Just saw this article on Gamespot, thought it was interesting. http://money.cnn.com/2005/08/24/commentary/game_over/column_gaming/
Any thoughts, comments?

I think Kutaragi's statement did allow Microsoft to feel better about charging $400 for the true 360. It'll soften the blow of the PS3's price, but i don't think it'll make much difference since PS3 is still gonna be damn expensive. As stated in the article many expect it to cost $500 USD.
I don't think there's anyway Sony could under cut MS. At best the PS3 (sans HDD and probably several other features) will be the same as the premium 360. At least that's what the current info is telling us.
Basically the best I think the PS3 can do is make it's core system, match the 360 premium system. And to me that's not very appealing.
Right now it's anyone's guess if Sony has really suckered MS.

Remember, though, that the PS3 (and Revolution) will have WiFi built in, while it's another $100 for the Xbox360. True, not everyone will use WiFi, but for those who do it's something to consider.

That's a very good point and one i hadn't thought off. However i think MS charging $100 for a wireless adapter isn't going to hurt them much, because Wifi guys still have the option of running a cable. Now revolution fans without Wi-FI are the ones who are really gonna get burned.

It is pretty interesting what Sony is doing. Whether it is going to be outragous or not for a PS3 or if it was to trick MS to announce their prices to set Sony up for a good price range isn't known. But, for MS to tell the public pricing before Sony at least gets people into the idea of pricing for this next generation. Of course it's a bit more than previous but that's expected over time. I'd just like to see what Sony is doing in pricing and what the TRUE differences in game variety and performance is compaired to their respectable prices. Regardless though, I'll be getting an Xbox and PS2 after their releases because that's how I work. :p

Ya, I don't see anyway of the PS3 ducking below $400. With all those features and risky techonology (blu-ray), they'de be losing tons of money on each console sold. I think they might do what they did with the Dreamcast. Lower PSX price when DC hit, I'm expecting them to lower the PS2 price. I know they said they won't but I think they're just building up for a suprise when they do.

I can guarantee the PS3 will be at least £300 or $540 over here. It will probably be even be more, considering all the extra stuff compared to the £270 Xbox 360.
That's not very shocking when you see the PS2 was £300 on release.

Oh you know that Sony will do that. Current estimates place the US PS3 launch at Fall 06 and with MS stating that they have no intention of dropping the Xbox price i think i'd be crazy for Sony not to drop the price. Especially with titles like FFXII on the way.
