I while ago, I snagged a dirt cheap copy of Turok for the Gamecube. When I was shelving it, I realized that I now had Turok for all 3 of the current systems. When I told this to my tiny circle of collecting buddies, they dubbed it the "unholy trifecta". Since then, I also landed Starsky & Hutch for all three. Some trifectas make since to own, like Soul Caliber 2, but mine are strictly for the collection. Now if I could just land a GCN Sould Caliber 2 or Capcom vs. SNK. So what games do you own for all three current systems?

I have some Duets but no trifectas.

The first trifectas i am going to have will be Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Burnout 3, Soul Calibur 2.

That is if i ever get around to buying GCN games....

Beyond Good & Evil

It's such a great game that I just had to buy it three times. I'll buy the PC version if i ever see it again, too.

I make it a point not to buy the same game for multiple systems, although I guess I would make an exception for Soul Calibur II GC. I never see it around, though.

None i always just buy the copy for the best system. Xbox>GC>PS2.

Soul Cal 2 = X
Killer 7 = GC
ONLY Exclusive games for PS2

I'm trying to collect for my interests, not make a complete collection. The closest thing i'll have is all 3 copies of Nintendogs next week.

Sadly, sometimes the PS2 version is superior to the Gamecube version, such as with the Splinter Cell games.

Oftentimes, the Gamecube version IS the PS2 version but on a smaller disc (and with worse looking videos), as in Metal Arms, Minority Report, and most other cross platform titles.

I don't even have any doubles in the same generation. Some games, like Street Fighter 2, Pac-Man, Frogger, etc, I have on different systems from different generations, but there are usually some improvement to make me want to rebuy the game.

I can't see me buying the same game 3 times for the current gen systems unless there was some... no, scratch that, I ain't doing it. I usually just buy the PS2 version of multi-platform games since that's the only current system I leave hooked up.

Kind of related, Is there any game that is out on ALL of the systems?
PS2, PSP, XBox, GC, GBA, DS, PC?

Madden 2006 will be on all.

Madden is the only one I can think of. PSP and DS kind of limits the pool.

The closest that I have is Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for the Dreamcast, PS2, and Xbox.

Yeah but the Xbox version is superior to both PS2 and Gamecube.

That does happen sometimes, but not always. To be honest with you it's more the load times then the quality of video that maters to me when comparing the GC to the PS2. Besides both the games you mentioned are on the Xbox so i'd have gotten that version anyways.

EDIT: There are exceptions of course. Most Notably MGS2 which i own for both the PS2 and XBOX. Fucking Konami and their piss poor port.

I have owned two copies of ICO, but I buy it if I see it cheap to give out to friends to show them what a REAL game is like 8-)

I generally try to determine which version is considered best and just get that one. Most of the time it's the Xbox version, but I do know the developers of the Burnout series have said the PS2 version looks best. They've also said thier upcoming shooting game "Black" will look better on the PS2 than on the Xbox.
My trifecta would go to "Defender". Bought the PS2 version first and really enjoyed the game. Bought the Xbox version because it had an extra mission not in the PS2 game, plus the PS2 had some slow framerate issues on a few mission's with a lot of ships on the screen. Then they came out with the Cube version with yet again, a different extra mission, so I picked it up as well. Bought all of them pre-played, so I'm well under $25 for the three of them.
The modern version of "Defender" is a hard game to recommend to people because it's not outstanding at anything. But like the "Strike" series of games, it's simple but enjoyable fare that somehow manages to rise above it's mediocrity.

For current gen systems? none. I don't collect for them and since I don't that wouldn't make much sense at all. I don't even have an xbox yet.

ICO isn't even on more than one platform (PS2 only) so it doesn't really count for anything (well in this topic at least). ;)

That is news to me. I've never heard them say the game looks better on the PS2, just that the Particle effects look better.

*thinks*

I don't own three of too many games I don't think. I know I have duos of a few though. Such as:

Dragon Warrior (NES, GBC)
Dragon Warrior II (NES, GBC)
Dragon Warrior III (GBC, SFC)
Final Fantasy (NES, PSX)
Breath of Fire (SNES, GBA)
Breath of FIre II (SNES, GBA)
Tactics Ogre (SFC, PSX)
Shining Force (Genesis, GBA)
Shining Force: Sword of Hajya (GG, Sega CD)
Crystalis (NES, GBC)
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64, NGC)
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64, NGC)
Final Fantasy Adventure/Sword of Mana (GB, GBA)
D&D: Eye of the Beholder (SNES, GBA)
Phantasy Star (SMS, GBA)
Phantasy Star II (Genesis, GBA)
Phantasy Star III (Genesis, GBA)
Final Fantasy III (SNES, PSX)

As for trifectas...

The Legend of Zelda (NES, GBA, NGC)

U R teh cr4zy, man. @_@

Current systems? No. I had a last gen trifecta (sorta) with Doom (PlayStation), Doom (Saturn), and Doom 64. Although Doom 64 was a completely different game. But this was after owning Doom (PC) and prior to owning Doom (GBA). So do I have you beat with a super- and maybe superduperfecta?

I do have one current gen double with Space Channel 5 for both PS2 and Dreamcast, but that shouldn't really count so much since SC5 part 1 was thrown in with SC5 part 2 for PS2 as a bonus disc.

I have a few other doubles as well, but they are for previous generations of systems.

Chu Chu Rocket -- DC and GBA

Strikers 1945 II -- Saturn and PlayStation (the PlayStation version was called simply Strikers 1945 since the actual Strikers 1945 I was never going to be released on PlayStation. Unless XS games wanted to bring it over as Mobile Light Force Zero or something.)

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo -- PlayStation and Saturn

Viewpoint -- PlayStation and Genesis (Was there a short time after the PlayStation launched when Sega was still supporting the Genesis?)

R-Types PlayStation and R-Type DX GBA (Both collections contain R-Type 1 and R-Type 2, although as you would expect the PlayStation version was essentially a perfect port and the GBC version was simplified, had levels and enemies cut, etc.

You can play Doom on all of those except PSP and GC.

Sometimes Trifectas are hard to do, i mean the odds, i might as well pick 3 random numbers. This is there i get the numbers 6-3-1 $1 Box for every race.

Slimedog

Well, you might have me beat on Doom, except I've also got the Jag, CDI and 3DO versions of it. I also think I've got Dragon's Lair on 4-7 systems, depending on if you consider NES, GB and SNES version to count since the gameplay is totally different.

I'm actually surprised more people here don't have current gen trifectas. There seem to be a lot of collectors here with more resources than I have so I figured it wonldn't be very uncommon. Honestly, its kind of flattering that my persuit of trifectas is considered to be too geeky or a waste of money by folks that look for K-Mart label variations or count the screws on NES games. I may have found something that sets my collection apart. :D

None.

I am a college student, and therefore not anything remotely approaching rich.

Now, now, you're generalizing. That's not nice. Some college students ride their parents magic bubble all through life and live in shool housing, and have all the video games and chocalate they want (that is, between the drinking binges). Nonetheless I'm with you, I'm poor.

When I think back to college, I had way more disposable income for games than I do now. No living expenses + full time job means plenty of cash even if I did have to pay ever dime of my college expenses. Thank god too. Thats when I started collecting and it allowed me go start with a bang.

When I was in college, I gave every single video game I had (hundreds) to a kid down the hall for one night's drinking money.

I want them back so badly that I even have dreams where I'm like: "Oh wait, I remember now - those games are in the garage; I never actually gave them away." Then when I wake up, I'm agitated for the rest of the day.

i don't think i have any games where I have versions for all 3 of the current consoles.

however, I do have a few games where I have 3 or more versions.

resident evil 2
PC
PSX
DC
GC
N64
Game.com

I won't get into packaging variants and foreign versions though. :D

Resident Evil 3
PSX
DC
GC

Resident Evil
PC
Saturn
PSX
DC

Resident Evil Code Veronica
PS2
GC
DC

notice a trend? :-P

Other than for RE games, I wouldn't bother buying a game for which I already had a version on one of the other consoles.
