Anyone looking forward to Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks?
It looks like a pretty cool beat em' up game. Going to check it out when its out.

I played the demo at work and it's actually fun! It's a brawler with Co-Op mode even, interesting tricks to pull off, the buttons are simplistic and easy to pick up.
And you can still perform Fatalities on random creatures while you build up your meter and learn new ones!
Takes place right after MK1, so Lui Kang and Kung Lao have to escape Goro's Lair...and many cameos will appear, like Baraka, Johnny Cage, Reptile.
The Pit from Mortal Kombat 1 is back and they kept it perfect to the original, (Santa Claus and the UFO is floating in the background when they fly across the moon lol)

I am looking forward to this game, I am planning to go and get the demo to try it out,
but it's looking really cool, might be a great game.

Fantastic demo. What's weird is that it FEELS like Mortal Kombat. The way the special moves are handled is incredible, and so many more games need to use this system.
Oh, and I can't forget that the camera is set like a classic beat-em-up, and it can stil move for some better angles when needed. This is how Ninja Gaiden should have worked.

Let me just say that Kung Lao's "bunny" fatality has become the best in the series, replacing Quan Chi's leg rip. So freakin' sadistic, it's funny. Liu Kang's Soccer kick is good too.
It's not God of War, but it's damn good.

I'm glad to be hearing good about SM here! Let's admit it... the first two attempt at MK-themed beat-em-ups weren't... good. At all. Mythologies had some good concepts, but was muddled by HORRIBLE control. And Special Forces... the less said, the better. In fact, for purposes meant to preserve the integrity of the video gaming universe, SF never existed. :P
I am very glad to read positive reviews on this... and I'm happy to have seen an unlucky schmuck thrown straight into the mouth of a tree in the Living Forest. Bitchin'! Though, if it runs for $50, I may sadly have to stave it off. I have my money set elsewhere... but anyhoo, great review there, Matt. From what you're telling me, I'll be entertained for quite a while. :)

Oh snap. SNAP, dammit. I just read that Scorpion and Sub-Zero are unlockable for play after beating the game with both Liu Kang and Kung Lao. I... think I will have to spend $50 to get this now. AUGH.

I got this, and its GREAT, the levels are beautiful, the moves are great, the combo's SICK.. this game is a must have for any MK fan, unlike mk.mythologies before it, you WON'T be dissapointed. :D

lol, I was making reference to both of the mythologies, sub zero and Jax, WTF obtw were they thinking in making him the second guy for that series, shit, where I am from, (earth) he was one of the least popular characters, but hey what do I know... :D

I saw a commercial for this game last night. I had actually never heard of it until then, but it looked like a really cool game. Sort of brought back some memories of playing the old MKII.

Actually I have some really kick ass news.
Mortal Kombat 2 (Arcade) is hidden in the game! That's right, you love MK2 so much, it's in Shaolin Monks! If you missed out on Midway Arcade Treasures 2, it's back again...

Time to get a Xbox or a PS2 can't decide bleh? I want to go with xbox because of slowdowns and easy die hardware but then again PS2 has so many great games maybe I should just wait for next gen if it's backward compatible? meh

I rented it last night and put a few hours into it. It's good but to me not $50 good. A couple things that got under my skin so far is the platform jumping (especially along walls-can't tell how far away from the wall you are and can sometimes miss the platform when you think you're right over it) and fatalities while fighting multiple enemies (after you perform a single fatality, enemies that are nearby will pummel you as your guard is down with no chance of defense).
I might snag it after prices go down.

Just happened to pick this game up yesterday. It is really neat, and def. fun multi-player. If you are a huge Mortal Kombat fan then get/rent this!

You can play as scorpion in Psi Ops if that helps you any but it isn't quite the same...... scorpion kicks all kinds of ass!

Why not? Too Adult for US television usually means it's still fit for the rest of the world.
Oh and could someone explain to me what the hell is going on with the character models? they look absolutely horrible. Not bad, but they're far off of what we expect MK characters to look like. Raiden has a fat baby face.
The opening video is fucking sweet though.

Been playing this game for a while now, maybe to 25-30% complete. The game is damn horrible. I know that all the other Mortal Kombat games are brutal, but this game is the worse I think. When you get to baraka he torture monks and shit. And the "finish her" with jade sticking 2 sai's inside her eyes.
I wonder why people acctualy make stuff this brutal. The game itself is cool enough, but did they really have to include really horrible stuff? Who enjoyes that? :hmm:

Who really enjoys that? MK fans of course. I admit i was kind of shocked by Jade's death, in fact i even said, "Jesus" when i saw it, but it's no worse then anything else in the MK universe. MK is known for the sheer graphic violence and it's what the fans expect, but it's also so over the top that it's often more hilarious then disturbing. I'll even admit that i found Jade's death funny as hell. Call me sick if you wish but answer this question, "How would you have that scene end?"

This game sounds neat. Does it feature a ground-combo system (AKA a "dial-a-combo" system), like that first introduced in MK3, or does it more resemble the klassic gameplay of MK2?

Havnt really followed the MK serie (played all tho) so I dont know what was new in what game. But when you do a fatality you see what you push. It have 5 "?" marks and you have to push the right combination.

Yeah but the fatalities were what made it special. We're all higher life forms that know violently ripping out the spine of our enemies isn't the right answer, but it does appeal to our primal desires. Everybody has a voice inside them that says kill and MK lets us exercise this repressed desire in a virtual world and I'd rather do it there then in a dark alley.
Besides Jade and Millena wouldn't give up. It's a fight to the death your life or their's. I don't know about you but i'd rather kill then be killed. Jades death was nessacary, over the top and horribly violent, but nessacary. They had to die just like an enemy soldier would have to die.

It's funny. It's so over the top, absurd, and ridiculous, it becomes funny. Kung Lao beating someone to death with a bunny? Priceless.

Ye, I know that the horrid violence makes Mortal Kombat Mortal Kombat, but I will never understand why someone enjoyes to see people (yes, i know its only a game, but still) getting killed in the most horrible way. I just dont understand it.
Sure, I have played Mortal Kombat for quite some hours, but I still dont like all the violence.
Its not in human nature to enjoy stuff like this. Then I mean really enjoy it without reacting at all, thats whats scary. I see some say its funny and I do agree that if someone slaps a guy with a bunny might be funny hehe. But seeing a woman getting 2 sai's into her eyesockets, I dont see anything fun with that.

Anyone beaten this game yet? Im stuck. After you meat with Kitana she talking about meeting Goro in the Wastelands or something. Where is this? I've checked everywhere, but I still cant find it.
(Ye I know I said I didnt liked all the violence like on the "Finish Him", I still dont like them, but the game itself is decent. In case anyone wonder why I still play it :P)

What I can't stand about this game is the forced repetition. I'm stuck on the Reptile level.
There aren't enough save points in the game. In fact, why does an XBOX game (which has a hard drive) have save points at all?
So, you do this lame jumping puzzle sequence and then get your ass handed to you by Reptile. If you die, you have to do all the jumping over again ad nauseum. :roll: :roll:
Wow, what fun. Anyway, can anyone tell me how to reliably get past Reptile?

I didn't have issues with Reptile, but those damned platforms before him. Who are you using? If you have Kung Lao, snap up some experience and get the air kicks. Best move in the game.
And there's always a save point before the boss fights, and usually another somewhere at mid-level.

To the right there is a big rock or something, just stand there when he throws stuff and you wont get hit.
When he gets invisible just run around and do a rolling attack. This way its not that hard. After you hit him once you can see him.
I played through the game about 2 weeks ago. Not a bad game, recommend all to try it :)
