View Full Version : Weekend Finds (August 27 - 28th)

Hey everybody,
I realize, that its not [i]quite[i/] the weekend yet. But I figured that getting this game was sufficient enough for me to start a "Weekend Finds" thread. Plus, I wasn't able to open my package until now (11:30) anyways, so, in my eyes, its a weekend find. ;).
http://videogamecollectors.com/albums/Jumpman/DonkeyKong.sized.jpg
I just added that picture to my Room of Doom pictures to go along with my other grails.
Now that I've got the 2 heavy hitters for the SNES library, the rest should be a piece of cake. :-P

this is the first time i open one of these, and im just curiouse, does anyone actually read them? i mean how many people read through this entire thread every week... and more importantly... WHY!?!?!?!

I read them maybe every other week.
And to answer the "why"...so I can hold out hope that, one day, I'll actually make an awesome find. Oh, and so I can be jealous of course.
I read em every week, can't really tell you why, I just find it interesting it's usually one of the first topics I click on when I check out the boards.
I check it out incase someone finds what I'm looking for, and they don't need it, and like money.

A better question my be, why not read these topics? Other than getting jealous, I can't think of another reason.
To me, these threads are fun to read. I like to see what other people are finding and getting in the wild. Although it is only natural to envy some peoples finds (*cough* Cauterize *cough*), it is still a fun read. It's also an added bonus when people include pictures.
I'll edit this post later this weekend with my finds (If I find anything...)

I love these threads, they are great fun, especially to see some of these games and accesories in photos. And when a UK guy says he found ROB the robot or something kinda rare at a bootsale, it gives me hope that I'll find something : D

I usually skim, looking for good stories... which Jumpman Jr. utterly failed to deliver. LOL

Exactly , Although it is hard not to get jealous at some of these finds.

I usually read them every time somebody new posts in it.
Even more so, when I see the Cauterize has posted. Because then I think; 'I wonder what he's got for us now.'
If you've ever been in a "Find" thread, you know what I mean.
Me and Hellvin went to Tuson just to see what we could find. I did pretty damn well I think.

LOL
Im flattered! (Seriously) :P but im not the one bringing in the best stuff if you ask me...
For example
Chaoticjellys Starwing Comp Cart!
Videogamerdaryll's usual haul
Daft Punk's $3 Virtual Boy
-hellvin-'s lot usually with records! (Cmosfm too for that matter :P)
jajaja's Rare Nes stuff!
Simply Dave's NES Top loader deal!
I could go on all day!
nik made a good point there actually, as the majority of my finds are resale/trade, out of my stuff last weekend, i think i kept about 10 games maybe if that!
And if it caused any confusion, im not rich or anywhere near that! Im only a 19 year old student living at home! Its more the cheapness of the finds...
To prove that, i bought Secret Of Mana (Cart only) this year for 50p (which im sure you saw!)
And that is why i dont buy much off eBay or so on, because i know everything will eventualy turn up at the car boot sale or so on at a decent price!
(Apart from SMS - Smurfs 2!!!) grrr!
Keep the finds coming! (And hopefully if the weather holds up, ill be posting tomorrow morning!)

Last week it was the 5 buck top loader at the local estate auction.
This week it was someone's entire collection!
Anyway, I won the lot. After tax this was all $81.37
Needless to say, I was estactic when I got home. :)
There was a lot of 2600 and Intellivision games in here that I did not have yet.

Lots of stuff
All that for £45?! Nice one!
I don't get paid until Friday but I should have £100 to spend by then. So hopefully I'll be able to get out to a boot sale, with any luck. :-P

I read it because it's fun to see what people are picking up.
I post because I hope someone out there envies what I found (it's happened a few times). Like someone said once, the thrill of the hunt is sometimes more exciting than actually playing the game itself...

Haven't done much rummaging this summer, and mornings like this make me think that I should have...
http://img382.imageshack.us/img382/548/rum8sv.jpg
N64 Wetrix, GBA Namco, GBC Arthur w/book $1 each.
Nuon Ballistic & Space Invaders $3 each. Found them mixed in with a bunch of DVDs...no player though :/ First time I've seen Nuon stuff in the wild.
Boxed complete (mint!) sports Genesis with a bunch of kids games in surprisingly good shape...almost all complete with manuals (except for Toejam of course) $20 for all.
And the first 3 seasons of Buffy on DVD...talked 'em down to $40 total for the set! Not bad for a little over an hour's running around.

I read through them every week. Actually these threads are one of my favorite kinds. I like seing how much stuff is still out there and available for Gamer X to find. Now here's my find today:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v654/AFGiant/Game%20Finds/2ef12211.jpg
I stopped at a garage sale to see a lady paying for a gameboy pocket and several games. Cursed bicycle doesn't get me to these things fast enough!
I asked the lady there if she had any other old videogames for sale, and she mentioned that someone (husband, brother, something like that) had a ton but didn't bring any. Well I found those two old boxed tv systems, and then the guy showed up! We mentioned game collecting, and it turns out he collects NES games and had something like 380 of them. To my surprise, he didn't know about digitpress so I pointed him in the right direction. Upon further questioning, I found out he's the guy that always beats me to thrift store finds because he has the guys call him first! Man, I don't know whether to be glad that I found another collector or discouraged that he gets my stuff first. I'll be willing to bet that he also cleaned out the rest of the garage sales today too, because the GCN case and the N64 mem card were all that I ended up with otherwise (oh, and the TMNT tape :) ).
Well, it wasn't a bad day for me with those two systems for $3 total (he said he had like 10 of them lol), and I wish good luck to my new found rival. Happy hunting!

Well at the same Goodwill that I found these great finds (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=781007#781007) yesterday I happened to come across a Sega Genesis model 2 with a Sega CD unit and 2 controllers. All for the low price of ...
$4.50
Then I went over to EB Games and picked up a complete copy of X-Com (r7) for Playstation. For about $7.50
8-) :D

Man, I wish my local goodwill would price their items like they did that Genny! Hell, I dont think I have ever bought a game when they actually knew the price and didn't have to check with a co-worker or manager to find out. Argh!
Anyways, back on topic. Picked up a NES Baseball Stars loose today from a pawn shop. Nice find for 2 bucks :)

I love these treads. My favorite topics on digitpress hands down.
Anyway, I done I little shopping today.
When to Video Game Exchange first bought:
Axelay
Thunder Spirts
Operation Logic Bomb
Drakken
About 22$ for all. Yeah I know I totally ripped myself off right there, but I don't get to go to that game store much and I hate not to buy anything.
Then went GoodWill, I didn't find any games their so while my mom was looking through to clothes I decided to look and see what was in the kids books, and found a book called: "Awesome Sega Genesis Secrets II" and has guides in it to 31 games(plus codes for more) Cool book for 50 cents.
Then went to a Big Lots, and store that my mom likes that I usually never find anything in. Today though I got this MegaMan playset thing for 8$. I'm going to set it in my room somewhere.
I what I really good day other than the fact I'm out of money, and a big flea market is in 2 weeks......
EDIT: 100th post, Yay!.

Today kicked so much ass, started out slow, but turned out to be awesome. Pics later, I'm at work and can't do it now.
First off, 2 R7 in the same place:
Word Feud for Colecovision - 1.00
Braindead 13 Longbox for PSX - 8.00 (no manual, but disks in near mint condition sans some small odd scuffing on disk 2)
The rest of the stuff:
Raiders Of The Lost Ark - 2600 - "Raiders Lost Ark" spine variation - 1.00
Bard's Tale - NES - 2.00
Barbie Super Model - Genesis - 2.00 (Complete)
Yu-Gi-Oh Capsule Monster Coliseaum - PS2 - 5.00
NCAA 2004 - PS2 - 2.00
Then I got a box full of Atari 7800/2600 games, mostly 7800, almost all of them are sealed and the rest are mint and complete - 33 games - 1.00 each
Today was awesome indeed

I love reading these threads probably more than anything else in the video gaming forum because I love seeing the amazing finds most of the members of this board come up with and the stories behind em. If it bothers you so much, then just ignore it.
Then I got a box full of Atari 7800/2600 games, mostly 7800, almost all of them are sealed and the rest are mint and complete - 33 games - 1.00 each
Awesome buy right there! I'm hoping some day I'll be able to amass a complete 7800 collection ;D.
Anyhow, here's today and yesterday for me:
First off I headed out to Tucson with my friend Nez so we could hit up the Bookman's stores out there. I just rearranged both my rooms, and I have made a ton of more space for my games, so I gathered a bunch of extra crap to trade in down there along. I found a few decent things, but I defenitely think he kicked my ass with what he found. Especially his randomly free Neutopia II.

Tucson Bookman's Stores
Genesis - GLoc (complete) - 5
Genesis - Outrun 2019 (complete) - 5
PC - Might & Magic VII (complete) - 8
PC - Zork Anthology (complete) - 5
Turbografx16 - King of Casino (complete) - 5
After the trip, I still had 63 bucks in credit for Bookman's, so I hit the one by me and in Mesa. I found some great stuff out in Mesa:
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y20/hellvin/t21.jpg
Desert Industries Thirft
PC - Loom (complete) - 4
Thrift Town
PC - King's Quest V (complete) - .99
Bookman's
NES - Rampart (complete) - 8
PC - Icewind Dale II (complete) - 8
PC - Baldur's Gate (complete) - 8
PC - Thief Gold (complete) - 8 sweeeeeet!
I was really happy with Thief Gold. It basically Thief I with several extra levels. There's also a lot of custom made levels on the net that require Thief Gold, so that should be fun to check out. All in all, I only spent 5 bucks for everything and still have 31 bucks worth of trade credit to last me a while ;D.

It appears that Polaroid has jumped in on the games in controllers bandwagon with their own version. Found it tonight at the local Wal-Mart amoung the satellite radio units. :hmm:
It was $13 and the package didn't show any screenshots but I was so curious on how bad it could be I couldn't resist. LOL

I would place the gameplay just below NES level. Here's a couple of screenshots from 2 of the games:
http://img240.imageshack.us/img240/2364/dcp01046jp.th.jpg (http://img240.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dcp01046jp.jpg)
http://img240.imageshack.us/img240/9315/dcp01055lj.th.jpg (http://img240.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dcp01055lj.jpg)
All of them are very simplistic. The game in the second screenshot doesn't have any bosses. I played it about fifteen minutes and the backgrounds and enemy spaceships all ran on a simple cycle.
