I just happened to realize how much time I will have for gaming now that school has started, and I wondered how many other people are also hard pressed for game time. Myself, I go to school monday through thursday from 10am-5:30pm, and then I go to work from 6pm-midnight. On Friday, I am in school from 10am-noon, and then I work from 12:30pm-9pm. I work from 12:30pm-9pm on Sundays, which means my only good time for gaming now is on Saturday. I just realized how little I have to game, and was just curious how many others are in the same boat as me.

Yeah, I just started graduate school, and I have, um, ZERO hours available for gaming. Well, I'm just gonna have to make time. Somehow . . .

I start college next week, and then I will see how much time I have left...Im going to a local community college, so hopefuly I still have time to game.
I'm like that too, only not quite as bad, I finish school at 3 for my first semester and don't usually work till 5 or 6, so I can game a bit in there. Also I usually have a day or two off of work during the week, but tend to work weekends. So I have a bit of time but not nearly as much as I've become accustomed to over the summer.

Been there, done that.
You've just got to focus on what's more important, and that's getting a good education. The games will still be there when you've got more free time again. I actually went a couple of years in college where I MAYBE spent an hour playing video games a WEEK.

Well, school will be from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM M-F. Howver, due to some transportation problems, I might be there until 5:30 three days a week, and I can't play portables for six extra hours a week. Tuesdays I have Boy Scouts from 7:00 PM to 8:30. The new school I'm starting at is likely to overpower me with homework.
I have to finish Digital Devil Saga before it's too late. I've got less than a month until the next one, and I think I'm at the second last boss fight.
Somehow, I play more games no matter what once school starts. It's weird.

I hear you. I work 50 hours a week and still have to find time for wife, 2 kids and the dog (cats don't really seem to need anyone).
I get in an hour or two like three nights a week and usually have one mini-marathon after everyone is in bed either Friday or Saturday night.
So even with everything else, I probably manage 8-10 hours per week.
Whats fun, every once in a while (rainy weekends are best) is teaching the kids to play. My 3-year-old loves the N64 and some of the kiddy Genesis games.

Jesus, wait until you have kids. Then you'll spend whatever diamond-like precious moments of free time you manage to scrounge up wondering where all the free time you used to have went.
But then again, I would rather spend time with my kids now and try to ensure they grow up to become non-axe murderers bitching to Court TV that daddy used to spend all his time with the PS2. All my new games just get thrown on the pile. I'll have time to play them someday.

Game? Christ, I'm having trouble finding time BREATHE. Check this out:
All figures are weekly
Class Time: 18hrs.
Suggested Study/Homework: (18x3hrs.)= 54hrs.
Work, to qualify for insurance: + 30hrs.
---------
102hrs. of work per week
Hours in a week: 168hrs.
Sleep (6hrs./night): 42hrs.
Eating (2 meals/day @ 30min/meal): 7hrs.
Hygiene (1 hour/day): 7hrs.
Commute (30min/day, 15min each way): - 4hrs.
---------
108hrs. available per week
-102hrs. work from above
---------
6hrs. free time per week
Yeah, so I have six hours free time per week....if not of my shifts go over....and if I don't get assigned extra homework/projects.....and if there's no wasted time BETWEEN classes...and....

A lot of us are probably in the same 'pressed for time boat,' just for different reasons. I'm in the "Married With Children" crowd - which means I only get time to myself when my wife's off playing soccer and my son is asleep. :)
The *really* difficult part is deciding which hobby to enjoy when you *do* get the time (assuming you have more than one). I tend to agonize over it (last night I eventually chose to watch a movie - "Top Secret." Needless to say, it was time well spent :D ).

Follow Dr. Hedgehog’s Time Management Formula:
“Got events in the coming weeks that must be attended to? The answer is to maximize leisure time by cutting out the fat, in this case, a social life. Spread rumors that your anus spurts puss and you have a highly-infectious genital rash. Time to pursue your own goals will create itself as people begin to stop requesting your company, your employers part way with you, and classes you’ve enrolled in are canceled. It’s like magic!”

Just sleep/eat less I guess.
Or play less, everyone could stand to be studying a bit more [especially myself].

Even with school and everything else I do, I always manage to find time for a few games here and there. Weekly, I probably play about 3 hours. Not much makes me play any less than that. You've just got to manage your time and play some games when you normally wouldn't play them.

Hmm. I didn't realize how many people that go to this forum are actually already married and have children.
Currently, I'm in my sophmore year of high school (10th grade) and I joined football. I put a lot of commitment to the team, and soon I'll have practice after school until 6 PM. Usually I put in at least 2 hours worth of homework if I need too, since I consider my education to be very important, as everyone should. And I go to sleep around 10...I should have about 2 hours of gaming once school starts. I dunno. Last year, around this time, I actually didn't play video games as much. :/

At college I always had so little time to game... then I ended up giving up sleep to play. Not a wise idea at all.

Get a portable and play games while you do other things such as taking a dump. Maximize your efficiency.
Do you actually use the suggested study time? I don't think I've ever met somebody that makes use of all that time.
I don't know what your major is, but I've found it to be extremely helpful to work in groups when it comes to math and engineering related homework. Not only do you save time, but it also helps you to retain your knowledge longer.
I hear you. I work 50 hours a week and still have to find time for wife, 2 kids and the dog (cats don't really seem to need anyone).
Ditto minus one kid and one dog and add 10 hours at the office....

Music Performance major. Practice + composition and theory = major homework load. But, still, I doubt I'll actually use that much, you're right. In the past, when I used to major in English, I'd say I was much closer to one hour study per one hour of class time. This is my first year of majoring in music, but hopefully it will be like that this year too.

I'm absolutely positive I have it the worst (yeah right). Not only am I starting graduate school in PHYSICS this week, but I am married with one kid, and a dog to boot!
Nature Boy - You hit the nail on the head. The really tough part is deciding how to divvy up your precious free time. If you can find some.

I'm a third year university student that commutes into the city 45min+ each way and have classes from 8am-3:45pm Mon-Fri then work 5pm-9pm @ a cable company. I messed up real bad last fall and spring because I let the on-line gaming take over my life (Don't let it happen to you!). This time around I have no work or school Saturday/Sunday and broke my horrible habbit of battle.net and arena.net allowing weekends to be devoted to studying, controlled gaming, and getting out+about.
