Im confused,I was just reading the story in the front of the Sonic CD manual and it says Princess Sally. "When Robotnic saw Sonic approaching,he had dispatched his prize creation, the Metal Sonic,to grab Princess Sally and lure his arch enemy into danger." If i remember correctly i watched the Sonic CD ending on Sonic Jam and he saved a Pink Hedgehog. The pink hedgehog is Amy,so did he not save Sally or is that Sally? A copy of the manual is here in PDF format : http://www.gamemanuals.net/download/beb6b5d9f896db328b621a3a684c4b09/Sonic%20The%20Hedgehog%20CD.pdf

Its Page 3 On the PDF file or Page 2-3 on the original Manual

No, not a typo. Amy Rose was called Princess Sally in the American Sega-CD version of Sonic CD to tie-in with the terrible cartoon series of Sonic the Hedgehog that was on TV at the same time. It's Sally in name only.

Yeah, I found an FAQ on this and they changed the manual to Co-promote the game and TV Show (which I happen to like). As far as I can tell, they're not the same character, because Sonic was intersted in Sally, while he was not in Amy. However, this really doesn't explain the absence of Sally in the Sonic Adventure series, which included Amy. I'm working under the theory that Sally and the rest of the Freedom Fighters were not warped to earth for some reason, while the rest of the Sonic crew was. I also believe that our sun may be the cause of the character's change of looks in the later games, which seems otherwise unexplained. I may just be clutching at straws here, however.........

Depends if you're talking about the SatAM Sonic cartoon, Sally isn't in any others. Here's a link to a pic:

This also goes with my crackpot chili dogs thread.

Anyway, the SatAM cartoon (seriously, I believe it was US made) had Sally. Amy was in Sonic CD. Sounds like the Sega promoting the cartoon idea makes sense.

Personally, I don't give a damn as to who was from what series. Really.

EDIT:

Actually, Sally was in the crappier cartoon in the Christmas special. That's why Sonic ROBS (implied) all the stores. To get her presents. I can't believe this how all of America thinks.

They put Princess Sally in the instruction manual, in order to create more awareness for Sally in the Archie comic, and in Sat-AM.

Bingo.

Whatever the reason, it seems the change was US only. My PAL copy mentions Amy and Robotnik sends Metal Sonic to get "the girl".

Does anyone know if all the US manuals are like that, or was it changed at some point in the print run?

She was called Amy in the Australian version as well.

In Sega World Sydney, they had a person walking around dressed as Princess Sally Acorn and not Amy. BOO. I wonder what they did with the costumes after Sega World went bust?

Close, you're thinking of Sera, the President of South Island's daughter. For some reason, she was a catgirl o_o?

They're all like that. As has been said before, only and all the US manuals mention Sally.
