I'd like to get a nice WWII air war game, does anyone have recommendations? What games are there anyway? The only ones I can think of right now are:

Deadly Skies III (doesn't really count though ;)
Pacific Warriors II
Secret Weapons over Normandy

Also, what's the best simulation in that field on PC right now?

Without a doubt, IL-2 Sturmovik, IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles, and Pacific Fighters. All developed by 1C Copmpany and published by Ubisoft. There are expansion packs for all 3 games.

If you've got a console SECRET WEAPONS OVER NORMANDY is a blast. It got mostly positive reviews and I loved playing through all of the missions -- not realistic but addictive and fun, excellent production values and soundtrack, and plenty of tasks to do (and re-do once you've played it).

Definitely recommended!

IL-2 kicked much ass and it's just impossible to give that game enough love :)

IL2 is a few years old now, but still a goodie.

I still prefer my Ace Combats though.

What time period is Crimson Skies in?

1930's?

yea, like an alternate 1930s.

Loved the PC version but the Xbox one didn't do much for me. I think being forced into third person and flying with a pad just killed it...

Plenty of awesome memories of dogfighting my roommate all night long in that game...especially on the canyon stage with the giant bridge, we'd fly all over that mofo, chasing each other down. God, what a great game :(

There was a glut of WW2 fighters around 1999, during which quite a few quality games were released that should still hold up okay today. Lookout for European Air War, Jane's WW2 fighters, and MS combat sim.
Personally I found IL-2 really..... anal. I suppose Ace Combat ruined me like that :-P

I really liked Crimson Skies, it's one of my favorite Xbox games, but it doesn't really have any authentic planes in it ;) I just saw that Heroes of the Pacific will be released this autumn on Xbox, looks promising, I think I'll have to get it ^^ Screenshots: http://screenshots.teamxbox.com/gallery/942/Heroes-of-the-Pacific/p1/

I almost forgot, there's Iron Aces for the Dreamcast as well.

There's a review of it here (http://dreamcast.ign.com/objects/015/015834.html)
