If they get in a decent stream of tradeins, and the staff isn't a complete bunch of twats, they should help you out, especially if you're a semiregular customer.

I must have gotten 200-250 Genesis boxes I needed (plus a ludicrious amount of extras that I *had* to throw away bc of no room PLUS a bunch of NES boxes and N64 boxes... little SNES oddly..) this way.

But yeah, I must have picked up a good 250 games I needed from Funcos, at dirt cheap prices.

I got lucky yesterday finding a NES game complete at my Babagges. It's a crappy game so it should still be there today.

Plus if there's no one in my store and one the people working there who knows me is there I may get the nerve to ask about game sleeves or boxes.

Today, also for a grand total of $5.65, I got:

Quackshot featuring Donald Duck
Risk
Zoom!

Not bad I think, though I only ended up filling 1 box. It was Risk, and actually I still have 1 empty Risk box. Go figure!

When this topic dies down, I think it should be moved to Collecting and stickied. IMO.
