I have Zero Wing Mega Drive cart and it runs just fine in my U.S. Genny 2, without using a converter or anything. Does anybody know if a Herzog Zwei Mega Drive cart would work just as well?

Which MD versions are you talking about? Jp or Euro?
Japanese MD is NTSC, I believe all should work, except for the size difference. I only have a 3, Zero Wing, Dangerous Seed, & Hellfire, but all work fine, when plugged into an action replay, or game genie. They also play fine through my backup device.
The PAL MD stuff isn't suppose to work on US systems without an adapter of some sort, but I only have two right now, Micro Machines 1 & Micro Machines 2, and they both play fine without any adapters whatsoever. So I'm not sure what the vertict is about PAL stuff yet.
I've read thou that PAL MD stuff doesn't work on US systems without and adapter.

The Zero Wing cart is European Mega Drive. I guess if I buy one I'll find out!
Also, is Herzog Zwei easy to figure out without a manual? I'd rather get a complete one, of course, but you know how it is...

You'd be best off looking for a FAQ for Herzog. It's not quite "pick up and play."

Your Herzog Zwei Megadrive cart will work with no problems on your Genesis model 2. In fact the game will play exactly like the US version. I have both games myself and they play the same.

Thanks for the reply, Bighab. Just to clarify, I'm referring to the PAL Megadrive cart (not the JP NTSC version). I assume that's what you're talking about as well, right?

Well, you'll be happy to know that my website is nearly finished and ready to go public, and I do have an extensive Herzog Zwei strategy guide that teaches you everything you need to get started.
I should have my site ready to go in the next day or so, and I'll post a message about it so everybody knows.

Hmmm its a PAL version. It might work for you. Most early releases of Megadrive/Genesis games all had the same chipset insideOnly the outer case was different. The game would detect what system it was in and display the proper screen(Jpn/English settings,PAL/NTSC settings) The best way to find out is put it in and give it a try :) You won't hurt your system.

And...it works! It's alive! PAL Herzog Zwei is fully functional with U.S. Genesis model 2.
Case closed.
