View Full Version : Reviving an SNES Kiosk
I scored another kiosk to add to my collection - this time it was a full stand-up SNES display with a 25" monitor in it! This thing's a beast! I got it from the same place I found my Jaguar kiosk at and it was up for sale for $100 "as is."
I wanted to check it out a bit before hauling it home so I asked the guy at Game Craze if I could plug it in and see what the problem was. He said there was a short in the audio but the video was OK. Well I couldn't get ANYTHING to come up on the screen but could faintly hear audio so I knew the demo SNES itself was OK, and the fixtures lit up so I thought I'd take a shot at it. I talked him down to $75 and loaded this monster in my xB.
Got it home and started tinkering around with it, swapping parts here and there with my own working parts and eventually figuring out that the video cable in the kiosk is no good. But using my own parts, everything works! WOO! Got it cleaned up, I just need to re-solder the audio volume board onto the amp and I should be golden. Then I just need to figure out how I'm going to get this thing upstairs into my game room and out of the garage. LOL

Hey, thanks for the pics! You got a pretty good deal.
Does anyone know what the security wire is for, coming out of the expansion slot on the bottom there?

Congrats!

I assume it just cuts the power and when you plug it in it completes the circuit and on comes the system. I plugged a standard SNES into the kiosk's power supply and it worked fine.
BTW does anyone know if Radio Shack sells a cable like this?

It's male coaxial on one end and has an male RCA connector on the other end.

Where is a good place to find these SNES kiosks? I'd love to have one for myself. Can you configure them so that they do not periodically reset? I'd slip a SWC DX2 with a Disk Dual into it, so that it would be a SNES juke box, for quick game competitions (Street Fighter, Mario Kart, etc).

It looks really nice. Awesome score.
If anybody says otherwise, Stone Cold can open a can of woop-ass on that person.

I just lucked out with mine because a local store was selling them off. Otherwise I'd imagine you have to deal with eBay and outrageous shipping prices.
I haven't had the machine reset on me yet, I am wondering if it's an option you can adjust on the board somewhere. Either way I could swap out a standard SNES and hook up a SWC in there, which is a good idea. The only problem with that is the plastic cover wouldn't be able to close because the SWC sits under the SNES, right? Where is a good place to pick one up?

Just a standard copy of Street Fighter II: Turbo. Might be cool to get a few Not for Resale games to be able to put in the display though.

Cool, thanks. I've decided to bypass the regular video connection since there's an S-Video input on the back of the set. I've got it hooked up via Composite right now. I reprogrammed my TiVO remote to change the inputs on the kiosk TV ;)
I got it up in my game room since I got it up and running. check it out:

Thanks for all the comments, guys. They have a Genesis kiosk with the 6 game switcher in it available for $100 too if anyone's in the Western NY area. I'm pretty much out of room now ;)

Wow, it looks like a perfect fit for that room. Great find, hopefully I'll stumble upon a kiosk eventually...

Thanks! Yeah it took some creative re-arranging to get everything to fit. I had my Jaguar kiosk where the SNES one is now. I ended up taking off a closet door on the opposite wall and putting the Jaggy kiosk in there. Worked out pretty well actually.

Probably in similar condition. It looked like all the electronics were in there but not necessarily hooked up correctly. They had some Saturn game posters on parts of it, but those are easliy removed. No real big glaring flaws. The Genesis one is really big, if you make a trip out for it definitely bring a pickup truck!
