I went to a book fair a few months ago and noticed they rented out an area that had two separate long rooms with loads of vendors selling all sorts of old books. I think we need something like that here for 2006. Something along the lines of a Philly Classic, Cincy Classic, or MIdwest Gaming Classic. It's a real pain to have to try and buy/sell/trade limiting it to online when loads of us can trade a ton of games and have a nice number of booths in person. I think there were close to 50 booths (mostly table setups) for everyone, and I sm sure it costs less than $500 to rent out the whole room for the day.

I know some people would prefer this in the San Fran area, I think retailers would come to either San Fran or Los Angeles. I just think we need our own style of a "swap meet" again. CGE was great for neo-classic style games this year. The best I have ever seen. The Billy Galaxy booth was a great touch, they had a slew of stuff that you can't find in stores. Anyone have any ideas or want to try and get something together, post your thoughts here!

I've been talking with my buddy John about doing
our own show for years. I think we have what it takes
to make one hell of a show. Our location can't be
beat and we are seriously considering putting on
our own in 2006. I mean SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING.

RW, let's get together and discuss, no one wants to put on competing shows. I would be happy to attend yours and have a table there, and I think all of us would love it. When in 2006, and whereabouts ya thinking?

Did anything ever come out of this idea? With no CGE this year, I'm itching for some sort of "driveable" game collecting event.

I wish. We need to just rent out some local old school motel type place. They have a book fair each year here at a place like that, can;t cost more than $200 to rent it out..

Hopefully something happens, I can help out here in L.A. I would also try to get a booth to sell some of my extra stuff. I used to sell at the Shrine auditorium, at the Sci-Fi Expo but no one really wanted video games except for like two or three regulars.

donkeykong1: how much extra stuff do you have and exactly WHAT do you have? I am pretty intense on buying things all the time out here in Los Angeles.

I'd love a CGE-esque swap meet in the bay area. I've got too much stuff I want to get rid of and no time to put any of it on Ebay. CGE has been my yearly selling grounds.

I plan on having an arcade party at my new house this Sept/Oct. I'll have about 20 - 30 arcade games in my gameroom set on freeplay. I was planning on contacting SC3 (Southern California Classic Collectors) to set up some kind of a CGE style swap meet and have a bunch classic console and computers set up for people to play. I will have a HDTV to play what ever emu you wanted or play PS2 games. My wife and I will have it set up as a pot luck style so there will be plenty to eat.
Here is the site to SC3 http://www.classicgaming.com/sc3/
Here is my list of arcade games I have http://www.ggdb.com/Collectors/ViewMember.aspx?mid=394

I am open for suggestions to add anything else to the party. I have a nice big backyard for a lot people to attend.

shertz, how big is your place? Do you have enough room in the backyard or front yard for an all day swap session? SC3 does not seem like they have been around for awhile as of late......I am sure with enough planning, we can get a good amount of people to show...I still say a small rinky dink motel type place where people have those undergournd book fairs would be sufficient, but you already have the built in CLASSIC game selection! =D

My back yard is pretty decent size yard. I think between people in the gameroom (garage), the living room, and the backyard It can fit around 75 - 100 people. I worry a little about having enough tables and chairs for everyone to eat and do their trades. I can take pics of my yard the next time when I get a chance. I think I'll have the gathering Sept 30th. Let me know what you think.

Wel I have around 100 NES games that have been sitting for a few months, a couple NES systems, over 100 2600 games, a lot of Genesis games that need to be looked through and misc. systems and controllers that I can't remember. I also have a few Miracle Piano keyboards that are just sitting there. I also plan on geting rid of a Streetfighter 2 arcade that needs fixing.I've been wanting to sell this stuff online but don't have the time to list it all.
A swapmeet style booth would really help sell this stuff though I don't have any rare stuff in those piles.
Basically the sale would be good for selling the bigger items that can be a hassle to ship.

That sounds like a very fun idea. I would definetly be interested in attending. It would be nice to meet many other gamers from our area. I don't see many gamers online that are from around here. So far I've met two people from this site that are from around here. One of them was pitfallharry who had a hell of a collection that he was parting with.

Just out of curiousity, who did you talk to, Geoff or Christopher?

I spoke to Christopher and we have been going over the details about the gathering. Christopher along with other key SC3ers are going to stop by my place to plan things out. It sounds like its going to be a pretty good turn out. Will keep everyone posted.

Sounds like it will be cool then, we haven't had an SC3 meet in a couple years so it'll be great to have one again! :)

If something big happens in California later in the year that Billy Galaxy booth could make an appearance. Billy and I are going to Tokyo at the end of April. Tanaka & Yusako seemed interested in coming to a show this year but I know they are busy. They are opening a store in Tokyo in May and getting their website going (www.suteki.me.uk). Keep me in the loop please. LA or SF doesn't matter that much to me, 12 hour or 18 hour drive sucks either way.
