Yeah, I like it. Ebay owns it, and for used stuff it works pretty much like BIN auctions, except with less chaos. Basically, half.com just acts as a middleman. They forward your order and payment (I always use CC) to the seller, who confirms and then ships. If something doesn't arrive or doesn't work or isn't as described and you can't get satisfaction from the seller, you can get half.com to issue you a refund (as long as you notify half.com within 30 days). I like to check it before making an ebay bid, because sometimes you can find an item for well below the prevailing ebay average.
When I'm looking for a game online, I usually check gamebuyer.com (for price comparisons), amazon.com, half.com, ebay.com, and gamestop.com (where you can also check to see if they have a game at a local shop). Sometimes when I'm looking for newer stuff I'll look at doublediscount.com and shop.hitmenow.com as well.

They should call it fullprice.com
or biggerBIN.com :P
Lets look at what's being pushed as a good deal on the front page..
Back to the Future: The Complete Trilogy
Best Price: $31.75
List Price: $56.98 (Save $25.23)
Now, barring the fact that this is a recall product the best deal is only a few bucks less then what I could get at Wal-Mart or Target.. Oh and it's used.
Ok, so now I guess this is HALF of 56.98, but when did it cost $56.98 ever? It never did..
You could say a 2003 Beetle cost $100,000 all day long, but that wouldn't make me feel like I was getting a deal if offered it for $50,000. To someone out there it does though.

Goodness. I've never paid any attention to the front page. I only look there when I'm looking for something specific. Sometimes the prices are good on used stuff, but you're right that the new stuff can be not such a good deal.

I've used it to buy stuff occasionally, mostly books. When it first started and they started allowing games to sell on it for more than full original retail, I emailed them and asked them what the deal is. They told me that they didn't want to "restrict their marketplace" by making people selll things only for half of original retail. They make a LOT of $ there and aren't going to jeapordize that just to stop being hypocrites.
As for buying there, it's just like eBay...sometimes stuff is just like it says, sometimes not, sometimes reliable sellers, sometimes scammers. As a rule, it's a bad place to buy most games, and a good place to buy books and the occasional DVD that goes cheap there. I've sold there before only once, and I got $70 for a trashed Tactics Ogre for PS1 in under 2 says. Kinda shocking :) Your eBay feedback carries over there too.

Half.com can be misleading as hell with stuff, but I still like it. It's irritating to see a game you want going for $10, only to find out that with the box and manual it's $60. I also think they shouldn't count "Acceptable" games as the lowest price. Most "Acceptable" games are completely trashed, so even though they're cheap, nobody in their right mind would buy them.
I've bought plenty of stuff from half.com though. Older cd's can get extremely cheap, I've bought plenty for less than $5 after shipping. Older VHS tapes are pretty cheap as well. As far as games go, the only really good deals are on PSX games as far as I can tell. N64 and DC games seem overpriced to me, anything Gameboy costs way too much as usual, and I haven't found anything for the newer systems that isn't cheaper at Gamestop or something.

It is a lot like a cyber thrift store...there can be great buys and some buys which are terrible.

I use it MORE often than eBay, I haven't had any problems there to date. And yeah, it's called half.com but it's pretty obvious that's not meant to be taken literally (at least I thought so).
