HI
I was wondering if the shining force for sega cd is the same or different from the genesis version and if the game gear version is a different game as well?

The Sega CD version is an upgraded port of two of the three GameGear games. Namely Gaiden 1, and Gaiden 2 (release stateside as Sword of Hayja). It's not the same as either Genesis Shining Force game.
It also has an exclusive battle, which allows you to choose 12 fighters from all 22.

The biggest difference (and why it's my favorite version of Shining Force) is there's none of that "walking around town talking to people" b.s. :) So it's pretty much just pure battles. You have in-between sections where you can choose your fighters and equip them, etc. But aside from that, it's all fight scene after fight scene.
And of course the audio is a lot better.

It's also quite pricey, dammit. I've been watching ebay for it but I'll be damned if I'm paying more than $30.

I paid $60 and don't regret it. It's just a great game.
As for the "walking bullshit" the gamegear games are also set up with no town roaming bits.

I found it at a game store recently for $30. How does it go for on Ebay?
