Ok I just bought an Atari 5200 Super System with 4 joystick ports. Then i saw the rf unit,and im wondering why so big,then i realize the rf box IS the power adapter,so the rf wire which delivers the poorist possible video and audio signals now has power running thru it to.....Do you think it was a mistake or its the quality the same as the 2 port model?

The power supply is *not* in the RF adapter.

The power supply plugs in to the RF adapter.

The power supply is a brick even larger than the RF adapter. Don't drop it on your toe. And if you think it's bad, you should see the power supply for an Atari 800!

I'm not certain, but I believe the RF picture coming from the 4-port is not noticeably different from the 2-port, which used the then-standard and typical manual TV/Game switchbox, with the power adapter connecting directly to the console itself.

The RF switch wasn't the only thing that I think Atari made a poor decision on with the 5200... And in my opinion the RF switch wasn't cool because of how they have held up through time. Finding working "powered" RF switches is really rather tough, and most ones I find with systems have burn marks from where the power adaptor went in... it makes me feel like something wasn't designed quite right :hmm:

I think the controllers were the big mistake, though the power supply/RF thing sucks too.

Having bulit a swich box for a 5200, I can verify this is true.
