Great, does this mean the next Bubble Bobble game will begin with a 40 minute long, unskipable cut scene about Bub having a bad hair day? :shameful:

as long as taito are not absorbed into square-enix completley it could be pretty cool.. taito being a sub division of such a major japanese player not to mention a company which has close links with EA means that they will be able to make more titles for us gamers... plus this deal does give another area of exploitation within the realms of the cross-over genre, can you imagine it now that they are all part of the same company maybe we could see a game featuring major taito characters interacting with square characters

Call me crazy, but I'm not really wishing
"Man, I really wish these Square-Enix charaters would be put into these Taito games. Seriously!"
And, call me even crazier, I doubt many people are. But, as long as they dont mess with anything, this dosn't seem to bad.

If Taito isn't best known for Space Invaders, the first massively popular Japanese-designed video game, something is seriously wrong. Taito=Space Invaders. End of discussion.

If Square puts Cloud in Space Invaders, there will be hell to pay.

And, if they use Quest to make another Ogre Battle game, I swear it better not have one single Final Fantasy reference.

Is Square going to be Japan's equivalent to EA games?

We're looking at this in the wrong way. This means some Square characters could have action games, or maybe Taito could help with the Final Fantasy Minigames. Or-maybe-A REVENGE OF THE NINJA/NINJA HAYGATE RPG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!! Please make it, if something was good as an FMV game, it can be good as anything!

Square can offically suck my bubble bobble balls. This really sucks ass! Square is too much like EA right now and it's not looking good...

The day a final fantasy character shows up in a Taito game...is the day that I know for sure, the future of games is doomed...well not really..just Taito selling out to the man yo!...no wait...lemme re-word that.....Ah yes...Taito will have to commit a respectful samurai suicide for disgracing their hertiage and name to sell out..."kanashii" --> :( ....

Taito=Space Invaders. End of discussion.

Yeah, I can see that. Y'know, whenver I think "Taito" I immediately think "Double Dragon". :?

I'm not sure if any actual crossover kind of games will happen, but hopefully some new games will come out of this. But like most of you I'm pessimsitic about the future.

I would like to see more Time Gal, if they do it right.

I liked Square in the 16 bit days. But now the that the top priority is "OMG, HOW MUCH MONEY CAN I GIVE THE STOCKHOLDERS?! Who can I screw to make my stocks more valuable?(the consumers!) Oh God, I hope Disney offers to buy us!" Then they'll be too afraid to take risks, and just make clones of the last big thing that made money.

Wow, I'm glad that Taito isn't just going out of business with noone buying them, that would really suck, I'm glad any company is acquiring the rights to their games so we will still see future releases, whether they're good games or not.

i'm a pretty big square fan. although i haven't purchased any of their new games (think my last was unlimited saga..still need to play that) i think even making some bad choices/products in some people's opinions doesn't give them the evil empire status everyone here is seemingly lashing out with. if taito had to merge/absorb into another company, which one would you rather them enter?

I disagree, I haven't had a problem with any Square-enix game at all, especially they stil seem to care for the customer,

but I don't really know where you get that from.

I am glad they are being bought into square-enix now as long as they keep the company seperate than it's all good.

It's all about the money, but one thing for sure, it's not a GameFAQ rant.

The fact is, these companies start to loose their originality once they join up, Enix and Square will try to change their look and style.

Enix and Square...already making some kind of game with FF and DW characters in it aren't they? As an example.

Honestly, like ubersaurus said, who's calling the shots here? Enix?..Yet it could be Square...

Now with Taito, who knows what silly ideas they'll try.

Look how much Nintendo has changed Sega with the Sonic series....censorships....cutting out "SOR Trilogy" on Gems Collection...is that Sega's call? No It was Nintendo of America fault....

There is a pattern here, Taito will change their style not because they want to, but by force of what their new owners will want.

Let's not forget SNK, moving on to Sammy and working along side Capcom. That's like watching the entire movie of "Office Space" in slow mo...you know they'll hate it...but they gotta do it because they have no where else to go and get paid for...

Come now. Tatio has a huge coin-op business. Square and Enix? Not so much. The motivation and outcome seems straightforward.

Oh, I was just thinking about the future, not the present. (See GnG's post.)

You know, this thread made me realize that the last Square game I bought was Final Fantasy III(VI) for the SNES...

Oh, please. Sorry, but we all know there's not such thing as a huge coni-op business anymore, unless you make rhythm games, lightgun games, or pachinko. And I don't think that's what Taito does. Arcades are dying, plain and simple. All the Taito fanboys in this thread should just be pleased Taito isn't dying with them. I know I am. And, yes, the motivation is money, or course. Why else do companies merge? But if you're implying that the motivation is monopoly, there are corporations much stronger and more influential than Taito, and Square is still a long way from EA in that respect.

Do I like Square buying up a whole bunch of companies? Not particularly, though I think the Square-Enix merger was mostly a good one, in the long run. Before that happened, Square was starting to churn out some real crap, if you ask me. Not that there's still not crap on the horizon, but the future looks somewhat brighter, to my eyes.

Actually, it was because of the ESRB. With SOR, the game would have automatically been rated T, which would have cut out some of the standard Sonic audience.

Still, it was under the American law's fault and the pattern with Nintendo releasing less and less M rated games is getting nerve wracking at times.

I echoed this in several other forums.
Before letting any Square bashing come across, read this first and then think you want. Get to the bottom of this.

Because Taito's been around longer than Square has and a veteran of the arcade scene, personally I now think that this merger could be for the better of Square itself and non-RPG fans also. This might get a master/student relationship going, for Taito might put Square in their place.

Taito has kept its legacy for all these years for never being too close minded and afraid to make games for different genres and they still become classics, the arcade scene being one of them. And Square on the other hand, if they made non-RPG's/FF (King's Knight, Einhander, Driving Emotion, The Bouncer, and I'm not sure but did they ever attempt to make a single sports game?), they would become underrated, become a well known name among the hardcore crowd, or get bum raps really fast. When people think Square-Enix, first name that comes to mind is "Final Fantasy" all other SE games not related often get overshadowed. It's like you know a band, you know what the lead singer looks like, but you'll always forget who the drummer, the bassist, and the guitarist looks like.

So that leaves a possible theory, Taito thrives on innovation, Square thrives on fanservice (most of the time anyway, subtle cameos of FF characters and stuff). When the time comes, give them a few inches. Hopefully amid the "FF Gayness as some of y'all call it", here's two things of what I can visualize coming out of this:
>Einhander 2 for arcades, imagine the possiblities if some elements of Mushihime-sama or Shikigami crept up in that.
>As mentioned earlier, a new Lufia game, but then again Square can teach Taito a thing or two on that. DON'T STUFF THE GAME FULL OF DEVIOUS PUZZLES! maybe 1-4 puzzles is alright, but don't go overboard

With Taito's help, Square might be able to break out of their RPG mold and shock impress the public with some unthinkable stuff like Capcom and SNK did a few years back.

Taito still supports 3-D games with 2-D like gameplay right?

Japan. 'Nuff said.

Check some market reports. I think you'll see that arcades in Japan are in the downward spiral too, hence the mention of Pachinko. When I wrote that I wasn't even thinking of the American coin-op scene. To me, that's long dead.

@Lord Contaminus: Dammit, there's nothing wrong with devious puzzles. One of Square's major problems at the moment is that most of their games can be won by repeatedly mashing the X button. Frankly, Square could use an injection of challenge.

I suppose they could have been purchased by a lot worse companies. EA anyone? Actually I'm surprised that Microsoft didn't pick them up.

You also have to remember that the last time Microsoft bought a big company, the only thing they got was the classic game, grabbed by the ghoulies.

I personally don't really give a damn about this merger. I have never bought a Taito game other than Bust a Move for my PS. What has Taito done recently. Nothing, by my accounts. I don't really give a damn what is happening with them.

I would just like to say that ll you peeps bashing Square and saying there will be crossover games are weird. Just because they made one game doesn't mean there will be more. Because Mega Man had a soccer game, did you all think that Mega Man Pennant Chase, or Mega Man NBA Jam, was going to be made. NO! I liked Kingdom Hearts and thought it was a damn good game. They won't make any crossover games. It just won't happen.

Yes, Square-Enix has been releasing a lot of crap games recently that are just out there to make money, but I believe there bigger problem is the fact that they are scared. They know that the Final Fantasy name can sell any game, and after the screwed up with FF XI, I think they are afraid to mess up again. They aren't just going to release a new Final Fantasy game, because they know they can't screw up. This, I feel, is the same reason we haven't really seen a new Mario game. They messed up Sunshine. Most people felt it wasn't true Mario, so now Nintendo is rereleasing games on the GBA, or making Mario Dance, or Mario Baseball, or Mario Dancing Baseball. They know these games will sell, and they don't put the Mario name in Jeopardy.

Finally, I don't think any of you folks should complain about a company trying to make money. There goal is not to make you happy; it's to make money. Without money, none of your favorite games would have been released and all of your favorite companies would be gone. Money makes the world go round, and this doesn't exclude video games.

Following up on "sealboy6", I totally agree with you on it and what "Lord Contaminous" said as well. These are companies we are talking about, sure they care about your satisfaction, but they want just enough for you to buy their games. You can't survive in this world without money, so how should the companies? You're only real solution here is since the merge is out of your hangs, just sit back and chill. It's nice to comment on it and think of what can be, but don't bash them. Only time will tell what will really happen and if you're a true fan, respect what's going on and hope for the best.
