I like me some PC rpg, but I like lounging on my couch with my two pugs and wireless controller even more. So what are the best PC titles to get ported to consoles? I think I'm pretty much set for this gen, but I'd like to pick up some classics for the older systems.

Hmm. The Wizardry series is pretty popular. And Dungeon Master. And does Starflight count?
I do recall hearing that the SNES version of Ultima VII just doesn't compare.
EDIT: And Eye of the Beholder, as someone mentioned in another thread. (The Sega CD version had full voice.)

I second Starflight.
The NES versions of Shadowgate and Deja Vu are better than the PC versions, too, in my opinion. Ultima Exodus on the NES may look kind of crappy for a NES game, but I think it's better than its PC counterpart.

Those are all good suggestions. Thanks. Starflight is my favorite game of all time, but I don't know if I want to buy a Genesis just to play a title I've already beaten on the PC. BTW, my avatar is the original PC version of the screenshot in Starflight's entry on the online guide.

Well, if you wanted to buy a genesis for TWO games, I hear that Shadworun for the genesis is also very good, and I think that was released on the PC at some point.
Might and Magic saw a few ports: #1 on the NES, #2 on the Genesis, and #3 on the SNES.
Thought of a couple original titles with huge appeal to PC RPGers:
PS2 has Wizardry-Tales of the Forsaken Land. Combat is a bit simplified compared to the PC Wizardry titles, but there's an added focus on group combos not present in the PC originals.
PS1 has a few roguelikes. Azure Dreams and Torneko:The Last Hope are basically nice looking roguelikes. Ehrgeiz has a quest mode, but since it's basically a real-time fighting game engine with a roguelike game added on, it seems to me a bit more hectic in a bad way. I've heard Tower of Druaga for the PS2 is another RL, but I've heard nothing but bad things about that.

Released on the PC? Never heard that.
(If there was another Shadowrun on the PC, I doubt it would be like the Genesis version, given that the Genesis, Sega CD, and SNES versions of Shadowrun are all completely different.)

I guess by "Rouge Like" you mean the Fushigo no Dunegon series, of which Nightmare of Druaga is a part of. There is also Time Stalker for the Dreamcast, Digimon World 2 for the Psone, and Fatal Labyrinth for the genesis which all play similarly.
Shadowrun was never released for PC.
Just about all the XboX RPGs saw PC releases, Morrowind, Knights of the Old Republic, Fable, and Pirates which is also good for the Genesis.
Ys VI for Gamecube was also released for PC in Japan.
And then there's the console RPGs which happen to be ported to PC later. Final Fantasy 7,8, and Breath of Fire 4.
Got some more:
For Genesis, Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday. Rings of Power was scrapped as a PC game, but came out on the Genesis. And, if you don't consider it more PC Adventure than an RPG, Faery Tale Adventure.
D&D:Warriors of the Eternal Sun is pretty close to a PC RPG in terms of gameplay and being faithful to the D&D rules.
Emulation or import wise, the SFC Shin Megami Tensei games are probably the closest console game to play like old-school PC RPGs than any other original console franchise I've seen.
And since it's been brought up, Shadowrun never came out on PC, but the Genny version is the most pen-and-paper rules compliant version the US ever saw.

There was a little game called Faery Tale for Genesis that was OK. How about Pool of Radiance on the NES, this is a good game. Some people classify Diablo (PS1) as an rpg.
There was a game called Silver that also came out on the Dreamcast, I only played the demo, which seemed well enough. Here's a classic Ys, I'm not sure which version came out first, but I played the PC version.
I hope you have wireless controllersfor the systems you can get them for....who gets up to get the soda and Doritos? Have you trained the pugs to do this?

I've played through the Dreamcast version. It's excellent. I highly recommend it.

If you qualify it as a RPG, my farorite port is Diablo for the PS1. It allows 1-2 players with better graphics and a few mods over the PC version (Including a "speed up game" mode). It made me wish and send a few emails to blizzard as to if they could port Diablo2 or possible later games to consule.

It's more of a strategy game, but the PSone port of Warcraft II: The Dark Saga is quite good in my opinion (especially good if you have the PSone mouse).

Just get that keyboard and mouse combo that might be coming out with the Infinium. Those look like they'll be comfortable to use while chilling on the couch.
Morrowind is probably the best PC RPG that ever made it to a console. Either that or Bard's Tale, but the NES Bard's Tale was a bastardization of the game, and the PS2 Bard's Tale is just an inferior product overall.

Hmmm. Didn't consider that. At least I can get the Generation NEX thing. And the pugs wouldn't lift a paw for anyone once they're draped over the cushions snoring away.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm definately going to have to pick up Pool of Radiance, and I just arranged to pick up the Ultimas. I think I'll have to try the Wizardry series on the console, too. Actually, I'll probably just go through this thread and eventually pick up most everything that was mentioned.

You mean the Phantom? I've a feeling that any hopes I place on that thing are sure to be disappointed. It'd be nice if the 360 allows for some PC emulation since its supposedly got a kepyboard coming.
I agree about Morrowind (although some of the older games mentioned are also great), but I've already got it. I'm also with you on the inferiority of the current gen Bard's Tale. It, along with the Baludur's Gate games, illustrates why I avoided consoles so long in the first place: everything is so simplified.

I didn't say get a Phantom itself - just get the keyboard and mouse for it. Those two things look like they will make viable PC gaming on the couch. Then plug 'em into your PC and plug your video card (which will need to have an S-Video out or something like that) into the TV. Then you can play the r0><0r PC games from the couch.

Isn't there a wide range of exotic gaming keyboards available already?

For Genesis, Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday.
Seconded. Ive been playing it a bit lately, and even though the music is bland and repetitive, and the graphics leave a lot to the imagination, its still a pretty decent game. :)
