Solely. Man, that word looks wrong typed.

Anyway. I've noticed that the past couple consoles I've bought have been solely for one game. Last generation, I wasn't interested in the console until one game came out for it that I must play, then I run out and get the console and the game.

Examples:

PS2: FF9. Ok, so it was a PS1 game, but I never had a playstation, and I needed a DVD player.

Gamecube: Animal Crossing. I had no interest in the Gamecube until I saw the ads for Animal Crossing.

Dreamcast: NES emulation. Ok, maybe that one doesn't count.

N64: Goldeneye. 'Nuff said.

Anybody else buy consoles mostly for one game?

I didn't buy it with 1 game in mind, but the only reason I still have my Sega CD around is because of Snatcher.

Bought a Gamecube just for Smash Bros. Melee, probably gonna buy a Revolution just for Smash Bros. 3.

If I had a dime for every collector who bought a PC Engine Duo-R for just Dracula X...I'd have $3.20

Well I bought the N64 for one game.. Mario 64. Goldeneye was still way off :P

It wasn't the sole reason but Ninja Gaiden was the dominant driving force in my buying an Xbox. Several delays forced me to entertain the other reasons first though.

I buy all the systems regardless unless there's truly nothing that appeals to me. N-Gage comes to mind. I don't know if i'll ever buy that system but i'd take one for free!

Yes. I bought an Xbox soley for Halo and Halo 2. I've since expanded that collection, but I still usually only play the Halos.

Bought my Cube for PSO I & II, and played that and only that until Windwaker came out. There's a LOT of games I play my Cube now though.

Bought an SNES just for Super Mario World back in the day too.

I have two that I can think of right now, the Dreamcast (for Skies of Arcadia) and the XBox (for Fable). Come to think of it, those are also the only games I bought at retail for either of those systems (3 total for the DC and 2 for the XBox). I've bought a lot more systems on speculation that a developer will make games for it. Thankfully, that normally works out.

Advance Wars: Dual Strike is going to be the reason I buy a Nintendo DS. Otherwise I'm not interested (well *rubs chin* Nanostray nearly was a clincher on its own but not as highly touted and a must have for me as Dual Strike).

I bought (well, asked for) an NES because of "Super Mario 3"

I asked for a Genesis because of "Sonic 2"

I bought a Saturn for "Guardian Heroes"

I'm going to buy an XBOX primarily for "Outrun 2" (and Burnout 3)

So yes, i aquire systems because of one game.

I originally got the PS1 so I could play Final Fantasy 7, and since it was a ways off when I got it, I played tons of other games while waiting for it to come out. :D I remember when I finally had it, I played it non stop for soooo long.
Still have my original save kicking around on a memory card here somewhere.

I really hope we get a Final Fantasy VII remake for the PS3, then I would buy one to play FFVII :D

I won't buy a console for one game, but I wull buy one because of one perticular game that I'm very interested in to sort of "unlock the door" to getting all those other titles that I was only sort of interested in.

For example, I'm about to get a PoS2 primarily for Mushihimesama, but I'll also get stuff like Ys VI and Graduis V eventually.

Yeah, I bought my PS2 mainly for GTA3(plus I needed a DVD player in my room).

I of course found many other great games to get, but GTA3 was well worth the price of the system+game. :D

I had origionally bought my Gamecube because I desperately wanted to play Sunshine. I've since only played (and beaten) 2 other games for it, but Sunshine was the only game I had in mind when I had bought it.
I bought my N64 because I liked playing Super Mario 64 at my cousins house. I can't remember if that was the only game though.
If Twilight Princess comes out for Revolution, that will be the reason I buy that console as well.

Congrats! Its your lucky day! They will give you one for free if you sign a one year T-Moblie contract. In fact, you get a $50 rebate so they will pay you $50 to take an NGage.

Can't say that I ever have. Though, I have gotten consoles before (Dreamcast) where I only play a few games ever (Gauntlet Legends, Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi).

I bought a Gamecube 2 years ago just for Ikaruga. I've picked up a few under $5 games since, but I still have not turned on the system.

My Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast I think were mostly following Sonic around.

I bought a Gamecube a couple of months ago just for Animal Crossing (well, and the "forthcoming" Hello Kitty game for my girlfriend) and now I have 14 games for the system. (And the Hello Kitty game has yet to come out!)

I bought a current-gen system (gamecube, in this case) for Time Splitters 2. I've now got all three systems, and a couple dozen games for each. But, it was TS3 that gave me the push to get a console newer than my Dreamcast.

Funny thing, though, is that Time Splitters wasn't my first game from the current generation. I've owned Frequency pretty much since it's debut... bought it to play on my buddy's system.

I bought a Dreamcast for Soul Calibur. But I would have probably bought it anyway since I loved the saturn!

No. I always wait until I have at least three games that I really, really want. Until that happens, I'll hold off.

I waited forever to get a GameCube because, even though I really wanted Super Monkey Ball, I didn't have anything else I really wanted to play for the longest time... until Mario Kart.

I bought a NUON just for tempest 3000.

Okay, so that was my exception to the rule too...

Then again, I bought it as a DVD player that just happens to play Tempest 3000 when it dropped to $99.00 new. I wouldn't have been able to justify it without needing a DVD player too.

i don't do that dumb ass shit. i don't buy systems for 1 game, but plenty more games.

I will buy a PS3 because of one game (MGS4) but it's not like i won't pick up other exclusive titles like DMC4 (Still could come to 360) too. It's foolish to buy a system for only one game and then only play that one game.

For example i bought a PS2 because of MGS3, but i've also gotten other big exclusives like, God of war, DMC, PS2 Exclusive RE games, Time Crisis (mmm guncon2 goodness) and of course the legendary, Katamari Damacy.

I'm guilty, the only reason I bought an XboX was for Dead or Alive Ultimate, but I could not resist Outrun2 for 20 bucks !!

Bought my Cube for SMS, (what a mistake that was...) Since then SoulCalibur II hasn't left it

I plan on buying a 360 only for DOA4

I've got a TRS-8- CoCo 2 solely for the game Dungeons of Daggorath. I've never had any intention of ever seeking out any other games for this obscure system, but lately Downland has piqued my interest.

I will buy a PS3 because of one game (MGS4)

I'm going to be guilty of that...

For example i bought a PS2 because of MGS3

... and I'm already guilty of that :P

Actually, I had a PS2 prior to the release of MGS3, but it was one of the older ones and ended up getting that damn Disk Read Error. I was without a PS2 for a long time. Then when MGS3 hit the shelves, I actually bought that before the system... as kind of a way to MAKE me by the PS2 again! I've purchased other games for it though, I don't just stagnate on one game for a system. That would indeed be pointless.

Other than that, the whole reason I ever wanted the PSOne was because MGS came out, and I was a huge fan of Metal Gear on the NES (at this point, I had no internet and no knowledge of the MSX versions).

I bought an Atari Jaguar just to be able to play Alien vs Preditor. After realizing the game was crap I sold them off.

I will buy a console for an exclusive game series.

But just one game? I've never ran into that. All the consoles I own I've bought for more than one game.

Dreamcast - Daytona USA (AKA Daytona USA 2001)
NeoGeo Pocket Color - Densha de Go! 2
WonderSwan Color - Final Lap Special
XBox - Shenmue II (I'm one of those odd people that actually LIKE the cheesy dub voices)
Jaguar CD - for the VLM (okay, technically not a game)

I never have before, but when I ganked my sister-in-law's Atari 7800, I can see that I might have bought that one solely for Food Fight. Maybe not at full price, mind you.

If I hadn't imported Ikaruga for Dreamcast, then I probably would have bought a Gamecube just to play it. Well, there are some other cool games I probably would have picked up eventually, too. Just like I'll eventually pick them up when I eventually get a Gamecube.

I may buy a DS solely to play Advance Wars: Dual Strike. I haven't read about anything else that's grabbing me by the short hairs, but then I haven't been keeping up with what's out for it.

In 2003 I already had a PS2 and wouldn't have had any reason (in my view) to pick up an Xbox. Then Steel Battalion was announced and I knew that I had to have the green monster. That was how Microsoft got its toe-hold in my console room.

If a Steel Battalion sequel is produced for any of the next-gen consoles, then I will buy that console. Solely for the SB game. Otherwise we may see Xbox 720 and PS4 on the shelves before I grab 360 and PS3.

I try not to buy a console just for one game but im quite guilty as charged. I bought a Jaguar just for AVP, and some other older consoles but turned out to like the selection. Right now, I feel a bought the PSP just for GTA: Liberty stories because of lackluster selection of ports and limited types of games but its still young.

I did seek out certain consoles for one game or another (listed below), but I never bought a console specifically for those games. I've always ended up getting more games for that console after I have claimed the first one.

Intellivision - Astrosmash
Neo Geo Pocket Color - Cardfighters' Clash
Odyssey2 - Pick Axe Pete!
Sega CD - Panic! (which I still haven't gotten)

Well, I bought a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga before I owned a Saturn. So then I had to go root around to find a cheap Saturn in order to be able to play it, so I guess that probably counts.

Was definitely worth it. I also kept the Saturn, and found loads more great games for it too!

nope

but i would be guilty of buying a system based on fanboyisim -- like if sega ever came out with a new system id get it with out even considering what games it had

todays systems i purchased used - so i dont realy count that as totaly buying a system becasue my money didnt go to the manufacturer - but like for the already mentioned id buy that brand new

I begged my parents for a sega saturn when i was young after seeing the sonic 3d blast commercial.. Of course they got me one LOL Though I discovered the pack in games were amazing in their own rights... virtua fighter, virtua cop, and daytona U.S.A are BLISS

Same with Dreamcast, when it came out... I wanted one for sonic adventure.

Gamecube- I bought one when metal gear solid:TS came out, and sold it when i beat it.. Then I traded for another when resident evil 4 came out, then sold it again..

Well I REALLY didn't want Gamecube but being a Survival Horror addict I got one for RESIDENT EVIL the remake for NGC. well worth it since I then ended up getting Resident Evil Zero and I am playing Resident Evil 4 right now.................

Ok, I'll admit it wasn't one game but one series that caused me to get a gamecube, Resident Evil

Oh wait, that happened with Dreamcast too.
