It's a stand up model. I put some cash into it cosmetically. New T moulding, fixed the flourescent lamp, found a new backgound and installed it. Looks pretty nice and was playing fine until I moved it to a new home. Electronically, I don't know what the heck I am doing, so I need some advice.

Before the move, the display on the monitor seemed a little "squished". Meaning, it looked like the right side was pushed in a little, making the display somewhat distorted on the right side, the characters were a little narrow. The cabinet must have gotten a bit jostled around in the move. Now when I turn it on, all there is for a display is a 1/4" vertical stripe running down the center of the monitor. You can tell the game is playing because you can see some movement and hear the sounds. It is as if the game has a horizontal control that was turned completely down, squishing the display.

Any ideas?

Time for a cap kit. It might not be the solution, but if it's never had one done, it's still a very good idea to replace the caps.

If you aren't familiar with replacing them, then read up on it a lot, find a friend who's familiar with it and have them help you, and above all else, BE CAREFUL. The monitor can send enough voltage through you to kill you if you don't know what you're doing. BE CAREFUL!!! :) Being careful cannot be stressed enough.

The basic steps are as follows:

Find someone who is good with electronics / soldering (if you aren't comfortable with it) and ask for help.

Order a cap kit for your make/model of monitor

!PROPERLY DISCHARGE THE MONITOR! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT AND SHOULD BE DONE BY SOMEONE WHO HAS DONE IT BEFORE if you aren't familiar with it. Then remove the monitor so you can work on it.

Replace the caps and put the monitor back into the machine.

The picture should be back to normal. If not, back to the drawing board.
