I'm going to go with Nights as well. Pretty innovative little title that got mistaken for a flying Sonic game because too many people wouldn't bother to actually play it and discover the combo-rich gameplay. That game is a score attack wet dream.

Why do you like Sonic Adventure DX, btw? Sure, they added the high res textures, but that caused slowdown in Windy Valley and a few other places that wasn't present in the original game, and they didn't even bother to fix up the camera or the control scheme (when I was playing Sonic Adventure, I didn't even mind the camera, but I could not understand why you'd have 4 face buttons and only use two of them, especially when the button to pick up your Chao was the same as the button you used to spindash the fuck out of them).

The Knuckles levels haven't aged well, either. I remember loving them when I played them originaly, but now they're just painful :( I DID like the Knuckles stages in Sonic Adventure moreso than Sonic Adventure 2....

While we're on the topic of Sonic Team games, was anyone else disappointed in Billy Hatcher and miffed that only the Gamecube version of Puyo Pop Fever came to the US (with regard to the console versions)? I love Puyo Puyo any way I can take it, but playing with the Gamecube control is a pain with that d-pad...and you just can not play a game that demands that much percision with an analog stick :(

Sorry for the rant

I liked Billy Hatcher, but I wouldn't call it a landmark or anything. It had a fun atmosphere and was different even if it wasn't revolutionary. At least it wasn't just another mascot-with-a-'tude platformer.

Nights
Phantasy Star Online

I would definately say PSO. I sinked way too much time into that game, and I didn't even play it online. :/ It was the first MMORPG that I ever played and I still dream of being able to play online with thousands of other players. Here's to hoping they will make a new online version for one of the next generation consoles...

If Yuji Naka=Sonic Team, then the first Phantasy Star for the SMS would be my favorite. If not, Feel the Magic XX/XY would be in close second.

Will be PSO or Nights. I can't really choose as the games are too different. Both I played a damn lot.

Nights, Sonic 2 and the Shining Force series. (Okay that's a little bit of a reach, but I know that Camelot is made up of some old Sonic team guys.) On the whole I can say that I haven't truly enjoyed a Sonic game for a long long time.

Burning Rangers, baby!
(A mavelous little gem that could be an anime or live action film...sigh, too bad no one will read my script)

Naki-san, where's the sequel/update?

Second place would have to go to Nights into Dreams...ANOTHER game that needs an update/re-release.

Nights! Or Maybe Sonic...

Sonic 1, then Nights I guess.

I just beat Billy Hatcher, and while it was pretty good, I don't think Sonic Team has a hold of the whole 3D platforming think yet.

Sonic 2 by far for me, followed by any Phantasy Star Online. Sonic 3 & Knuckles would be up there as well.

Sonic 2 and Samba De Amigo are probably my favorites.

I haven't played Nights since I was a kid, and all I remember is it being incredibly hard. Is it that tough, or was I just bad at it?

You were just bad at it ;)

Play it again and you'll probably find it too easy unless you're going for score (which is what it's all about, baby!) :)

NiGHTS wins my vote by a hair. A very small, microscopic stubble.

2nd place goes to PSO
3rd place - Samba de Amigo

After Sonic 2, I got sick of said Hedgehog.

Sonic & Knuckles, because of the linking ability.

I've got to see Nights 1 day.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles, since it was originally intended to be one game and eventually DID become one game essentially. The levels were some of the best I have ever seen in any Sonic game (rivals most other games too IMO), same with the music. The game is just HUGE too with different paths for each character.

I would have to say Sonic Adventure! this game turned the world upside down (literaly) when it was first released....Well my world anyway.

NiGHTS. I'd like the game better if the piece of crap hardware that is the saturn hadn't erased my perfect file for it.

Phantasy Star Online 1 & 2 Plus.

I've been playing PSO for 5 years now. That's replay value for you. LOL

Wow, soebody said burning rangers. That game is awesome. I would have to go to these (in order):

1.) Nights
2.) Burning Rangers
3.) Sonic Adventure

I am also going to have to say Nights.

Burning Rangers, Chu Chu Rocket, Sonic 2 and Sonic Chaos all come very close.

Yea, those batteries die out way too quickly :\
The quickest I've lost one is 2 years, which is roughly 8+ years sooner than I'd like :\

One of these days I'm going to need to get a 1st party memory cart

I really can't give you a best. My favorite has to be Sonic 2. But here's a list of Sonic Team titles that are amazing in no order:

Sonic
Sonic 2
Sonic 3
Sonic and Knuckles
Sonic CD
NiGHTS
Feel the Magic
Sonic Adventure
Sonic Advance 2

While Sonic Adventure isn't perfect Sonic's portion of the game is 3D platforming perfection. I don't get the massive complaints about the camera system, you can adjust it people!

We need a new NiGHTS game and Sonic Rush and Where Do Babie's Come From? are looking awesome. I hope Shadow turns out good too. But most of all, we need a next gen Sonic title that features Sonic only. Come on Naka, what's the fucking problem????

THE ONE, THE ONLY- RCM

wasnt Sonic Team formerly known as Sonic Software Planning?
i believe so, and my favorites are the early Shining Force genesis games (I,II,CD)
